@@VeloViosI’m still using my tascam 30 years on, this will save me some desk space and repair costs and I won’t have to convert cassette to digital… which… pretty much never happens
Functionally speaking it looks like it’s similar to an EHX 45000 or 96000 looper which lets you record and bounce and save projects, but I don’t see how you can create seamless synced loops with the 5 moons. It’s nice that it’s compact and all but I wonder if I’m just missing something here. Considering that the other loopers I mentioned also allow overdubs into the same tracks that really sets it apart as a production tool. Anyway, just some observations, I still love what you guys do and think it’s a great idea. I hope to see more music made because of it.
There is no screen, but it seems to me, it has non-latching buttons and LED lights to set each track to play or record mode. I am not sure if there is a non-visual clue to find out the status of a track. I am not sure if the default version is really accessible for blind people, however maybe someone at the Critter & Guitari company might take on the challenge to make some minor adaptions to make it usable for you.
The challenge would successfully create a product that i think this strives to be. Without a track/click sync I’ve struggled to even create and bounce down simple drum parts. Can’t deny the potential though, even as an extension wholly controlled by Organelle.
Things with screens suck. Knob per function!! Though I will have to colourfully paint and draw on these buttons so I know what they do without thinking.
Love The simplicity made by you as always, can I ask you please how to make good loops with a guitar for example if It requires pressing a button on the 5 Moon to start recording? Thanks a lot!
Hi, there's a label on the bottom of 5 Moons with a diagram that calls out the hardware functions. This label can be seen in the product images: www.critterandguitari.com/5-moons#images
I want this badly! Really really cool. I'm just worried about availability as usual. I hope you guys make a bunch of them so I can actually get one.....
Make a USB foot switch and midi support (for transport functions) to the USB 3.0 and I'm sold! Ohh and maybe the ability to daisy chain multiple units for 10 tracks :)
Very interesting! As someone who has a past recording with Tascam 4-track tape recorders back in the days this brings back memories. Will this one become available in the EU? (The microphone is also interesting, but not available here). I notice that the recording sample rate is 48KHz. The Organelle only accepts 44.1KHz samples. That means they are not directly compatible. Is there going to be an option to choose the recording sample rate of the 5-Moons?
I feel the same. Growing up on Tascam 4-tracks, I’ve missed the limitations of the medium ever since I abandoned it in the early 2000s for DAWs and limitless tracks. There’s just something very appealing to me about thinking in terms of 4 tracks. I miss this kind of bouncing. I’m buying one of these, in hopes of inspiration. Personally, all of my studio options have stifled actual creativity. I never signed on to be a computer tech. This wooden box might unlock something inside. Cheers.
Organelle might auto convert any incoming samples to its internal samplerate at input, the same way the Digitakt does with its automatic sampling+transfer Sample/Bit-rate conversion & stereo→dual-mono summing.
no quantizing, no screen, how awesome is that. but: is the length of the first track defining the others? that would be a bummer. still a beautiful idea!
this is beautiful, but missing the ability to pitch the song. like, an octave range of tape speed. i want to play it slow, record stuff and then speed it back up etc like a tape machine

The mono limitation is a feature (and you always have the option to export the 5 wavs in the end and create a stereo image of those). Remember: 5 mono tracks is already one more track than The Beatles had available for most of their albums. Now go and make a song! :)
