Had chickens for 19 years, been a breeder of rare varieties and heritage breeds. The Barred Rock likely has a leg injury, which takes a good long while to heal. Roosters can cause that if they get too amorous. You'd have to separate her for a bit, maybe in a dog cage, give her extra protein, like cooked hamburger and scrambled eggs, maybe some shaved liver on that other food (not too much, too much iron for avians) for a punch of B vitamins and maybe some drops of the baby liquid vitamin PolyViSol (WITHOUT IRON). Some injuries are not what they appear. I had an older Rhode Island Red "squat-walking" and it turned out that she had reproductive cancer and fluid or growths pressing on nerves (yes, we opened her up and did a layman's necropsy). Those crazy Easter Eggers like Sunny can make you nuts, LOL. They love to lay in weird places and can be flighty and just nutty birds. I have videos about leg injuries in chickens. One rooster had permanent tendon damage from a fall when he was young and the older hens were harassing him. He lived crippled for over 4 years, best guy ever, but did require daily help with keeping spurs and toenails cut. Treat your BR hen like it's a basic leg injury and check to be sure she isn't bloated in her belly, which can make them limp. ~Cynthia, N. Ga mountains
I wish you the best for your hen. Barred Rocks are my favorite homestead breed. I originally owned hatchery stock, but later began buying good quality breeder stock that don't seem to die from reproductive malfunctions like the common hatchery breeds did @@AcresOfAdventure I have hens who lived to 14 1/2, an Easter Egger and one true Ameraucana, both passed on this year. The daughter of a BR hatchery parents lived to 13 years old and I currently have a superb quality BR hen who is 12 (crippled from that arthritis I mentioned, sadly). They always laid as well as any Rhode Island Red, both hatchery and breeder quality. Again, I hope she recovers for you. ~Cynthia
We had to put a really ugly orange fencing at the top of our gate to prevent chickens jumping in this spring and it worked so I kept it up all summer. I hated it for just esthetic appeal reasons lol. We clipped the main chicken that was jumping/fluttering and it didnt help. Ill have to come up with something for next year. Ill be watching you for ideas!!
Since Snowflake's legs and feet look good I would guess it is a pulled muscle. Possibly from not landing well when she jumped the gate. If the others aren't pecking at her and she isn't one of the rooster's favorite girls then she should heal up fine. Mine got a pulled muscle from being wild when she was a bit younger. Unfortunately our hen was the rooster's top favorite girl and with his size, Brahma, she wasn't healing well so we put her in a dog crate inside the coop until she felt better. Pulled muscles, or any other soft tissue injury, take a while to heal. Good luck with her. Hope she heals quickly. Sunny is a little goof ball and so cute. Thanks for sharing, take care!
My dog recently got out and killed 6 of my flock of 11 granted doggies will be dogs. They free range and since then, we have fixed dogs fence. So I just picked up some new chicks a couple weeks ago but I like your ideas of getting an incubator. I’m in my first year of having chickens and my first girls will probably not start laying until Oct. Hats off to Sunny, she’s a free bird!
My chicken had the same issue as your barrod rock and I believe it's because I clip their wings and when she got off the roost that she must have sprained it.
awesome video and so far none of our hens have goten in and laid any eggs in the hengear box and ive put some in thhere and helt them taped the flaps up and even put beding and fake eggs in the box unless its because the entrance to get in is smller than the nest boxs we maade and have you all had any lay eggs in the hengear box was wandering
Awwe I hope your chicken goes well ❤️🩹 it does seem like she got a bit hurt. Yeah maybe giving her some rest and time might help 😊 btw I rlly like the new pfp and channel art. It's so cute 😊
@@AcresOfAdventure No cows are alot more work than chicken's. They need alot of grazing Land or hay. They rope off a section of land and put out 3 water tanks.
Hope snowflake will be ok with her leg, i think her leg was stuck in something then she forced to take her leg out, hope she'll be find bro,,love from indonesia
Oh, wow! I've only seen this 1 time. Chicken has this issue The only way to fix it is make it think your ending its life. But you cant bleed them because it worse. You need to grab a gun and shoot around her feet yell, Dance Chicken, Dance...! Also a separate coop helps if you want to do it the lazy way...psftt, I guess.... I still say use the gun method.....

Thanks I did think about separating her for a little to see if that would help
Sunny’s like, “dude I thought that produce was for me. I mean I did help make that garden didn’t I.”
This is true!
Check for bumble foot
It could be egg bound. Give it a nice warm bath with epsom salt
I did check and couldn’t tell but I will try the bath, she seems to be better now
🤣🤣🩷🌺happy funny chicken! You guys are so good to your animals. Keep up the great stewardship over your homestead!
Thank you!😬
You're so kind and caring towards your farm animals. I hope Snowflake gets better and your fence fix works out. Take Care.
Thank you🙏🏻

Sunny is a great chicken, always makes it interesting!
I love 🙄 how people who aren't walking in your shoes think they need to tell you what steps to take.
That’s okay it’s how TH-cam goes😁🙈
Epson salt warm baths help with a lot of chicken issues . I’ve used it a few times.
Thanks, I will try this if needed!

My God, you have the loudest cricket I have ever heard. And you can’t hardly find one in my yard. lol
They are so loud here 🙈
Fishing net helps a lot with catching chickens

We have them lay in ours but only like 2 of them do. I think the flock will do it more when we separate them and force them to use it

Never heard of that
Not to be critical, but that wasn’t a very good exam..
Turn her upside down and check her vent and bottom of her feet for bumble
Foot..
I checked her more it was just hard to film it all 🙈
Nice video
Thanks!
