Yep. I had thick gobs of tar in those tiny areas. Kept it nicely rust free for a change, but what a pain to clean out and prep for paint

I didn't roll the edge over like I mentioned, but got in there pretty good. It is painful access, that's for sure!

No kidding. Still going to rough them up a bit for better undercoating adhesion.

    Dirty work but oddly satisfying.

Lol, yes. You can definitely see a difference at the end of the night. I've got tyvek suits and a good respirator coming today.

Excellent detailed video Chris. I’m about to strip my 71 GT6 body. Luckily its on a rotisserie. Any advise about methodology beyond the mechanical method you used (ie chemical strip first?)

Thanks, Jonathan. I didn't do the chemical thing because I didn't want to deal with the cleanup from a disposal concern (I'm still sweeping up red dust all over the place). It would have made it easier, though, I think. Aircraft stripper is something I would look at (that's the generic name, I think) but I don't have any recommendations on a particular manufacturer. I did try some of the citrus stripper and it was okay, but you needed to reapply for each coat of paint. No matter what, make sure you understand how to neutralize / get rid of it. It will wreak havoc on your epoxy primer if you don't get it all. I'd recommend SPI's forum (where I got my paint) to see if you can find recommendations (sure you can). www.spiuserforum.com/index.php

Chris Fisher Thanks for your quick reply. I’m wary of starting the stripping operation so I will do the research at SPI before I start. Many thanks for your advice. PS. You have a fantastic TH-cam resource for guys like me. Well done.

Shame on you! I thought I had a buddy, who doesn't sleep either. Looks like I am the only one. I wasn't first by the way.
