It was truly the _King of Jazz_ soundtrack that made me an ardent admirer of the Whiteman orch. As I recall, prior to catching that early foray into Technicolor on cable decades ago, I'd heard maybe only a couple of sides from the band, which at the time didn't arouse much interest. The film's score is of course splendid, but it was the manner in which the band performed the songs that really impressed me. The highlight here for me is of course the great Eddie Lang's accompaniment to the vocal, but too, the trombones against trumpets in the final chorus is a knockout feature.
