I’ve been working on appliances for going on 20 years now, this is by far the dumbest design by any manufacturer. Thanks for the great video, you guys do great work!
This is great, but 8 years old. For the newer doors, you don't take off the hinge, you just take out the inner screw, disconnecting it from the door. Then take out the 2 screws on each side of the door and the door should then come apart, as he shows. I broke my first control cover (it doesn't click on as easy as shown, due to the buttons). The clips are VERY cheap plastic and break easily. GE was kind enough to send me a replacement cover. This time, I took the extra step of unscrewing the plastic box holding the buttons up to the template and lowered it a bit, so I could cleanly click the cover on, without having to work around the buttons. Then screwed button box back in and everything worked great.
What a pain in the neck. I really don't want to have to take the dishwasher out of the cabinet to replace this stupid plastic panel. Why do they design these things so poorly?
Easy way for GE to make more money with folks having to purchase more console/graphic display covers!! At $20-$35 a pop (or more), and considering how many consumers have had to replace them, GE is making a small fortune on those piece of crap covers alone. Next dishwasher will NOT be a GE.
@@teresaprice5855 ANY appliance I have to replace will NOT be GE, nor Samsung. Both IMHO are junk. Have a GE fridge, the handle keeps popping off. Have a GE microwave; handle broke and they wanted something like $105 for a replacement. I'm now of the opinion GE makes more money on replacement parts than on the original purpose. So, the appliances themselves are loss-leaders because they know people will continue purchasing replacement parts for the "life" of the unit.
You don't have to pull the dishwasher out to remove the door. Pull the door off of the dishwasher with the cables still attached to the hinges. Make sure you maintain tension on the spring cables. If you allow the cables to go slack, you risk having the springs coming off the chassis or the cables separating from the spring . So when you get the door off, keep pulling on it to maintain tension on the springs as you lay the door flat on the floor. Now for the tricky part. You need to maintain tension on the spring cables before disconnecting the cables from the hinges. I do this using 2 vice grip pliers. Clamp a vice grip onto the spring cable , where the cable exits the chassis. Put some electrical tape on the cable to protect it from the teeth of the vice grips. Do that for both cables. This will now keep tension on the cables when you unhook the cables from the hinges. When reinstalling the door , remove the vice grips lastly. After you have set the door back in place. You can use clamps in place of vice grips . The smaller the pliers/clamps the better.
Warning!! The bezel does not simply snap into place (as shown in this video). In fact, if you watch very closely, you will observe the bezel installation is incomplete at 4:38 or so. On my model DDT595, I removed the grey control button assembly - completely detaching it from the door. There is an outer "shroud", which extends from extreme left to extreme right of the door, and the "block of buttons" that slips into the shroud. Once the button block is removed from the shroud, the bezel can be easily installed and the "tab hooks" of the bezel can easily be seen mating into place - with no damage at all to the bezel or the tab hooks. Re-assembly is easy (just keep track of which screws go into which holes). Entire operation described here required about 10 minutes to complete, with 1/4" nut driver.
Just to be a little more clear the button block and LED must NOT be connected to the long grey "shroud". It must be bare with no electronics at all before snapping on the cover. I followed the instructions before and didn't realize the electronics would come loose. (Unscrewed but snug) I installed the cover and almost snapped all the clips. Hope this helps.
Thank you! You saved my butt on this one. The video is VERY misleading when comes to snapping on the cover plate. Folks, do it their way and you're going to ruin the part you just paid to replace.
Thank you! You are 100% correct - you must remove the button block and bezel completely or you will not be able to line up the plastic tabs or they will break off! I ended up breaking three tabs before I saw your comment.
GE should be ashamed of themselves. This is the most poorly-designed POS I've ever encountered. The fact that they require you to disassemble the entire door and even THEN you probably won't get the brittle plastic tabs to fit is ludicrous. The product engineer who designed this deserves to be assigned to follow these instructions until he can get it right. After 3 hours I sure couldn't. And that was after removing the control panel screws to drop it out of the way. Couldn't get the buttons to line up, nor all the tabs to pop into place. Do yourself a favor and just glue the old one back on. It'll save you a lot of time and frustration.
We have tried to glue it several times, without any luck. We even bought the extended warranty, and when it first happened in the beginning, and the man came out, they wouldn't cover it, saying it was only cosmetic! The dishwasher is still running after 5 years, but the silver part is a third of the way off. It looks horrible and is difficult to close.
Thanks for the video - it was helpful. Agree with others that you have to take the button control off in order to properly align the new panel. Good news, I didn’t have to pull the dishwasher out as I was able to unhook the hinges with the bottom panel removed.
For search reference, mine is GE Dishwasher model PDT750SSF7SS GE Part WD34X24296 (Replaces part WD34X21657) I second what many have said. The tabs on this are very delicate and likely to break. Removing the grey button assembly, which this part snaps into, is probably the only correct way of doing this. Thankful for the video but this was definitely an omission.

I just completed this job and appreciate the tip from Clint Satterwhite. The video does a great job of guiding one through the repair but it really isn't as easy as snapping the cover into place as it shows. Removing the control panel assembly first made it simple.
About 4:30 into the video, it is not mentioned that the buttons should be removed before trying to install the panel. I tried nearly an hour to install the panel and broke some of the tabs. I had to buy another panel and had to call GE to have someone install it for me. This omission cost me over $300.
Repair is missing a key step depending on your make and model. For my GE Dishwasher: GDT680SGH7BB , I had an additional step to remove the top control button module out of the way (4 screws). With the buttons out of the way it's very easy to snap on the control cover. If you don't do this step you will for sure break or bend the tabs. Video needs to be updated.
Thanks for the video. Helped me get this job done in a hour tops. Actually wasn't as bad as I thought. I had enough extension on my electrical to just pull it out 10 inches without the extra hassle. Put a little glue on the ends to keep my kids from breaking it again....time will tell
Dear repair clinic, while your videos have saved us many times and we appreciate you, it is now obvious that your video instructions are incomplete. Too late for me, broke several tabs, please pin your comment about removing the button panel to the video. We count on you to provide complete, accurate directions.

I doubt that I'll ever buy a GE appliance again. Cheap but expensive plastic junk. I snagged the chrome trim on our dishwasher and it broke. IMHO it should not be snaggable. But then to replace it I have to buy the entire cover. For $103 including taxes, handling and postage. The handle on our GE microwave broke! They want $150.80 for a cheap plastic replacement. No, thank you. I've fixed it, hopefully, with epoxy cement and threaded rods. If it breaks again I'll just epoxy it to the door. My parents never thought much of GE. Now I know why.
I ruined the first control cover trying to get it in place, I broke most of the tabs by forcing it over the control buttons. On my second go around I undid all the hex screws holding the dark gray plastic assembly to the metal door. Procedure shown in the video is WRONG! ABSOLUTELY follow the comments below and REMOVE THE CONTROL BUTTON ASSEMBLY before even THINKING about snapping the bezel into place. I tried it and broke FOUR of the tabs. They are VERY fragile! My model is slightly different (GTD655SMJOES) but the bezel installation is identical. It's just that my door comes apart a bit differently. Once I removed the control button assembly the installation went perfectly. The tabs that broke on my bezel were at the right end of the bezel. I finessed a piece of high strength 3M double sided tape into that area to secure the end of the bezel and it worked out fine.
@@MsRoJo88 If you're doing what I did which was replace the control panel cover it's pretty simple. Of course, you have to take the door off, remove the front panel (well, slide it down) then put the control panel cover in place then reverse the work. My son helped and it took about 35-45 minutes once I took it apart.
I have a slightly different control cover bezel (Part #WD34X20210), but everything appears identical to this video except mine has one extra control button. For my case, I’ll second Clint Satterwhite’s advice that you definitely want to take the extra simple step of removing the button assembly (4 screws) before trying to align and snap on the control cover. Not doing so risks breaking the fragile plastic tabs that retain the cover. (If you could just snap it on/off, then why would you have to do _any_ of the disassembly in the video?) Otherwise it’s a very helpful video --- thanks RepairClinic! One other note: After turning off the breaker and removing the kickplate, I used a needlenose pliers from the front to disengage the white spring cables from the lower door hooks without otherwise disconnecting or moving the dishwasher (I skipped 0:55 to 3:07 in the video). But when I went to reinstall the door, the other ends of the white cables had fallen off the springs further behind, so I ended up having to pull the unit forward anyway to reattach them.
Exactly this. Remove the four 1/4” bolts holding the buttons in place, slide them down a little bit, THEN slide the control panel cover on. Had the pleasure of breaking the tabs off my new cover before I figured it out. 🙄 Having to order two is still cheaper than having a technician come out though!
Do yourself a favor and just glue the console back on. After following this video and going the extra step to remove the buttons (as other comments recommended) it still popped back off. I had to apply gorilla glue to make sure it stayed on as I screwed the LED buttons back on. Do yourself a favor and just gorilla glue from the start. Don’t buy the replacement console just because the clips broke off. It was a huge struggle just to end up glueing it on in the end.
Thank you for this! I was struggling with how to remove the front panel to replace a broken top latch and this was immensely helpful! We were able to quickly do the job, thank you!
If you try to install your cover panel on a GE PTD750SSF5SS you will break all the tabs off your brand new $75 panel cover. Follow these directions at your own risk. Good video, everything looked exactly like mine, but the way the cover attaches must be different.
So if the panel still works, and the unit functions properly, but the cover with the button labels has broken off, is all if this still necessary? Or is there a simpler fix for just replacing the thin outer display cover?
Well, I suppose I wish I had seen this. A note in the part to let us know how difficult this is would have been welcome. I ended up tear off all the plastic tabs, and then used gutter screws and super-glue to get it in place. That could have penetrated some wiring - so I'm not recommending it - but it should get us through the final 3/4/5 years of dishwasher life :)
Disclaimer-unless the dishwasher is brand new, this will not be nearly as smooth. Took me almost 3 hours and significant elbow grease, and I still ended up breaking a couple of the tabs while installing the new panel cover. The GE engineers who made this so difficult to replace should feel strong shame and embarrassment 😅
Appreciate the thorough video, but shame on GE for such a complicated procedure and for charging so much for a sheet of plastic. I'll be using the glue method mentioned by many until a major repair encourages me to just replace this disappointing unit. Already replaced pump and some other part for $500. Matching fridge has had few problems as well and the required water filters for that fridge are robbery. Probably done with GE.
How do you know if the control panel is the issue? Mine isnt turning on, but i checked the cords and its getting power. (Won't turn on!) Is there a fuse somewhere? I had a power surge and it went out. I have the adora ddt575smf2es model.
You need to redo this video and show that you cannot slide the bezel in place with the dark grey button assembly in place. All of the tabs will bend and break. Poor instruction - hopefully anyone watching this video reads the comments too and doesn't make the same mistake as me. I get to buy two bezels now, which are way overpriced...
My dishwasher controller board bottom of dishwasher solid green. But top panel completely dead. No power. GDT655SSJOSS model. Does this mean dead top panel circuit? Can you let me know correct part.
Watched the video and have removed this door before with little effort, there is a hole in the hinge that will line up with the frame on a 45 degree angle that can lock the hinge in position, remove the two 1/4 inch screws at the bottomof the door hinge, not tilt the door back to a straight up vertical position and the door will lift up and off the hinges. I should have read the comments before attempting to follow this video and ended up breaking a couple tabs. Take the extra 5min to completely remove the control panel from the bottom and save yourself the frustration.
Unfortunately, I did not read the comments first and broke the snaps. They did not break off completely, they just bent over. I found that I could repair the snaps without having to buy a new bezel. I gently bent them back in place and used some 4000 lb JB Epoxy weld and put a small amount on the top of the snaps. It made the snaps incredibly more stronger than the cheap ones that tend to break. I would even suggest that prior to installing a new bezel, use the epoxy which will improve the strength of the snaps. You may even be able to repair the old bezel by doing this and save a lot of money buying a new overpriced one.
4:20 see that vent piece there in the top left? Yeah, that's SCREWED onto the other side of the door he just _broke_ off. There's no way to get to these screws without breaking the door. Great job. 👍🏽
The cover snagged on my foot and pulled off and now i come to see i have to completely take my dishwasher apart to slide a fucking cover on? this is nuts.
You really should redo this video to correctly show that the control module needs to be removed before 'snapping' the replacement bezel in place. I, like many of the commenters below, destroyed the new replacement part while following your tutorial. I should've read the comments before performing this task and would've been forewarned. I already roasted GE on their sight when asked for feedback, telling them their design sucks.
At 4:38, he slides the cover into the slots and 'voila'. I don;t understand why we should uninstall and disassemble the entire door?! Is this for real?
!!!!Read jimbalio's comment and others!!! If you try to replace the cover plate like in the video, YOU WILL BREAK the shit out of the tabs! It's not that hard once you have the door off. Eights screws out, separate the buttons from the inner plate, snap on the outer plate to the inner plate, buttons back in, eight screws back in, resume with the video.
This repair video is highly misleading and should be redone showing the extra steps that are involved. The control cover does NOT simply snap on as shown at 4:38. RepairClinic has fudged it to look like that's what is happening but you can in fact see the buttons are not flush with the cover panel as they should be. In reality the control panel is a very fragile piece with small plastic tabs that break off easily. There is no way to get it on securely as shown here. In reality you must take out the button assembly and the jacket that surrounds it, completely. You can then snap the control panel on safely and put it all back together. Keep track of which screw goes where as there are a few different lengths. They all use a 1/4" socket.
@@bjbelanger5236 I can't believe this video is still up! Repair Clinic should replace your broken part for free. I no longer trust them since this bogus video.
Snapping in the bezel as shown, as noted several places in the comments, is impossible without breaking off the tabs. You need to remove the control board assembly to correctly install it. Unless the purpose of this video is to sell more bezels, it should be redone from an unprepared door. Then you can even show that the vent needs to be unscrewed to separate the door. Honestly, one of the poorest instructional videos I have ever watched.
I accidently kicked mine off the door (don't ask) resulting in broken tabs. I tried to repair it by using liquid nails at various points. Absolutely could NOT get a tight seal. Fail. Proceeded to buy a new one for around $90 and YES.... all the effen tabs broke off when I attempted to install the mutha! Any other suggestions?
I will say, this was a helpful video until you get to the install of the panel. There are four screws for the button assembly that you need to take out in order for the buttons to recede and you can install the panel.
To summarize the comments: - Very dumb design by GE to necessitate removal of the entire door assembly to replace the control cover that has an inherent flaw of very fragile plastic tabs as securement - The video is very good EXCEPT must remove the button assembly in order get the cover flush with the case in order to slide it over - Even following these instructions the plastic tabs on the replacement cover may still snap because of their fragility - May be easier to simply break the tabs and then super glue to cover to the case - Again, gotta emphasize how dumb of a design this is.
This door must have been allready rigged up so it would separate easy, this is the absolute worst model to work on, out of the hundreds I've done, the door panel never separates that easy or go back that easy, and let's not get into changing touchpad control panel that all the personality instructions are wrong for your model, and that's not a good thing being how difficult these door panels are to separate, problem is ge has to many models that utilize the same boards and just change personality
If you don't know how to install the cover the correct way...DO NOT post a video to mislead others. As others mentioned. You need to remove the user interface module before installing the cover. Your way will result in all tabs broken. Please do the right thing & delete this video

One other note: After turning off the breaker and removing the kickplate, I used a needlenose pliers from the front to disengage the white spring cables from the lower door hooks without otherwise disconnecting or moving the dishwasher (I skipped 0:55 to 3:07 in the video). But when I went to reinstall the door, the other ends of the white cables had fallen off the springs further behind, so I ended up having to pull the unit forward anyway to reattach them.
appreciate you sharing this video. I had the exact problem you encountered. Thanks!!!
Yeah, I am still very confused as to why I can't just snap the plastic control panel cover on top, without having to do any of the disassembly.
Thank you for sharing this information. This is why I buy my parts from you. Great all around service!
This is batshit fucking insane
Disclaimer-unless the dishwasher is brand new, this will not be nearly as smooth. Took me almost 3 hours and significant elbow grease, and I still ended up breaking a couple of the tabs while installing the new panel cover. The GE engineers who made this so difficult to replace should feel strong shame and embarrassment 😅
I'm about to replace mine. Any advice?
Are all GDT580 control covers interchangable?
My dishwasher is just gonna not have a cover... this is way too much to do to replace a cosmetic cover lol. Screw this.
not only that but $200 for cheap plastic cover?!
@@roach01gt GE sent mine for free.
Can't fathom why I need to take the whole dishwasher apart, though.
Thanks!! You saved me $90!!
I appreciate you sharing this video. I had the exact problem you encountered. Thanks!!!
So glad I read your comments, EJ. What a nightmare of a design
@@peartfan2112 Have you ever worked on Ford or GM cars?
didn't have that problem idk, worked perfectly for me
This video + the comments were so helpful!
Do yourself a favor - READ THE COMMENTS before you attempt the repair!
I simply want to remove the door to clean the inside of dishwasher. Is all this need simly to lay the whole door on the floor?
My dishwasher controller board bottom of dishwasher solid green. But top panel completely dead. No power. GDT655SSJOSS model. Does this mean dead top panel circuit? Can you let me know correct part.
Watched the video and have removed this door before with little effort, there is a hole in the hinge that will line up with the frame on a 45 degree angle that can lock the hinge in position, remove the two 1/4 inch screws at the bottomof the door hinge, not tilt the door back to a straight up vertical position and the door will lift up and off the hinges. John
appreciate you sharing this video. I had the exact problem you encountered. Thanks!!!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your support.
We are always happy to help. If you would like to give us a review on Google, we would much appreciate it: g.page/r/CcVUrahZNozMEBM/review
We hope that you have a great day!
Yeah idk about all that. I snapped the bottom tabs off the new plate cover with some pliers and the thing fit in with just the top tabs. Cool? Cool.
Remove the capacitor right next to the connector on the UI board. 220mf 25v.
YES remove it , replacing the bad cap does not fix the issue. For all of those who have a dead UI board try this. It's a smoothing capacitor I'm assuming. No harm removing it at your own risk. For some reason this solved a completely dead board. This dishwasher will still randomly come on but I can live with it. Below is a list of revisions for the board replacement GDF530PGM0CC

WD21X26182 (AP6985297) updated
WD21X31909 new updated

FUCKING CHRIST, ALL THIS TO REPLACE A FUCKING PLASTIC CONSOLE COVER? THIS IS MADNESS.
Great job. 👍🏽
You gotta be kidding me… take out the entire appliance and disassemble the door. Good video of a ridiculously, needlessly complex process
This is crazy, pulling out the washer and disassembling the door just to fix the bezel?
READ THE COMMENTS BEFORE BUYING THE PART!!
Test the wires before touching!
At 4:38, he slides the cover into the slots and 'voila'. I don;t understand why we should uninstall and disassemble the entire door?! Is this for real?
Plastic tabs just break off glued the old cover back on
So $90 and 30-60 minutes of work to replace a piece of plastic that breaks off if you look at it wrong. Top notch, GE 🙄
LG should make this panels with aluminum or metal materials to avoid wasting $ for companies that buy their products..
For a control cover so difficult to install, why is it a whole lot easier to pull it up? Why?
Design flaw
I wish I read your comment before I broke the new one following the video instructions..
I broken the tabs on4 panels
th-cam.com/video/ytUvQ2dANL8/w-d-xo.html
This video gets it right... like everyone says below, it doesn't just "snap in".
This shows nothing about programming board, requires jumping pins (no pins on board) I had to solder across
Well. This video helped but the tabs are so bad, I’m just using superglue this time.
Don't superglue. You never know when you need to get back in there.
Bought a new damned console cover only to have all the effen tabs break off when I attempted to install the mutha!!!
This cover just Snaps on with no scerws holding it on? Wow, cheaply made Haier/GE See comment BELOW VIDEO is WRONG Repair clinic!! December 2020
To summarize the comments:
- Very dumb design by GE to necessitate removal of the entire door assembly to replace the control cover that has an inherent flaw of very fragile plastic tabs as securement
- The video is very good EXCEPT must remove the button assembly in order get the cover flush with the case in order to slide it over
- Even following these instructions the plastic tabs on the replacement cover may still snap because of their fragility
- May be easier to simply break the tabs and then super glue to cover to the case
- Again, gotta emphasize how dumb of a design this is.
Terrible job for minor repair. Need more explanation on HOW to get panel. It’s not as simple as video describes.
Instead of taking the whole thing apart why not just open the door?
That piece does NOT just pop in like that. Wtf
Just remember folks - “G” and “E” are the first and last letter of the word GARBAGE.
GE sucks for this procedure and the price of the plastic piece. Not to mention the propensity of it to break. Nice video tho.
Supper flimsy. Does not simply engage at front and click in place. The tiny tabs simply break off as the original one did. Guy in video shows it snapping in with one hand. I’m pretty handy and these insides not work. 50 bucks for part down the drain.
Step 1 break off plastic tabs
Step 2 glue the cover down
Step 3 unfollow this you tube channel
Step 4 go do something else
Bullshit!
It’s not that easy as shown 😂
