i have a brother with autism and i agree, it has made me more compassionate. i sometimes wonder what it would be like if i didn't have a brother with a disability - i might be an intolerant person if i didn't have him. but it is a struggle too constantly having to defend him or try to make him understand how people see him. it's difficult. do you yourself have plans for mason when he gets older? i find myself worrying about this often with my brother.

I am glad that you think the same way that I do I hope that you don't yell at him at all! People that are disabled might be emotional

I have a special needs brother too. It is probably one of the hardest things ever but there are good parts too. I worry about the future A LOT. I'm about to go to college and I'm trying to adjust to having my own life without leaving him behind. And from the financial aspect, I really don't want to take out loans because when I become my brother's caretaker, I have to be financially able to do that. It's so many variables put together.

I have a little sister with autism, she has taught me so much. Even watching the way she acts and how she handles little things in daily life, she has made me more compassionate too, you are also relatable to me as patience, its harder. My sister has autism so she looks the same as anyone else, so if she gets upset in public, as she looks ordinary people just see her as a spoilt brat, but really its a disability :( but shes perfect xxx so are you and Mason xxxxx Love3

I have grown up with an older brother (he is nearly 2 years older than me) who is also special, you have basically summed up everything that I think and feel as well growing up, I am more accepting of people and don't judge people on how they look and I also seem to gravitate towards people with special needs when I was in school, when we was growing up we did have our fights but what brother and sister haven't had a squabble growing up, I am proud of my brother, I taught my brother to ride a trike when I was 3 and he was 5 and taught my brother to walk even though I am younger than my brother he wasn't walking when I started walking (I started walking at less than 8 months old and my brother was nearly 3 he started walking around 3 not long after me) and my mum told me that I helped my brother to crawl at first and then to walk, I am now disabled due to brain injuries but me and my brother still treat each other the same way, we still squabble and personally don't think that will change but it doesn't change the fact that I love my big brother and wouldn't change him for the world, it's amazing what you are doing on your channel, I came by your channel just by chance as this video was a suggestion at the side when I was watching a video on someone else's channel, keep up the great work and look forward to watching your older videos as well as new videos as well, take care Gwenny and Mason.

I LOVED this! I have an 18 year old brother who has down symdrome as well and this is exactly how I feel and what I tell people about having a brother with special needs. He is so caring and loving, he's the love of my life! He has taught me so much, I always say that all the good features in my personality have been developed thanks to growing up with him. He humbles me. You might understand that they are very loving, my brother in particular is so funny, he cracks me up every time we are together. He has so much personality, and by the way I have 2 other brothers, I'm the only girl as well. I have dealt with bullying and rejection, sadly, which really saddens me, but I've learned from it as well and I couldn't be any more blessed and greatful about having him as my brother. Thanks for making all this videos, I just discovered your channel and I'm loving it. May God bless you and your family.

I have mild autism and cerebra palsy and I know the importance of accepting others and being accepted, one can't work without the other. Gwenny, I admire You for the values You have in Your life and Your brother Mason, What a remarkable young man. He's got the same name as My little nephew. Have them together in a house hold, if Mason is called both come running, lol, anyway, I believe God has a great plan in store for both You and Your Bro.

youre a good sister having a disability doesn't change anything. Im disabled myself and im involved in the special Olympics and ive been told I brighten peoples day. I want to be a childrens special needs counselor. I wouldn't wanna change my life at all because I am who I am and nobody can tell me different. I may be different but I am still a person.

I am 16 and I have an 11 yr old brother with autism and aspergers. He is very smart (as well as other children/adults with disabilities) very high functioning. And as all children/adults with disabilities he does have his moment and he does have that one thing that sets him part from ""normal"" ppl. But he doesn't let that get to him. To him he's the "normal" one. And he does pretty well. And I'm so proud and happy to have a brother like him.

I have an older brother with autism and work with younger autistic kids at camp every summer. I love all the kids and my brother. he has taught me to never judge anyone because you don't know what's going on for them, and also taught me to not care what others think if they are judging us in public, because my brother looks normal but acts a bit different, so people state at us, but I've learned to ignore it and I love my brother!

I know how it's like because my little sister is a year younger and also has down syndrome and people say mean things about her and all my friends tell me what they hear so that I can take care of it or so they can. It is really great to have her as a sibling because she is so sweet, intelligent, and she really has a great sense of humor and that just shows that you can have a disability but it doesn't make you a bad person. Really having my sister in my life has probably been the best thing to ever happen to me.

I work with people who have disabilities and it's fantastic that you are happy to speak about your brother with confidence because that's all they need is someone to love and respect them enough to feel confident about having them in your life.
I see it every day when I go to work, people staring at my clients and I cannot help but get so hot under the collar because they're just like everyone else but they have manners unlike the general public!
Thanks again for sharing your brother with us.
    Bless you and your family.

Three of my friends are mentally disabled. I love them all, I met most of them in elementary school and we've been friends since. They have taught me so much and they've actually helped me with my bipolar. We help each other really. And starting out having a friend with a disability in elementary was a very good thing, because growing up with them in my life has helped me to appreciate the little things in life, they have opened my eyes up to so many things and taught me different, amazing ways to look at this world and the many people in it. They have taught me compassion and patience, something that I have yet to learn from my therapist or that my pills for bipolar have helped. And now, hearing your story and seeing all of these people down here, it makes my hear swell with pride that there are amazing people out there that are willing to help and befriend anyone with a disability. So thank you all for bringing back hope to humanity and showing the world that being different, whether it be a disability or just yourself, is perfectly acceptable.

I have a little sister with cerebral palsy and I love her. She can't walk or talk but she will randomly start laughing so much and it's so adorable. My room is on the third floor and I have to walk through her room and sometimes at night or even sometimes I get woken up in the morning to the sound of her laughing. Like you said I feel like I'm a better person because of her. Your brother can function on his own but my sister is like a new born so sometimes I do wish she didn't have cerebral palsy so she could live a normal life and experience the things that anyone else would. It makes me mad when people say oh it's so sad bc she doesn't know what's going on around her and everything must be confusing. My dad and step mom will say "sissys here" and she will look around the room to find me. Or I will be sitting in the chair and they will say where's sissy and she will look to where I am. Someone will make a joke or make a noise and she will start laughing. She does two different things with her mouth when she is either hungry or thirsty. I feel like she's normal on the inside but her soul is stuck in this little body that won't let her communicate.

I grew up in a filipino orphanage back in the philippines ,where half the kids there had disabilities and the rest like myself was not. They teached us sign language to communicate with the deaf ones and so on.
I learned from growing some part of my life there with them. That even if someone has a disability and might be a slightes different then others. They still the same as us. Sharing same heart, the human soul etc. I learned as u did to ur brother. Not to juge people easily.
As i grew up. I told my friends that i wouldnt mind date a person with a disability if that happened. They told me i was insane for doing that.
Now i been dating my boyfriend for a half year which has aspergers within Autism. It learned me to try be patience with his way of speaking and the way he thinks. Theres alot of misunderstanding between us since he arent so good with words or at times look me straight at my eyes. He has also his typical stereotypical hands moves they usually known for within autism.
but it works pretty well and im proud that trough our relationship. He improved himself much more and we both decided to share a future together and rest of our life together. Theres no doub about it.

This video means so much to me! My brother had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and he passed away 3 years ago, he was 22. I am very much into science and getting 2 degrees one in biology and one in med tech and planning on going into medical research because of him. He made me who I am today and I would go through it all over again. I am more accepting, patient and compassionate as well. Having a brother with a disability was a blessing to my family and I in so many ways. Even though Louis is gone, I feel he still lives in me and everything he has taught me stays with me

I help kids with disabilites at my temple prepare for their bar mitzvahs, volunteer at vista del mar, volunteer at friendship circle of los angeles, and once a week play games with the autistic kids at my school. Working with kids with disabilities is an amazing experience. You and your brother are truly amazing.

I can completely agree! Kids with disabilities change your life. My brother is Autistic, and we have 13 years apart from each other, and I am extremely good with disabled people now, because of him. I am a junior, and all the kids I my school that are disabled, are bullied horribly, and I put a stop to it when I can. I go down to the lunch room on my spare periods and have lunch with them and talk to them, and walk with them in the halls, they are all so sweet! You cannot every judge someone who looks different. You don't know their story! One boy was raped and held under water, and almost died, and just because he has a deformity, and is "slow" doesn't mean anything, you don't know why, so don't judge! :-) I love how awesome you are with your brother. It reminds me that I am not alone, and we will influence more people to be a little more kind! Keep being an incredible person! You inspire so many!

I totally agree with you on saying that having someone with a disability in your family teaches you patience and it definitely teaches you so much more! I couldn't think about a life without my brother, who is disabled. He has autism and the so-called Savant syndrome which means that his abilities are far in excess of what we would call normal. He's extremely good at maths and technology and this makes me so proud!
The only sad thing about this is that he can't talk, that's why he uses a computer where he can type in with symbols what he wants to say.

My younger brother has down syndrome. And it definitely changed me. I was the only child for 12 years, and after he was born everything changed. I love him to bits and I don't know what I would do if it weren't for him to put a smile on my face. He is currently 4 but obviously looks 3. He is amazing and thank you for showing me again how great our siblings are.

I just wanted to say, I really appreciate that you're sharing your experiences with your brother with the rest of the world :) I have an older brother with Down Syndrome as well. He's just a year older than me (I'm 23 and he's 24), so we did everything together growing up. At one point I was his translator for my parents because I could understand the things he said and they couldn't, haha. I agree with a lot of the things you said in the video - I feel like my brother has made me a much better person as well, and I couldn't imagine life without him or any other way :) You are such a sweet sister; I watched a few of your other videos and I love that you include him and you want to study speech pathology. I just graduated from college and although I didn't study anything related to special needs, it's something super important to me and one of those things that will just be a constant in my life. It's hard to explain just how much we love/respect/look up to our brothers, but I think you did a pretty good job in this video! Kudos to you and I hope the best for you and Mason!
P.S.: My brother also loves singing and dancing - I have a feeling he and Mason would get along!

I work with a girl with down syndrome and she is super funny and kind. Working with them at school has made me want to be a special needs teacher. So next school year I Will being going to college for that. People with disability can really make a difference in people's lives. They are the best.

My little brother is 9 and he has ADHD. ADHD generally have problems paying attention or concentrating. They can't seem to follow directions and are easily bored or frustrated with tasks. They also tend to move constantly and are impulsive, not stopping to think before they act. These behaviors are generally common in children. But they occur more often than usual and are more severe in a child with ADHD.
