    you can message Scot Crosby (aka Bus Grease Monkey on TH-cam) with any questions about your vintage bus. He's an expert on these busses, he has a '47 silversides.

    There’s a lot of potential here. Seek help when you need it. Maybe do a series as you move forward. Wish you luck.

    I just tuned in. How someone who calls themselves "Awake Collective" ends up with a project like this is probably a good story in itself. I like that he is happy the airbox is missing without realizing what is its purpose - that is how I know that videos after this will be entertaining.

    Make sure Scott the Bus Grease Monkey knows about this bus. He and his wife have a 1947 model. His son has one as well. He has a popular You Tube channel and is the best person to know when your bus needs work of any kind. He now has a big shop near Nashville, Tennessee.

    If it were mine the #1 priority for me would to address the engine air filter. Nothing will ruin this project faster, unless of course you are planning on rebuilding it soon.

      Oh yaa I know and I've learned more how its especially not good for Detroit's. It was only a mile it had to drive as is. The guy I got it from wanted it gone and when I got there he had it started already.
      I'm redoing everything as time goes on. I've been looking for an air box for it, have to hit a junk yard

    Maybe someone has said this already... Don't run the engine without an air filter. "Dusting" the engine will lead to expensive repairs. They are doable, but expensive and inconvenient. Good luck! I'm jealous!

      Thank you! Yaaa I wasnt too happy about it, was only for a mile for so. I did hear about how bad dust is for the blower and had a bit of woops go through me . The guy wanted it gone lol

    We own a 1947 PD3751-473 Silversides. Someone had cut out my modesty panels and 1/2 of the luggage racks. I'm having to completely rewire mine due to rodents destroying the complete wiring harness. The original oil bath air filters are the best. Bummer he removed them. I put our batteries in the adjacent bay and put an AD9 air drier in the spot where the battery trays were. Just subbed to your channel!!! Thanks!

    @Tchristman100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are not going to use over the road air conditioning-mainly use the big blowers, then you don't need those giant 8D batteries. I have a transit bus with a 8V-71 with normal size 31 batteries that 2 of the size 31 batteries starts the engine just fine. You go from the 8D weighing 160lbs each to size 31 weighing about 80lbs. WAY easier to handle and MUCH cheaper.

    you need a air breather on that or the dirt will ruin the blower on that ,,,it is a 6 cyl 238 71 series Detroit YOU need a breather on that engine quick,,,it had a oil bath breather that's why it was sooo heavy nice find though 😉

    It is a smoker because it is a 2 stroker engine which is very common on these buses. You will never stop it from smoking, but do not worry because IF it STOPS smoking then you will have a real problem

    The air box that was taken out filters the engine air intake, it might be bulky but the engine needs those filters.

    • @theovanveen5375
      @theovanveen5375 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong! The primary function of the 'airbox' is forcing air into the engine to push exhaust gasses out and supply air for combustion.
      It's NOT an airfilter!
