McHale had skills, and no-one can deny it! Bird was firing full-court passes, and McHale was ready! No wonder the Celtics were the team to beat in the 80s.
2:01 the goaltending call is on Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson, who was 6’1” iirc. They called him the microwave cuz he’d heat up so fast off the bench. Instant offense on call, one of their top scorers even though he’s a sub, might even have won some 6th man of the year awards 🤔
Little fun fact after this game they interviewed Larry Bird and they asked what he though of Kevin scoring 56 he said he should of went for 60 and then came out the next game against the Hawks and bird scores 60 . I remember the quote on the radio when I was on the bus heading to school and never forgot that that’s legendary
Fun fact... The reason McHale scored so much this game is cause the center from the other team "Benson" was Birds teammate when he was a Hoosier at Indiana University. Bird was at IU for only 1 month but left after not liking his stay. He transferred to Indiana State after. Apparently some of his teammates didn't get along with him including Benson who apparently mistreated Bird pretty badly. So when they played each other in the NBA, Bird made sure to have McHale dominate him. Bird just kept feeding McHale the ball all night long 🤣🤣🤣

That's what I expected to see. But, most of the passes came from Paris or age. Of course most of them are offensive rebounds but I only saw a few from Larry
Kent Benson actually got so mad during this game that he threw a tantrum and got ejected. You can see the start of it near 2:31 where you hear a whistle and then Kent walks over to the ref. He ends up having a total meltdown and getting ejected, which is why you don’t see him any more after. The backstory is Kent was actually Captain of the University of Indiana team which bullied Larry into quitting college the first time, and Larry said Kent played a leading role in the fiasco. So you KNOW Larry was talking to Kent all night long. I mean, larry talked trash much of the time anyway, but this time, it’s Kent. 🤔

Favorite performance by the great Kevin "The Man Of Thousand Moves" McHale.

It wasn't the next game. It was ten days later, and Larry predicted he would do it.

I would’ve dominated Benson myself if I was Larry Bird.
Kent Benson is also the same guy Kareem punched in the face mid-game. Nobody like him lmao
@@KWCline91Well you can't because you don't chose your defender lol
Who is this "Benson"?....oh wait, I got it now, I just didn't recognize him without any blood on his face.

2:31 look at that sequence with those long arms, omg
Look at him. He runs like a Welshman.
Kevin Mc. Was most under-rated scorer
He wasn’t underrated at the time, but he is now.
Kevin running an entire team into the ground running fast breaks. Then still has the legs to make the tip in.
Bruh, mchale dropped a 56 piece on the pistons? Holy shit.
Those arms are insane looooooong ... ... ...
Larry and Kevin wanted to punish Benson, he bullied Larry at Indiana
Hit a nerve with Larry; so much so that only a few games later he surpassed McHale's accomplishment by four points!
