    I just yesterday found a CF7 in a thrift store for $8. The casing is built like a tank, and I kind of like the front pop-open battery compartment under the foot switch lever.
    It didn't work straight away - these use buffered bypass, so it needed power to pass a signal through, but it wouldn't switch on - but it only needed to be opened up and have the internal connectors cleaned. Still finding my way around it, but I'm digging the sound.

      One of my most purchased and resold pedals. I always regret selling it. Nothing sounds quite like that whakd setting

      Iirc there switches were pretty cheap and would usually fail. Its a shame cause they are cool pedals. I can't imagine replacing the switch being too difficult compared to say a Boss pedal.

    Cf7 hack open up the back pop the circuit board out. find the hidden trim pot to change the wet dry mix! made mine sound awesome. also my favorite setting is the flanger mode in the wack'd setting with the speed all the way down everything else at 2 o'clock. gives you a uni-vibe tone. I currently own 7 TONE LOK pedals!

      Wait really?!?! I was going to buy a boss LS2 to blend wet and dry but I didn't know this existed!

    Glad to hear someone talking about these pedals, since more people deserve to know about them! 20 years ago I bought my first Tone-Lok pedal, and a couple of years ago I set out to collect all of them, including the two wah pedals and the the two limited edition pedals (green TS7 and pink DE7). Just a while back I finally finished my journey and I then made a video showing all of them together on a (big) pedalboard, and of course I had to try all of them on at once - total chaos ensued... If that's something you'd wanna see/hear, take a look at my channel where the video will be available. :)

      Hi Linus, this just popped up in my feed (God knows why it keeps doing this, I'm down to exactly 2 'pedals' now, my retired 1988 ME-5 and my Boss SY-1000 (because guitar modeling and alternate tunings like C#sus4 for no particular reason...) lol) and immediately thought of messaging you one of the other comments above that I thought might be useful to you... but since you're here now...
      JM-bg2ts said "Cf7 hack open up the back pop the circuit board out. find the hidden trim pot to change the wet dry mix! made mine sound awesome. also my favorite setting is the flanger mode in the wack'd setting with the speed all the way down everything else at 2 o'clock. gives you a uni-vibe tone. Hope that's useful, you can thank him here somewhere if it is.
      Hope you're keeping well and the approaching FGC hasn't broken your brain and software again this year :)

      @@robp775Hey, man! Nice to see you here, too. :) Glad to hear that you aren't a current victim of P.A.S. (pedal acquisition syndrome) and can get by with minimal gear.
      That hack tip from JM-bg2ts is pure gold and I'm SO gonna try out the uni-vibe thing, as I'ne never owned (or even played) one before. Gave him a thanks, too.
      As for the FGC notation this year, I did have to resort to Sibelius for a few passages because Guitar Pro couldn't handle it (bar-crossing tuplets, mostly) but it wasn't the worst year from a notational point of view. Pretty sure the campers are gonna struggle with the material, though...

      @@MrGul Really happy it was a useful tip for you. That Pedalboard is awesome.
      And to be fair, I'm not completely pedal-less. The SY is no Helix, but it's still has some decent pedal sims in it. Plus I picked up Amplitube5 Max for $150 last December, which has given me a bucketload of pedal sims to never use as well, lol. My circumstances changed a couple of months ago and I've had to take Mr 5 Watt Worlds Keith Williams motto (the most music from the least gear) to absolute extremes, and I'm quite proud of what I've achieved, managing to fit an entire studio into a literal backpack full of stuff chosen very carefully for value and versatility.
      And very glad to hear the campers will be working harder than you had to this year. :)

      @@robp775 Ah, the wisdom of Keith Williams! I watch all his stuff, but yet I never seem to incorporate anything of what he actually says even though I know in my brain that he's totally right...

    Tone-loks are an awesome series. Remember trying out the chorus / flanger in a guitar shop about 15 years back when I was looking at getting my first pedal. Now have quite a few pedals but unfortunately no tone-loks.

  • @EspeciallyCrunchy

    Tone Loks are some of my favorite pedals of all-time...especially the CF7. It represents why I started playing uitar...the sounds Korn made. Big fan of the PH7 too, I call it "Pat Travers in a box".

    I have all of the pedals from this series except for the Bass-oriented Pedals. Most of them are pretty awesome, the DE7 is a steal at the price you can get it at. The SM7 Smashbox is - well - odd, but other than that, I‘m not parting with any of them!

    Then, there was the Tone-Loc series from Ibanez. It didn't go over well. Every time you'd try to play anything through it, it sounded like Funky Cold Medina and would only play 1 or 2 seconds of a sampled Van Halen song.

    Great playing, but I disagree with the vibrato take on the CF7. Just back the speed and regen knobs back and you have a sought after lofi tone.

  • @brndnlndr
    @brndnlndr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On the wack'd setting of the CF-7, crank the rate and depth all the way up and you can get a weird ring modulator-type sound.

    Those pedals actually sound pretty good. I think people are starting to realize how little junk is actually out there. Most stuff is ranges anywhere from usable to great.

  • @mattiasjp
    @mattiasjp ปีที่แล้ว

    They sound good but the build quality is questionable. They have really flimsy switches for one. I have the Fuzz and the Distortion, so I’m not just guessing here. The Fuzz has an unreliable switch and the Distortion has a microphonic enclosure.
    But they do sound good, just not road ready like the looks might have you thinking.

    That Lok thing is a total gimmick. Take care of your stuff! I've never knocked knobs out of setting, but I'm not a savage, I take care of what I pay for.
    I have fond memories of seeing ads for this series, they were released when I began high school in 99. Korn, Orgy, Limp Bizkit were key to marketing these pedals as they were selling albums and touring like mad. Korn was ESPECIALLY heavy on the effects back in the day, they made use of that "useless" warble hehehe! I always thought the design was very backwards, like the casing of a late 80's computer or other hardware from ten to fifteen years before lol
    I had no money back then. Pedals (at least quality ones) were a dream, because in my town, we only had stores that sold really bad musical equipment.
    20 years later, I am a Chorus pedal fanatic and saw a synth/pedal demo featuring the TC7. It's among the best-sounding tri-chorus pedals out there. Thick, full of character, can be romantic, or "wicked" as were many things when NuMetal showed it's highly-marketable face. Thank you so much for this extensive look at this series, that TS7 has crazy range, sounds fantastic! Definitely the best in your lot, Rock on!

    Don’t pay attention to the man on the screen. Lol The TS 7 is total junk so don’t buy any off em. It’s not my favorite TS and I don’t like to buy em up for myself at $35-40 used. If you happen to make that mistake And buy the TS7, being the great guy I am I would save you by taking em off your hand. Thank me latter...
