This song is very popular during the release of the 2013 romantic/horror-comedy remake of Thai 18th Century Folklore in Rattanakosin Era, called Mae Nak Prakanong. Her husband (Pi Mak) went to war while she conceiving a child. At that time, the maternal mortality rate is quite high because of the lack of health accessibility. A tragedy strikes when Mae Nak dies from childbirth and the villagers carelessly bury her without proper ceremony and blessing from a monk, so she and her unborn child become ghouls terrorizing the village and wait for Pi Mak return from the war. The villagers hired a sorcerer to trapped her inside a pot. But she broke free when Pi Mak is back to reunited with his late wife, even though he knows that she is no longer human he remain oblivious to her. Until there was a devoted young monk travelling to this village, he persuaded Mae Nak to accept reality and abide the law of nature because the dead and the living should not intermingled. After a long debate and fighting sequence she agreed to leave for the afterlife.
There were tons of other versions depending on the storyteller like some monks who selling talismans always distorted folklore to selling faiths to struggling lay people.
