Even Dhaka, Bangladesh took just 6 years to complete its first metro line of 20 km in length also built by the same Japanese company that built thr Saigon and Jakarta metro.

@@LollipopLop Because RTS is elavated. elavated train is faster than underground. This is also the case in MRT Jakarta. Elevated rail is built faster. while the underground rail takes a lot of time. especially when you need to keep maintain the building above.
Congrats to Vietnam! For better or worse, this will boost their tourist numbers like crazy (especially as the metro expands). That will boost the economy dramatically but might drive locals nuts with huge numbers of tourists wandering around.
Don't stop now Vietnam! Keep making more railways! Here in the Philippines, we're busy extending our Light Rail Transit to reach the very edges and into the provinces(Many are already done and you can take the LRT for hours if you want to and reach outside of the Capital) and are even busy building a Subway network with an Airport Express and a Long Haul North and South of Luzon. I went to Saigon last Christmas, and have been to Thailand many times. One can easily tell which of the two countries is more developed. Then again when you consider the fact that Vietnam is communist it’s not a big surprise.
Don't care which city is more advanced and government. Both Bangkok and HCMC are fantastic cities to visit. They are safe, offer delicious food and fun things to do.
I'm so proud of my country coming out from the ruin and damage of a very horrible civil war and now into a middle income nation and expected to be a developed country by 2045. Nah. I don't think it is better for a solo traveler. 1) Metro probably takes more time than Grab bike if you are not going far. You'll spend time walking to the metro and then the platform and buying the ticket (instead of just paying with the credit card). 2) You see many things riding in the back of motorbike.

The Hanoi Line 2A began construction in October 2011 and was completed in 2021. The line was constructed by China Railway Engineering Corporation. Line 2A opened to the public on 6 November 2021, becoming the first operational metro line in Hanoi and whole Vietnam. This HCMC Metro is a JV between Vietnam and Japan.

What you expect 5 cents per km? No need to pay wages for workers? No need to buy insurance?
