A picture truly is worth a thousand words and many memories. I moved to Lansing for 5th grade at Reavis, and then on to Lester Crawl, Memorial and South. Thank you for bringing the wonderful memories of my childhood home today.
Wow, you sure stirred up some ghosts for me. I lived in Lansing, late 60's early 70's. Went to Memorial and T.F. South. First saw "A Hard Day's Night" and "2001" at "the Lans".and bought my first vinyl copy of "Sgt. Pepper's" at Ben Franklin's. It was a great place to grow up, and I still keep in contact with a lot of old friends from there, even though I now live in Florida. Thanks for posting.
Great memories - and my mother's shop, The Knitter's Nook was included. Moved from Calumet City in 1958, went to Memorial JHS. We moved in the summer, and my parents forgot to transfer me to the new school system.
so sad to see lansing slowly going under, bunch of abandoned shopping centers/buildings, the pool is closed, erfert park which i fished for many years growing up has basically eroded into a muddy mess. popolonos (however you spell it) is closing its doors. oh well still have plenty of memories
pretty cool. most are way before my time, pipes and pizza's was here when i moved here, i think it was around 1989 or so, i was somewhere around 9 years old and lived by cooledge school . its kinda sad now. the pool is closed, the entire shopping district on Torrance just south of the highway is abandoned except the saab dealer. great video, i actually recognized a lot of these pictures
Wow,....So many memories. Coolidge school for 3rd grade. Moved to Hammond Indiana. Back to Lansing for 8th grade at Memorial Jr. High then off to Thornton Fractional High School. There was no North or South TF. Class of 55. The Police Chief VanLaningham. Pennsylvania rail road trains going through town, with steam locomotives. Bert & Ells, all Volunteer fire department, Helen & Pete's tavern. There was also a place on 171st street (I think) the name? The Bloody Bucket Saloon.
Been trying to find this footage since becoming aware of it recently, and send the Lansing Historical Society a link. Thanks for the mems and nice work.
Very Nice! Well put together. I grew up in Lansing and didn't move to far away(Highland) I ushered at the Lans! Wilders Bakery was the best! The one school looks like Reavis. Went there for grades 1-2. It was on to Oak Glen, Memorial and South. Seems like yesterday! I'll be showing this to some guests this weekend...
Wow!! So cool! First thing I see is Ben Franklins. My Mom worked there for years!!! This brings back so many good memories of Lansing! Thanks for putting it together!
Thank you for this! I also made a couple vids about Lansing for my page on Facebook. I invite you to check them out and join my page if you haven't already.
