Christmas Tree Fire Turns Devastating and Deadly Within Seconds

  • A live Christmas tree burn shows just how quickly a dried-out Christmas tree burns, with flashover occurring in less than one minute, as compared to a well-watered tree, which burns at a much slower rate. Take care to water your tree, so that it doesn’t become a fire hazard.
This live burn was conducted by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

I dunno, I'd sorta imagine that an organisation called the "National Fire Protection Association" knows how to protect themselves from fire and has things prepared to either protect themselves or escape from it, should the worst happen, but I guess that's just ludicrous to imagine, huh?

My mate (a fire fighter) and his colleagues sit in an old shipping container with a branch ready and primed, and watch as the flames go above their heads, apparently it's mesmerising to see. It's part of their training, they do a lot of drills to keep them refreshed on different scenarios, that still is one of his favourites to do, as well as smoke room training.

@Gabby Rae this was not a real house and was a video to show the public how fast a dried out Christmas tree can catch on fire within seconds and destroy everything... so nobody was in danger here

I remember the story of a school in Oklahoma (cant remember the name of the school) and it was during a school play and during the time when you put candles on your tree. One of the candles fell over amd lit the tree on fire and no one got out because the doors opened inward instead of out. It was pretty bad and those that were fond could only ve identified by a button or piece of fabric.

I remember back in communist Eastern Europe, we would actually place a dozen of small wax candles on the tree using small clips, and light them up at Christmas. Also, there was no stand holding water available, only normal stands. Everyone was doing the same in the block apartment. Fires were rare, but I guess when it happened it was ugly. In the video, you can be sure that by 0:20, anyone in the room would have been toasted from extreme radiant heat, even if lying on the floor. This fire is merciless, the second it starts, RUN, it's already too late to do anything. It's actually the radiant heat that ignites instantly the furniture.
