It was just a week ago, when I was there, that Duke got all lathered up. He's really built up strength and endurance from working on the woods! Miss those sweet boys and the "side hugs" when brushing them! ❤💙❤
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim as one of your old neighbors in the town of Ellenburgh Center I miss seeing you with your horses as I would ride by on my horse. It was always a joy to watch you.
Sorry for a second comment. Seeing Skippy chasing the cows reminded me of this. Our bred heifers stayed in a pasture near the barn all summer. One midsummer day we saw the heifers heaving to recover their breath, with bloody tails where they were grabbed and held. It happened again for a few nights afterwards, and one heifer aborted her calf. Dad contacted Fish and Game and they set up in the pasture with spotlights and rifles. Sure enough, three dogs snuck into the pasture and started to chase. A Game Warden shot a dog, the others ran away. Turned out it was a deputy sheriff’s dogs who lived more than a mile away. Game Warden said once dogs get the thrill of the chase, they return to do it again.
Hi guys and gals. I really enjoyed ur filming while doing part of a chore before u said hallo. Ya I had to decide what chore to do 1st, when i was living. That little chore is just as important as the rest in the end. Earl is the same height n temperament as Baren. Duke has a beautiful tail, of the two 4 yr olds, fur what it's worth. 😅 tho i feel that Duke was gonna have to sell. He's a good boy too. Skippy on the other hand, needs some learnen abt the cows. hahaha 😂 Ty for letting the film roll a bit after ya say good by. I enjoy being w you so now I can let go a little easier. Take care. Hope you have a good rest of your day. God bless yall
It’s great that Duke is aggressive, isn’t it? Shows he’s ready to work. Surfer Jim, riding the waves of the plowed field. I was the “designated rider” to work out the winter sassyness of our riding horses. I waited until Dad started Spring plowing and rode them in the plowed ground until their desire to buck was used up. Hard work for the horses, plus a soft landing in case I was bucked off. No , I never was thrown.
I remember a few years (before children), Lady was out plowing with two others, one of whom I know was Bill. I don’t remember the third one. In any event, I remember that the field was mostly dry with occasional wet spots. I don’t remember if they were plowing, discing, or whatever Jim is doing in this film. Lady was walking left-most of the three and was walking in the “ditch.” She hit a spot where it was a bit wet and her foot sunk in and she fell over. She was a champ. She laid there on her side while Jim ran around and unhitched the other two I horses from her and moved them away. I believe Jim removed all of Lady’s working gear except perhaps her bridle and only then did he encourage her to get up and she popped right up. Great joy all around and a breath of relief none of us knew we were holding. There is a man who knows how to handle his horses and, in doing so, creates a great relationship of trust with them. Respect, Jim!
Beautiful horses!!! The three brothers make a handsome team together! Thanks for sharing a lovely fall day on the farm!!!! Skippy the "cattle wrangler"!😘
I love the videos. It amazes me that you haven’t been injured with all the heavy- sharp equipment. I get nerved up when you are riding the disk thinking about how many things could go wrong😊
We I plowed as a kid we would plow the main field pull out at the headlands and turn on the unplowed ground. Then when main field was done we came back and did the headlands.
PG here, Jim, thank you for giving the viewers a good explanation of what and why you are disking in this field. Brenda, very good camera work. The angles and shots give the viewers a sense of really being there. Hard too walk on before the disk is applied. Each pass of the team of horses, even their own weight, breaks up the hardened soil, making it easier to walk on.
Hey Jim ,I know about dry ground, I just finished my firebreaks and the ground was so dry it was like trying to plough cement lol, least we got them done before fire season (western Australia)
I'm thinking about when you started the boys and how nice it is seeing them work and walk as a team now. Thank you for the talk and the beautiful views.
I have trouble walking on flat ground, if I tried walking behind the horses like that I would probably have sprained or broken ankles. I really enjoy watching your abilities with the horses. Another interesting video, with great camera work. Thank you
weight is fine when using a tractor or extra horses. Dad had 6 horses on a 12 ft double disc. He rode a harrow cart (with a seat) towed behind the disc.
Beautiful day down there. So nice to see you still have some Fall Folage☀️🍂. Our leaves are pretty well all gone. Some geese are still hanging around up hear in Central Alberta. Duke with his spunkiest might be a good team mate with Bill.🐴🐴. The smoothing out the head land should make your sleigh rides along there a bit smoother as well. Good footage🙌🏼🤠🍁
Your Soil look to be darned well, the Tiles are working, little dryer than I would prefer, but it is what it is and better than what it was, Have a wonderful safe day Jim and Brinda
This is so hard on the legs, fetlocks and hocks. It is surprising hard and difficult the ruts are on the lower legs. I groan to watch them on the uneven ground.
🧐Interesting info plowing/ disking , enjoyed 3 brothers working together, Duke mane long hope I’m not reading too much into this 😢🤭, Brenda very good camera work, one of those easier days 👀👍👋
These Suffolks will be a good replacement for Bill, Lady and Ken, who are not getting any younger. And their handy size will be welcome when you, Brenda and Jim get older as harnessing taller horses doesn't get easier. Jim , you are a man of extraordinary balance , standing on the wobbly disk as you do.
Cracking sky. Think I would of rolled the ploughed ground first before the disc..would of kept some moisture back in it too...always tricky, always something...best of luck
yea,,,I have diff. projects going on ...I love projects tho...I just seem to have to accomplish something everyday. lov from south alabama. I do have a sign I made me that reads....'Let what you have done today be enough.'
just wondering would it break up the larger clogs better if you were to put some more weight on the disks. or would it make it harder to pull around the field ?
I was wondering how you were going to do those headlands. Be a rough old ride. Those three look sharp together. I should be working in the shop. I should be logging. I should be sawing. I should be fencing. Anybody looking to volunteer LOL?
Do or say something that will change someone else life for the future today .Little jobs like that to do . Is there still access to the cabin with the horses ?.
My Dad used to put a railroad rail! On the upper shelves for weight, cement blocks and sometimes chain on a wet log or two on, makes a big difference, then take the weight off and travel faster and lighter to break up the smaller clumps for finish up, our disc was the same as Yours Jim or maybe slightly wider than yours but very similar. Nice work in a tough situation..
It was just a week ago, when I was there, that Duke got all lathered up. He's really built up strength and endurance from working on the woods!

I always love watching you work your horses either as a team or more. You have them so well behaved and under control.
Thank you for watching!

So glad you are using Duke more. If he is true to the breed standard, he will make you proud!
Skippy is listening really well when you called him from "playing" with the cows. 😊
It would be fun to see Trudy’s school class, and Abbys work place, maybe the outside of your church.

Thank you Jim and Brenda. That is a lot of horse power.❤Such a beautyful video❤
Thanks for watching!
4 horsepower to be specific. 😃
Much to learn from these videos how the horses work together and solve the tasks coming up. Great to watch 🐎❣️🤩

that was the first time I' d seen one of Jim's videos..I "ve been hooked ever since after seeing how he dealt with the situation !
I should be working at firewood but I am watching your video instead😂😂😂.❤
Take a break 😀
Beautiful horses!!! The three brothers make a handsome team together! Thanks for sharing a lovely fall day on the farm!!!! Skippy the "cattle wrangler"!😘
Hee hee hee, Jim the Field Surfer! That would Brenda the Beach Babe!
I am glad it is Jim walking behind the boys . I would have fallen in the dirt right from the start. Hope Jim stays upright.
Learning a lot how work is done with a pair of good horse team. Thank you for showing all details🐎🐴
Appreciate that you are aware of and care that the uneven ground is hard on the horses and work to change it
Watching you work your horses and land is awesome
Looks like hard work, for you and the horses, also your faithful videographer. Thanks, Brenda.
Brenda, I love how the horses turn and stare at you. What beautiful brown eyes on Duke
😅I wondered if you ever thought of doing a video of your town were you shop and other stores.😢Lyle and Chris Shrontz Kankakee IL.
I love the videos. It amazes me that you haven’t been injured with all the heavy- sharp equipment. I get nerved up when you are riding the disk thinking about how many things could go wrong😊
Hey Jim and Brenda, a great video today, It's a real good workout for Boys . Also wonderful training .Duke is starting to settle in as well
Brenda you must get up mighty early in the morning to get all your work done, laundry, cleaning house, cooking etc.
They are so beautiful 😍
We I plowed as a kid we would plow the main field pull out at the headlands and turn on the unplowed ground. Then when main field was done we came back and did the headlands.
I enjoyed seeing the boys, evened, and discer with Jim on top.

I won't be surprise if Duke turns out to be a power horse like Bill.
I agree.
Nice seeing Duke working good he is a beautiful horse
Duke Is Looking Good Behaving Better Now I'm Telling You He And Bill Dozer Are Going To Be Your Top Team All Around Blessings And Please Be Safe ✌️
Hey Jim ,I know about dry ground, I just finished my firebreaks and the ground was so dry it was like trying to plough cement lol, least we got them done before fire season (western Australia)
Thank you Brenda for the garbage bag and leaf tip…I’m going to do it because we live in a windy area near the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I'm thinking about when you started the boys and how nice it is seeing them work and walk as a team now. Thank you for the talk and the beautiful views.
Don't forget to say thank you to Brenda
Your horses are just magnificent animals.
Great job filming Brenda. Looks like challenging walking
I love seeing the three work! Fall colors fading but still gorgeous! Ty
I have trouble walking on flat ground, if I tried walking behind the horses like that I would probably have sprained or broken ankles. I really enjoy watching your abilities with the horses.
Another interesting video, with great camera work. Thank you
Good content
Love watching the horse work
I am glad to see these horses working together. Wow good.
Good young Horses, well trained and a Joy to watch and work with
They use to put heavy cement blocks on the disk to make it dig in better but that would burn out the horses much faster. Thanks for the video.
I was thinking about sand bags . They sure seem bouncy at times.
weight is fine when using a tractor or extra horses. Dad had 6 horses on a 12 ft double disc. He rode a harrow cart (with a seat) towed behind the disc.
Love seeing the brothers triple hitch!!!
That's the way I feel too! Great saying! Love it! Thank you! 😊❤

I think the boys listen more to you Brenda then Jim...😂
I can see Duke's still on the fence still. hopefully he shapes up soon.
Nice video Jim sure knows what he is doing on leveling the land
I know Jim Brenda it is very dry here in Lancaster as well love your videos ❤
Good morning! How do you have the lines? How about more cut on the disk? Thanks for the video. Your friend Hershel from Missouri.
A great team for the job!
I am fiddling "Swinging on a Gate" on my violin.
Hello from the 1904 Electric Company on the rocky coast of Maine, US October 28, 2024.
Good looking team
Love your videos Jim an Brenda
Great video Jim been watching for a long while love your videos and Abbys keep up the great videos
General question- why are you ploughing these fields? Is it for future crops( and which crops if so?) or leveling fields due to the tiling??
The boys re looking great
I see a big difference in Duke
Was wondering what kind of snaffle bit you use on the work horses
Love the horses
@31:26 notice how the disc works better with all that extra weight on it!🤪
Brenda even when you run with our camera you are smooth. What’s your secret!
🧐Interesting info plowing/ disking , enjoyed 3 brothers working together, Duke mane long hope I’m not reading too much into this 😢🤭, Brenda very good camera work, one of those easier days 👀👍👋
I was thinking the same thing about no fresh roach!?!?
What’s that building in the woods duke was scared of,is it a house or shed?and how did it get there.?
YOU must have very good balance JIM to ride on that disc.
Boy oh boy , Bree is looking stunning.
It’s always nice to see both of you and your team of horses at work, but hum Jim be careful with the disk this can be dangerous for you.
These Suffolks will be a good replacement for Bill, Lady and Ken, who are not getting any younger. Amazing the amount of balance that is acquired when holding a set of reins and concentrating on driving a team!!
What do you think about putting some weight on the disc
SUCH a gorgeous threesome. Love it.
Cracking sky. Think I would of rolled the ploughed ground first before the disc..would of kept some moisture back in it too...always tricky, always something...best of luck
It would appear that adding some weight to the double set of disc's would increase your results by dampening the degree of bouncing?
👍👍👍👍
yea,,,I have diff. projects going on ...I love projects tho...I just seem to have to accomplish something everyday. lov from south alabama. I do have a sign I made me that reads....'Let what you have done today be enough.'
i can soon see a seat on the disk
just wondering would it break up the larger clogs better if you were to put some more weight on the disks. or would it make it harder to pull around the field ?
How was Duke so far today??
Hello! Duke is doing great!
It looks like the horses are having a hard time walking
YOU make good common sense JIM
Brenda is it out there the Bee man was trying to capture a wild swarm?
I’ve got an old disc about the same as yours, do you know what make it is?
I think mine is a John Deere.
Thank you for another great video. I can see why you don’t want to ride while discing Jim you would be bouncing all over the place.
Hard to keep everything in order when you've got several irons in the fire...so just do as you just happen to have in fall in order
I always planned to disc harrow the day after plowing, when the soil was fresh, but that didn't always happen.
Even with YOUR weight on the disc I see it cutting better in the dirt.
your horses are so fine' thanks.
What do you say when you want to the horses to pull straight ahead.
Careful Step😊
I was wondering how you were going to do those headlands. Be a rough old ride. Those three look sharp together.
I should be working in the shop. I should be logging. I should be sawing. I should be fencing. Anybody looking to volunteer LOL?
Skip wants herd the cows
Would YOU need four horses if YOU put cement blocks on the gangs
Do or say something that will change someone else life for the future today .Little jobs like that to do . Is there still access to the cabin with the horses ?.
Pretty willy-nilly around my place.
You 😅 look like the Amish farmers around where l live
Jim Put some kinda back rest on that stand. I shutter to think of you falling back and your legs going under those rear disks.
Why does Skippy want to chase the cows ? That’s not good !
one day at atime and see what you can get done within the day
I'm torn between watching videos in my jammies and getting dressed and doing something productive.
Your all going to have tired legs tonight.
why no weights on each gange
My Dad used to put a railroad rail! On the upper shelves for weight, cement blocks and sometimes chain on a wet log or two on, makes a big difference, then take the weight off and travel faster and lighter to break up the smaller clumps for finish up, our disc was the same as Yours Jim or maybe slightly wider than yours but very similar.
