@@Codacolor you’re opinion is $hit. The camera is way too overpriced for the pictures it produces and it’s not even a leica. If the price wasn’t so outrageous the camera would be an 8/10
Your 'budget friendly' camera recommendation is pretty expensive if you just want to document your life on film. In my experience, any fixed lens p&s from a big brand offers good enough image quality - with the prime Mjus you're paying for the hype and pocketability. Of course, great video as always!
I've borrowed it from a friend about a year ago. The pics turned out really great, but I don't think that it should be priced that high for a used one.
I never comment on youtube videos but wanted to say thanks for all the great advice and concent! It's been so helpful in my recent experimentation with film photography, and your production and the way you get your message across makes everything so easy to digest. What a treat.
I remember thinking the T3 was getting expensive when it hit $1000 street price 10 years ago... I used many of these types of cameras including the T2, Minolta TC1, but my favorite for ergonomics and useability will always be the Ricoh GR1, and they are still relatively affordable in comparison. Just no premium titanium look.
I've had all sorts of cameras, and just the flaw of not being able to set it to definitely shoot wide open, disqualifies it to me. Ridiculous. In 1972, when I was 14 or 15, my father asked me to recommend a camera for him. I gave him a few choices, then he drove me to NYC to check them out in person. We chose the Olympus SP rangefinder with 42mm f/1.7, and both center-weighted and (at the press of a button) spot metering. Most of the pictures he took for the rest of his life, and almost all of his best ones, were taken with it. I still have it. I much later bought my mom a Ricoh R1, and still have that also. Sentimental value aside, I doubt I'd trade a random R1 for a T2 (except to flip for profit) and I know for certain that an SP in perfect condition is not being traded for a T2 by any sane person.
You didn't mention the data back. You can make that camera put the date in the corner of the negative so that everyone who sees that picture knows you have a camera from the 1990s. Man, I hated those things. I worked at a camera store that sold Fuji Discovery cameras. They were reliable little point and shooters with "drop-in loading" that was almost foolproof and they had that infernal date back. One of the first things I would show potential buyers was how to turn it off. Weirdly, so many people absolutely loved the stupid date back. Meta data for the nineties...
So this is a great video and now I think you might have got me interested in point and shoot film cameras. Yes I can do the research on my own but incase you were looking for ideas on videos... please make one suggesting the alternates to this one please. Or at least cameras that are worth spending money on that might be vaguely similar. I know you said this one is the best but I'm not dropping Fuji money on that. Great video again
I’d argue that 90% of old photo gear is monstrously overpriced these days. Especially considering even less than 5 years ago, and for many years prior, you could get most of it for next to nothing. I miss those days. Now it’s a hobby that can bankrupt a person. Haha
Rage bait title, but other than overpriced and overhyped this camera is a time bomb of dying electronics waiting to happen and incredibly hard to repair. Also, you can't choose to shoot f2.8. Good lens and aesthetic though. Olympus XA is a much more budget friendly and useful tool, has exposure compensation, rangefinder manual focus, can actually be set to f2.8 and iso control. Got mine for $60 with flash attachment. Bad bokeh though.
good camera if you enjoy a quarter of your shots out of focus. the t2 was already hype before jenner. she just brought along more posers. go buy a klasse w/s for the same price and actually have your shots in focus.
Beside the smell … lol 😂😆 There is one thing I have the feeling most videos don’t mention about the Contax T2 and that’s the big and clear viewfinder. I don’t know how the viewfinder of the Nikon 35Ti, but the Contax T2 viewfinder is much better compared to the similar priced Leica Minilux with the 40mm Summarit lens. If I remember correctly the Contax T2 is also slightly slimmer compared to the Minilux, so if they were priced the same I would choose the T2 🤓
People cry to much about it being $1000. Come on you spend more on eating out and shopping for useless things. The T2 is a great camera and I almost bought one except it sold before I got to the camera store. I ended up geting a Contax TVS. Still has a Zeiss lens and this last summer I found out just how good it is. The photos came out Very sharp and comparable to a T2 and The shape of the camera is pretty much exactley like a T2. Oh, and did I mention that you can get one for a quarter of the price of a T2.

DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA. Yes it's cool. But they're also plagued with issues and they're basically impossible to repair. You're better off with a newer Fuji Klasse W
Why should I buy a camera like this With a 1000 Dollar I can get for example a Canon Eos 300 for a 50 Euro or 75 Dollar and a used Sigma 35 mm EF used one too for a 300 Euro or 400 Dollar and have extra cash for more lenses So this having this Contax is just about the hype and the fame that this camera got for the last couple of years ..
It smells like wasted money. Contax T2 is made for folks who hate money or suckers that go gaga over the mention of CONTAX and ZEISS. There's an are infinite numbers of cameras in the hundred dollar price range that are easily as good and far more flexible. What a joke.

Stop recommending this camera to people. They shouldn't buy it anymore.
You need a comparison with the very similar Leica CM (2008, Titanium, made in Germany)

Only one thing to roast… what you call the light meter it’s actually the focusing window. The light meter is a little dot on the top part of the lens

I was waiting for a quality-like review but first things first were exposure compensation dial and SMELL of camera

Had it back in the day. Never really liked it - the 38mm lens was too tight. Also not very sharp. Prefered my Nikon 28 Ti.
Gosh I want this camera SO BAD. Wish I bought one in 2008 when they were a little cheaper.
If you open up the camera, you find out just how terribly made it is. I can't believe they are still working.

What's the film speed you usually use to be able to switch around the exposure comp like that?

is it the only camera of its kind with all the Features, or is there an other less known alternative?
To comment on the end of the video, yes. Olympus Mju is my go to point and shoot and I’m very happy with the results. The Mju hits 99% of the time.

What's behind this camera's resurgence? Suddenly, every photography channel is making videos about it.
Its Brand Worship. If I buy a Contax with a ZEISS lens THEN my photos will be good. It's not me it's the camera!
imo the g1 is more useful and more reasonably priced
