Phil Collins literally broke his back playing drums this hard for 40 years. He now cannot walk without the aid of a stick and is in permanent pain. He sang his last concerts sat in a chair.
What an amazing drummer, singer and songwriter. An absolute legend.

There’s a clip of Chester and Phil practicing on an ottoman in a Barcelona hotel. It is awesome. I’m not a drummer, but I have seen Phil and Chester live…their drumming filled you from your lungs. Phil’s son is also a great drummer.

The third drummer on stage with Phil & Chester is Cuban percussionist Luis Conte, who has worked with numerous artists in addition to Phil. Another good drum duet by Phil& Chester to check out is "Conversation With 2 Stools" from Genesis' 2007 trunnion tour.

What you cannot get from this is the quality of the sound reinforcement for this tour. I saw this tour in Sacramento about 10 rows from the stage. The sound was the best quality I have ever heard. Phil always was a stickler for his sound reinforcement but this was the pinnacle. I haven't heard anything like it at any other concert.

Phil won 8 Grammys, 3 AMAs, 4 Billboard Music Awards, 2 Golden Globes, 6 Brits, 6 Novellos, 2 MTV Music Awards, an Academy.Award and the Disney Legend Award. He also was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003.
He’s also one of only three artists (the other two are Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson) to sell 100 million records both with their respective groups and solo.

Really love hearing old timers play the drums. They understand the music involves changes in pace, volume levels and tones is real music. I think a lot of young drummers believe that hitting the drums as hard, as loud and as fast as they can means "music"....it's not. It like young guitarists who thing shredding as fast as possible on the top three strings (G,B,E strings) from fret 15 to 22 is music or playing two string guitar power cords as hard, loud and as fast as possible is music....it's not.

I went to see a group called “Big Pig” and they were all percussion. They had a hit called “Breakaway”. It was awesome and I was in awe of their sound and rhythm. They are a New Zealand band from the late 80’s. Well worth a listen to if you can find a live recording. There radio version is still great but you can’t beat a live version.

I´d be really interested to see your reaction to the older Phil from mid mid-genesis drum duets..The Wembley drum duet from ´87 that goes into Los Endos is much more interesting as it really became a long composition Also the double drumming during Dukes Travels from 1980..it is kles a solo but their doubke drumming is so musical.

Chester Thompson is probably the most underrated drummer in music. He's a beast on the skins!

Underrated? Chester played with Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Genesis and Phil Collins. Enough said. 😂👏👍

Phil Collins loved him! Legend is, Phil had to lobby the other 2 guys to bring Chester on board.

I think you are right. There is something magic in his drumming. Dynamics, accents, his fills with cymbals interplay and many more "little" things. Check Genesis/ Seconds Live or Zappa/One Size Fits All. Wonderfull, very original attitude, nothing flashy but beautiful.

I actually had to subscribe after watching your reaction to my favorite Band!
It's neat to see someone rock out to an awsome Drum solo with 3 of the best drummers on the planet playing together :)
It's neat that you're a music teacher I went to a music school a school that specialized in music all day long and you would have fit in so nice :) I would have taken up drums and would have been happier now :) I really need a soundproof Room with fantastic acoustics! God-bless you I hope you have a happy New Year and that you stay safe. Thank you for the fun video :)

I always liked drums. When I was a kid in the '80s I wanted to learn how to play, but my parents did not allow me to. Instead they forced me to learn guitar, flute, keyboard. I was not happy about it. I studied them anything from few weeks to few years. 30+ years later, I remember close to nothing and I can't say I feel bad about it. Unfortunately I missed the boat. Now I don't have the money, the room or even the appropriate place (small apartment) to even consider starting learning/playing drums.
If I had kids, I would let them follow their heart.
Thanks for the video, it's nice to watch a "react to" channel where it's not BS reaction.
    Have a nice day.

To me the best album that Phil and Chester played was the Seconds out tour...amazing musician ship just not from them but all the band members ...the amazing link these guys have with each other is second nature and for me personally Phil and Chester are the top drummers right up there with Neil Peart, Ian Paice John Bonham and Carl Palmer

Absolutely. I have been listening to thousands and thousands albums through all my life (I am 60 years old).
Rock (art and prog mostly), classical and modern jazz, fusion, classical music ( Stravinsky, Varèse, Pärt, Poulenc - to name just a few composers i like), ethno, RIO...... and Seconds Out has been always on top of my list. Period. 😊👍
