I did not know that the first cage of the Punjabi Prison was made of the old blue steel cage from the 90s. That’s the most interesting thing about the Punjabi Prison match by a country mile
I don't think he meant that it was literally made from the old cage - I think he just meant that it was basically the same as working one, cus both are a cage made of criss crossing bars that are solid, with no give to them. It definitely seems to have been based on essentially the same design as the big blue cage, since the bamboo shoots or whatever seem to be spaced apart the exact same length as the steel bars.

If it was just one cage made out of bamboo it might work. The spikes at the top is a cool quirk on the standard cage match in itself, i.e. you can win via escape but it's extremely risky. Read an article this morning where it interviewed a former wwe writer and they said the reason they wont do the punjabi prison match anymore is because it's just too expensive to transport it (because it requires it's own truck due to how heavy it is.)
He is very insightful in his explanations. The same goes for his opinion about why he thinks WWE underutilized the Indus Sher. Not every performer gives such detailed answers. Many people won't agree, but I feel like he has a position in a company like AEW because he is the type of performer who understands the business and improvises, he doesn't just go out there and follow agents' instructions. He gets wrestling psychology (how a crowd will feel and engage) judging by his answer about why the Punjabi Prison match is a failure (hard cage structure which lacks the sound and visual effects of the modern cages- thus, using it as a weapon doesn't seem as impressive even if in reality it probably hurts more-, lack of vision for the arena viewers etc).
If they'd really want to replicate a Punjabi prison they'd make the wrestlers eat stale Naan and daal (lentils) then have them fight over who gets to use the bathroom
The way they just randomly pushed Jinder out of nowhere proves that Vince had long lost his touch. Jinder had went away, got in incredible shape yet they never presented him as a powerhouse even as champion. People compare Jinder's run to JBL, but Bradshaw had never been presented as a jobber, the APA may not have won a lot of tag titles but they were still portrayed as the toughest team in the division. Jinder didn't even get to win the Andre Battle Royal before they put the title on him. And if the idea was for him to appeal to the Indian market, why make him a stereotypical foreign heel who never won clean? A US title run with Jinder as an asskicker would have been way better. One of many reasons 2017 was WWE's worst year creatively.
