You can’t go wrong with a PSP GO, the design is awesome bro. Really wish we would see a dedicated PlayStation handheld again. Thank you man, I brought my vita 1000 with me for the flights 😂
Got a Vita about a year ago and a 3DS a few months ago and can confirm they're bangers, and yeah I'm pretty sure they're the last of their kind; I don't see Nintendo or Sony (or anyone at all really) going back to having dedicated handhelds with their own unique library of games like they did here with game budgets and development times getting as long as they have now
I think the price of the vita is what killed it the memory cards at launch were 30$-120$ and games were 50$ so just to get started it wasn't just 250$ if you include tax and the memory card/game you had to buy it was more like 356$-453$. It wasn't that it didn't have games I have like 150 good games on my psvita and about only 70 on my New 3ds xl.
I kind of wish we got the 3G PSVITAs up here in Canada. Just the idea of being able to play Black Ops online on a bus or even on a road trip was mindblowing at the time. 3DS was pretty dope to, but I found in comparison to the experiences on the Vita, it wasn't nearly as memorable. Smash Bros 3ds was dope tho!! Great video dude as always!!
I remember thinking the same thing about 3G on vita at the time, being able to play black ops online while running errands would have been incredible back then haha. I really wish we would have had a COD zombies mode on Black ops declassified. Thank you bro, appreciate it!
From what I understand, it was not possible to play games online over 3G. You could only browse the Internet, TH-cam, email, things like that. I have a 3G Vita but I never tried to play online. I did use it for other things though.
To this day I can’t understand why Sony didn’t lower the price of the vita memory cards???? They could have sold a lot more digital games which might have saved it but we will never know.
This is the perfect time for Nintendo (and Sony) to release a handheld system the size of the New 3DS XL, foldable with 2 screens that can play the same games as the Switch 2. There is no reason this cannot be done. They could package them together and they would sell like hotcakes!!
There are GPD Win 4 and GPD Win Mini for that. Even as a Sony fan I do not see any reason to buy a proprietary handheld anymore instead of UMPC that gives you full control and total freedom unlike Sony or Nintendo handheld. Only if Vita2/PSP2 would be totally compatible with my PSN library (or at least mostly).
There were quite a few good RPGs there too - Tales of Hearts R, Trails of Cold Steel II, Final Fantasy X/X2, Disgaea 4, Atelier Shalie, Persona 4 Golden, Tokyo Xanadu...and more
Sony never really understood what made Nintendo handhelds so successful, two problems that no handheld should have is short battery life and too high a price for the handheld, which are problems that both the PSP and the PS Vita had. You can't always charge your handheld, so a long battery is important, and a handheld is often for people who have less money, so it's a problem if the handheld has about the same price as a home console. It looks like Sony hasn't learned anything, because we know Sony is making a new handheld but from what we know it won't be the next Sony game console because they're still going to make a PS6. they're going to sell a home console and a handheld separately in a post nintendo switch and steam deck era, you don't have to be a genius to understand that's a bad idea
The biggest flaw of the Vita is the bubble user interface. It should have the PSP/PS3 interface. And unfortunally it can't be modded and made like the XMB.

The new 3ds line (+2ds xl) were the perfect handhelds imo, with 2nd stick and more power. So Vita's main strengths were neutralized. Seeing the inflated prices now confirm how good it is
Vita was a great system with no games at all and a horrible memory card. The only game I still own for it because it didn't get ported to another system is Tales of Hearts R :D 3DS is still one of my favorite systems ever, with so many banger games.
It's just not portable anymore. Otherwise you can call 17" laptop a portable handheld too. Somehow a small chinese company managed to fit performance of a Switch in form-factor of 3DS six years ago, but oh-so-mighty Nintendo couldn't.
For a true handle systems 3DS and vita are the last of there kind. Switch is a handle in its own way but not near what they where. Mobile phone games in my eyes are not real handle games. I hope one day we get Nintendo and Sony to revive the handle market. No and no the ps portal is not a thing.
People are really ignoring the hundreds of pocket handhelds theyre making these days. A true handheld is pocketable. Somehow, we forgot about all that with the switch and other similar "handhelds". I still play my psp. It has some of the best games I've ever played. So did ps1 and ps2 but we're talking handhelds here haha.
I grew up with the Gameboy, DS and PSP, but I prefer cell phone gaming, there's so much more you can do with it like play PC games on it, and you can customize the gamepad. Although, I remember the DS being super unique and appealing for its time, local play was great, I liked interacting with the touch screen, and it had actual exclusives which the PSP really lacked. It really was the best handheld before cell phone gaming took off.
@@FranchisePlayyer Handheld gaming consoles were superior up around the start of the 2010s, but there's just nothing unique it offers anymore, and not being able to customize the gamepad is a huge problem. I think handheld gaming computers are the latest best "rival" for cell phone gaming, but I wish the gamepad was customizable like a phone's or The Switch.
Mobile gaming did kill off regular handheld gaming, as the devices you are discussing here were the last two(there were others factors, but mobile was the main one). I don't see Nintendo ever doing a dedicated handheld again, and I don't see Sony going down that road either. There is talks of Microsoft working on a handheld, but if that ever happens, I expect that device to be digital only, so nothing I would see as comparable to past devices and what they represented.
