Probably 60 years ago, I was watching a western on TV when some bullies tried picking on a stranger and he kicked the shit out of everyone using just his feet. I learned then that it was a French form of martial arts, and became interested.
Savate also known as Boxe Francaise is the grandaddy of all modern forms of western kickboxing. Bruce Lee even studied it, along many other forms of martial arts, when he was creating his JKD concept. Nowadays it is not the most trendy I must admit but the style is worth preserving to keep the legacy. It also offers, along its sport aspect, a wide spectrum of technics including le bâton ( staff), la cane (shorter stick), and self defence applications. @@freddmi5212 I think savate is preservd more by JKD because outside of france Savate is rare and mostly the sport version.
My uncle taught me some of this and judo he learned back in Vietnam.
