Bob, Nice video but you remind me of the guy driving on the Rt95 with his foot on his brake pedal. The brake lights blinking on and off for miles. Once you find resonance of the Pi-Network using the Plate TUNE control there is no need to keep readjusting. Resonance doesn't change with loading control adjustments, it changes when the voltage changes, i.e CW or SSB. So, you are just wearing out the tubes with all the extra keydowns. Set the tune, adjust loading, then take load control a bit past peak power output which will reduce output slightly but it will also lower grid current which is what you want to keep the grid happy. 73
Thanks for your comment. I have this amp and everyone tunes this thing different, even the instructions are really foggy and confusing. Your comment makes the most sense. One thing I can't figure out is the instructions say you cant key down with a cw signal in the SSB mode. If that's the case, how are you supposed to see the signal on the meters? I get 900 watts on CW so I really dont get on the SSB side because I'm not sure how to tune it.
Robert, I have a TL-922a and I find if I go over about 25w of drive, my grid current goes up over 300ma and adjusting the load doesn't make it drop. Any ideas as to why that might be happening?

Try adjusting the ALC in the back of the amp.
Why does the amp RF meter not correspond with the external power meter?
The meter shows the grid current on that video. Its a multifunction meter, to show RF it needs to be switched to RF.
i hate to see you guys tuna a amp this way, so hard on the tubes compared to just tune it correct when you first tune.
