The 80s definitely had great drummers. Gospel chops have been around for years, but the 80s drummers stayed locked in with the pocket. There's amazing drummers today that stay locked in with the poocket, but it's a little more of a show with some drummers. My guy here is locked in though. Cheryl Harper from back in the day got busy. She had real foot speed and didn't need to rely on loud crashes to keep time. Dude on this video is a beast though and I'm not referring to him when I say that. He's serving the band and what they're directing him to do. His timing is great.
The drummer on rev paul jones recording "I won't Complain" was locked in with that pocket and ride patterns. The Organ player was a man amongst boys though. What I was most impressed by is that the drummer stayed disciplined with the way the organist was playing. He could have pulled out any chop he wanted and still been in the pocket, but he understood the moment because they were in concert. People sleep on the 80s because they listen to regular church services from back then, rather than everything in concert. My favorite drummers are Aaron Spears, David "Dee" Curry, and Eric Moore. They have chops for days, but stay locked in with the pocket. Their composure and discipline reminds me of the 80s and 90s.
Just sharing you this, as Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." God loves you so much that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross to pay all the sins of the world for us. After 3 days after he died, he rose up from the dead. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior to be saved from sin and have eternal life (John 3:16, Romans 10:9).
How do drummers sit on those seats. I understand it could be ok for men that are not packing but what about those who are. They meat gotta be sore when they stop playing.
