Glenallachie has quickly become one of my all time favourite distilleries. Billy Walker is deliberately not targeting consistency so expect large batch variation. He has also massively extended fermentation times so the output is cut from 4m l/annum to 800k l/annum. Whenever they release something the queues at the distillery are insane. In other words get it while you can!
Glenallachie is a personal favorite of mine. Especially the single barrel picks that are out there. Haven't had the 15 year yet so may check it out now.
Love my 15. Gets better with time. At first I thought I preferred the 12 but side by side the 15 shows its strength and takes it. Much more intense than the 12 for sure.
Hey Peter, solid review here. This is a bottle we have on the shelf and plan to review ourselves. Definitely way sweeter with water/ice than without. Didn't really care for it at the price point to be honest.
The price is definitely a negative. GlenAllachie is a brand that is on the rise. I only saw the 12 in my area last year and now I see at least 6 different offerings from them on the shelf in multiple stores around me. Have fun with the review and good luck with the channel. Cheers!
Great review👍 I have had 3 bottles of this and it gets better with every year. The first I had back in 2019 maybe was borderline terrible but I gave it another shot. For me the reigning king of sherrybombs has been Glendronach 18 but this is the usurper of the throne. The bottle I have now is just all you want when it comes to this kind of whisky. A close second is Edradour caledonia 12
I wonder if these bottles are getting better because of Billy Walker? I would like to get my hands on an older bottle to compare. Or has he always been the master distiller? I'm not sure. By any chance do you know? Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney I think he’s attached to this since it’s been revived. Don’t think anything he’s distilled yet is for sale but he’s probably the blender.
I did a tasting with him at Glenallachie and he said he believes that each batch is "at least 10% better" than the previous one. He qualified better as what he believed was better. He will keep finessing it until he gets as close to his definition of perfection as he can. I love his Sherry cask but I picked up a Port cask today at the distillery and it is something else.
@@whiskeyisajourney yes, my bottle is hot, the taste of the whiskey is strong so far. I am a fan of Glenmorangie, but this one, umm I don’t know what to think of it so far
@@nic1964 I've had a taste from a different bottle and it was viscus and mellow with sherry notes that lasted forever. Way different than the one I have.
@@whiskeyisajourney I totally agree, the whiskey itself has a strong sherry sense, and the finish is strong. This whisky is now sweet, but more like strong and mellow
Love your reviews Peter. Concise and to the point. I share your thoughts on the GlenAllachie 15. It did not live up to the hype. The unsweetened chocolate is overbearing. I found the 12 year old to be a better option. BTW, Athru is a Single Malt, not a Single Pot Still. Stay well 🥃

Billy Walker works his magic everywhere he goes. Glenallachie is up there with me as well. Thanks Pete!

I would be interested to hear how you like/not like it. Drop back in and le me know if you remember. Cheers!

I agree with the intensity. I'm waiting for my bottle to settle down. Still tasting hot.

I loved this one so much i bought a case. I must have this for a long time. I love it without water btw...its a banger for me.
My bottle finally calmed down. It's no longer drinking hot and it's very good.
Just got this one today because I was bored and love to try new ones. Let’s see how it goes 🎉
Let me know if your bottle is hot. Some are some aren't. I'm curious.

Much appreciated as always. 👍
