Lets get into it, no holds barred, full spoiler discussion. Spoilers everywhere. If you haven't seen it yet, get outta here and watch it.
I really hope that Pacific rim: The black gets the recognition it deserves, because its served up two very strong seasons of kaiju mayhem. Perfect? No, but very strong. And in this vid I'm going to discuss the second and last season of Hayley, Taylor, Mei, and their jeager Atlas Destroyer's story, as they try to cross the territory owned by the Kaiju worshiping cultists called the Sisters of the Kaiju.

Season 2 was one hell of a ride, hitting you in feels and taking what you think will something good and flipping it on its head to make you cry even more. Sad to see a show like this end so soon, but maybe there might something more if it does good enough.
Shanes death was the biggest tear jerker in the show for me idk why
absolutely loved Shane's redemption/character arc!
We didn’t get to see Apex’s special talents. All we saw for Apex was a spiky, buffed Jaeger that has laser rift capabilities. We don’t really know what he was capable of doing with this small series. If there is a third one, I hope to see a backstory for Apex.
The way you get attached to a robot, is akin to how tankcrews get attached to their tanks. Decorate them. Give them names. Refuse to abandon them. It's funny how we put personality and soul into objects that dont have any.... or do they?
Well Loa has an actual personality. So it’s a little more understanding when it comes to Atlas. But yeah.
Well we have absolutely zero definitive proof that they have none

I kinda do agree. There was so many deaths. But the mother death was the shocking for me. But at least she died with a happy memory.
I honestly think this show had way too many deaths. There were so many interesting stories that could have been told but instead, they kept going with death for dramatic effect. Does anyone even remember that village they stayed in the first episode? A whole village of people they grew up including what seemed like two very close friends was killed and forgotten almost immediately.

@@yepyep9495 I didnt care for her death tbh, she was saved by Shane (who then dies) just for her to die next episode... makes his sacrifice very much in vain... not to mention her death was avoidable, they let a injured person attack 2 kaiju with a knife instead of giving her the gun..

I hope they start a another series with pacific rim that take place after the black with them explaining all of this

@@grapefruitsimmons doubt it. Netflix really likes that animation style, I’ve seen it on ALOT of their projects for the past years. First time I seen it was with Knights of Sidonia, thought it was weird, but it grew on me.
Don’t think they are continuing after recent Netflix drama
If they do and these characters hopefully return they should do a few things in the next animated show or movie
Show Taylor and Hayley are okay with each other and still work great together

The marshal orders new jaegers to destroy all the surviving kaiju in the canyon
That jackass richter, tries to get revenge on the kids but fails and the kids survive and he gets killed by a kaiju and then the kaiju gets killed by Taylor and Hayley
I really love this series. If Pacific Rim goes completely anime at this point, I'm OK with that. I just hope we get a sequel (or prequel) series to tie up the many unanswered questions this show leaves behind.
Apex death really hit me in the feels man. But he went out saving boy.

@@otonworldproductions I actually talked to David Silva's work partner at a toy show a few weeks ago, he told me the reason NECA stopped doing the Pacific Rim line was because the licensing got too expensive. Basically, they assumed Pacific Rim wasn't really going to amount to anything impactful...until it did. So they could afford to pump out action figures for a few years when they had the license. I was also told that NECA originally wasn't going to make Otachi because it would be too complicated (*sigh* classic Neca excuses), and the only reason they went through with it was because David spent his free time designing and engineering a prototype for it. I knew he had worked with them on it, but I never knew he was the sole reason the Otachi figure was made. NECA just makes SO many questionable selective choices with what figures they make of what characters or creatures. They'll claim something is too complicated or too niche but then pump out all these peg warmers and 50 lost tribe predators that most people either didn't even recognize or missed after blinking, and constantly neglect things their buyer base ACTUALLY wants like the wolf predator. Even with an expensive license they'd still make that money back easy. It still bums me out that they never finished the entire kaiju lineup. And they were so close, they only had Slattern, Raiju and Karloff left I believe.
I refuse to believe there won't be any more Pacific Rim the black, it would be a tragedy

I really like how the little sister is able to guilt trip and bully the others using emotional outbursts.

Well suited. She is a child after all. Very well written plot.
It was really good. I hope that we will get another series with Taylor, Hayley, and Mei.

More of boys origins and If there is others like him
What happened to the Kaiju in the farm area
A slight hint on who would have won between apex vs breacher
More on how the dad couldn’t get back to the kids and perhaps more of a origin story on the sisters
The third season could be about retaking Australia, maybe we get to see a rebuilt and weaponized Atlas

But overall I enjoyed this season alot more than s1 and this show definitely is alot darker than the first movie for in all regards. I would say only 70% of the things I were featured in this show but my only issues are the following. 1. Rickter does nothing. 2. Trespasser does nothing. 3. We don't see mei's memories. Other than those 3 issues my other negatives are small nitpicks I can ignore because of the overwhelming positives i have.
I definitely will rewatch it but.....after the deaths of brina apex and loa....I gotta take some time to become happy enough to watch it again. I still love the show but damn....it got to me emotionally like never before. It's been awhile since any anime did that too much. Last time any anime did that to me was akame ga kill but at least this anime killed off it's characters in less brutal ways in comparison to AGK but that doesn't make their deaths any less sad.
Dude Akama GA Kill put me on an anime hiatus for almost a year. This season though definitely put me in another one

Overall I agree with what you said but I have to say Haley was my least favorite character, Taylor being my favorite. One of my main nitpicks was the whole not seeing Mei's memories, and I seem to have a general annoyance with Haley and how she treated her brother after he had to make that hard decision with giving Boy up. But what really pissed me off was that Haley didn't really get angry with Mei and just forgot that she was absolutely on board with giving Boy up just not in the same way Taylor was. Taylor had to make really difficult decisions and I respect and love him for that but for his sister to criticize him for doing so really pissed me off when I know for a fact she would never be able to make such a difficult decision. Throughout the show she makes weak decisions, and it annoyed me. By the end of the show Taylor kind of just gave her all the credit; I was a little bit agitated for that. Not only that but we never really get to see them make up and apologize to one another we just get a 2 second clip of Taylor telling Haley she was right all along. Nitpick number two was they never went in-depth with where Boy came from and why he was there. All we got was "Oh we just found them in the desert" smh would be really cool if we got more details, but I can't shit on Haley forever Mei annoyed me with her general attitude as well.
So overall it was a good watch albeit a little disappointing. But I liked that season 2 was definitely darker than season 1. But it sucks that this is the final season I would have liked to see more details and how they all get closer as a family. Particularly Taylor and Mei, because Mei and Haley basically became sisters.
If I gotta be honest the final fight was emotional for me. I don't think the point of the final fight was meant to be equivalent to s1 ep7 where it's a legitimate fight with 2 parties trying their best to come out victorious. This fight is meant to show how much of a threat the breacher is since it's a cat 6 kaiju and obviously a kaiju of that category wouldn't be a pushover or a equal to any jaeger. Even a cat 5 would be too much for atlas to handle alone.
Overall the fight was equivalent to mechagodzilla beating down godzilla in gvk. It's a emotional experience that's meant to display the "all hope is lost" moment which ironically the series itself already had alot of those moments but same can be said for the comics and the movies themselves. For that reason I personally had no issues with this "fight" if you wanna call it that. It was one sided from the start and I think the writers wanted to have atlas be destroyed in the same vain as danger and avenger in order to kill the main threat.
It would be cool if bandi or neca made figures from the show like a figure of hunter vertigo,zeous, striker berserker ,apex,breacheer, acid quil and the eel monsters and maybe remakes of the past kaiju like trespasser, otachi and skunner and maybe they could make a meridian city kaiju and copper head. They could make a whole toy line out of the kaiju and jeagers

The scene that got me crying was the scene of Taylor and his mom in the hospital with baby Hailey
Bro, I wish this series went out for like 4-5 seasons ish. My personal favorite idea would have been how atlas destroyer over time starts losing it parts and maybe add on part from like jaegers that are destroyed, like the arm. It would have been cool if they took one of hunter vertigo’s shoulder freeze blasters I think, and maybe as series progress we see atlas destroyer looks less of a trainer jaeger and more like a jaeger that came out of apocalypse. I don’t know if you get the idea what I am tryin say.

I definitely do love my mech vs Kaiju combat scenes but I also love characters I can grow feelings for and this season had many many feelings. It almost felt like the character development season but it also went by a bit too fast. It almost felt like this season was just meant to end the “getting to Sydney base” storyline so they could move on to other stuff and I think it was done pretty well all things considered. Definitely added a whole lot more questions too lol. My worry is that, because it ended with such simple explanations to certain major questions, the studio wasn’t sure if they were going to get to make another season so they tried to wrap up as much as they could now. Hoping for another season and hopefully it doesn’t take as long to come out as s2
I also want to add that I appreciate different seasons feeling different from previous seasons. Sometimes it’s good to just want more of something but I always appreciate a change in direction as long as it’s done well
It would be crazy if the head sister was boy's mother and she have been trying to find him but fell into kaiju blood. Messing with her mind and body as she forgot about her son and started a new family out of the people who was lost and needed someone to look up to but something, someone was pushing her forward. The day she found her son, I fell like this could have been a well written character and someone we could have related to
Loa kinda might be saved, like Altas wasn’t turned into dust, some stuff might be still operational.
Real a damn shame this series had to be canned when it barely got a chance to start. The animation and camera work are superb for a 3D series and despite being anime inspired the voice direction is very surprisingly grounded with a great script and good characters. Hate to see it go like this but Man was it a fun ride and it had at least a decent finale all things considered.
The season was rushed, apex and Shane could have added very interesting characters that could provide enough content to expand the black, my only hope is Spyder, the only character that has a door to a good season rn. The first season made the impression that the black was composed of many factions which would be explored in other seasons, but with the kids reaching their goal of finding their parents it kinda makes it irrelevant, now more that they reached a functional base. I would've prefer apex to live but to just give boy his memories back and keep walking like nothing happened, it would make him more mysterious. Like atlas destroyer, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of hidden bases with a Jaeger or two, that would be nice to explore. Shane's ability to use drift to find stuff was also a very interesting skill, Spyder and mei said he was the best at that, if I'm not mistaken.
Tl:Dr it was a rushed season they cut off potential material that could give more content in future seasons or shows.
holy christ, i just got through watching this season and it was heart rending at times
Can some one agree with me on this? The story was great, right? but they made it short which was so annoying and frustrating because we want more. If there were 7 episodes more explaining what comes after and just a lot of explanation regarding the plot holes they could've had made this better .
Honestly the series is very good and I don't know why but i feel like hailey, taylor, mei and boy will come back I don't know why but reading back at Greg Johnson's interview there could be more of people who are similar tp boy and the four will probably appear in some future installment but It's just me wanting them to come back in some way because i really love these characters. Also I kinda ship Mei and Taylor and to be honest i though they would fall in love by the end of the series.
Honestly, I agree. Throughout the season, the team was hit with tragedy after tragedy, making the audience long for that episode where they finally have a moment of victory/celebration. They even teased it with the vision Hayley gave Brina before she died. But the ending just seemed lackluster, and the plot after their escape from the black could have been expounded more me thinks.
@@jeff4762 Yeah i kinda agree their were some plot holes in the story that felt rushed but hey it's a good ending for me I just feel like after the black they might return somehow since in Greg Johnson's interview he sorta stated that there could be more of boys kind but that's just me wanting them to come back.

I don't know man... The moment I realized Brina wouldn't make it a hole was torn in my heart and I dropped the show. Just finished the rest yesterday.
This season is great overall but THE FAMILY DESERVES A FULL REUNION after what each of them went through. Not to mention that Shane sacrificed himself to save Brina and it's now all wasted. I can't comprehend why did the writers sentence her to death.

Atlas Destroyer's... destroyed body would make for a beautiful wallpaper. I don't know why, but that was my first thought.
Describing atlas destroyer as the worst jaeger is true but it did have all of it weapons removed with it being just for training
but I liked that atlas is not a walking arsenal like the other jaegers as it gave the show a proper them against the world vibe I mean sure they have this huge jaeger but It had no weapons and only one of are heroes had any experience with piloting and they had no real way of properly repairing it so if atlas took to much damage there was no way they where going to make it out of the black alive which I think really added to the story
I was so annoyed of Haley. She did not give a crap about their life or her mother's. Just wanted to risk it all to save boy. Like ugh
And she kinda killed an entire village in season 1

I would trade Haley for Apex, her mom, and loa any day. Though this does show us that you should never have a child like Haley run wild. They could have avoided their mom's death if they chose to return to Australia or at least have spider inform the rest of Shane's group to form a rescue OP. Mei would probably inherently become the leader setting up season 3 in a way.
Taylor's patience was the real protagonist 😂😂
It'd make sense to follow this up with a game. The 3d art style would translate great to a game, and the jaegars having universal limbs would be a great mechanic for customizing your mech.
Atlas death hurt so much watching the jeager we followed threw out the series be beat to a pulp and then become one of the jeager remains we’ve seen throughout the series made me cry
Now this does rise an interesting question will the movies themselves touch on what happened in the anime or will it just continue from where it left off in the last movie
Are we even getting another movie? And most importantly, does Guillermo del Toro have anything to do with it?
I think we can all agree that the battle between Atlas and the two Hybrid Kaiju was the best fight this season
Man I luv the series. I seen the movies too. I very interested if they continue it. Cuz sure they made it to the Jaegar control base, found their dad. But wat next? Does Mei stay with them? Do they adopt Boy or something? Do they reveal Boy's past on the entire experiment of being locked in the recruitment center evr? Come on, I really want to know instead of guessing. Do they explain about the prophecy thing of Boy being a Messiah?
It was apex for me, literally screamed at the t.v and ngl I think apex is cooler then boy, sad to see him die like that, but maybe he isn't fully dead, maybe he can be brought back, surely hope he does because that'd be nice

The only thing I've had of note on the sisters is how much it made my blood boil everytime I saw them after brina's death in a vulnerable position chanting. Like, They're literally within a glance of Taylor in the Atlas and I'm surprised Taylor didn't think like, " These cnts are the reason my mother died" and just chain saber'd them to death but, then again there's boy going berserk and apex getting rocked to death but yeah...... Surprised there was no impulsive reaction from him or Haley in that regards given their antics in the previous episodes.
The only thing that I was Sade about was Apex dieting :(
That messed up day did Apex messed up he should have had more time than that and it's messed up how he died to he was such a good character you know every man can cry and I'm a man and I'm crying a lot 😢
Really love this anime both season 1 and 2, did watched both seasons with Japanese audio and English subtitle, so much better and it feels right since it’s anime 🙂🙂

The father is the worse character of all... Not to said he didn't went back for his wife who might be dead, but this doesn't explain why he won't risk everything to get back to his kids.
Hope they will be more for this series... Either in novel or comic form.
He literally said the pddc wouldn't allow him back into the black to go get his family.....how is he bad when the odds of him trying to find his family were slim to none.
@@Kaiju-bm4ts knowing your loves one out there and with the burden of your wife sacrificing herself for u to survive ... I would do everything to get back to the kids. Just imagine from the perspective of any father facing this sort of odds.
@@CYLok Last time i checked the Australian continent was overrun with kaiju of all sizes and s1 showed us how dangerous it is to even enter a abandoned city for that matter. There's a difference between love and logic. While love is powerful there is absolutely nothing you can do when logic tells you you won't live to see your loved ones if you do something stupid.

They didn't show what happen to herc Hanson. Maybe they could make a comic book about the aftermath of the black and what happend to herc. Maybe the sisters caught him and killed him maybe.

Indeed they need more episodes, this running and gunning style works for a bit, but gets old and leaves you lil room to let things breath. Alot of these sad moment you don't really get to live in as much as I think you should before you onto the next thing. There is a time and place for that, but there there is also a time to let a scene drag out. The Brina's death. OMG like you my defenses were down and I did not see it coming.
I lost my mother rather abruptly and unexpectedly so I know the pain that these kids are going through. A Silver lining for the kids they got to say goodbye. that was a luxury i was not afforded.
But yes, 2 or 3 more episodes at a bare minimum. Answer the questions that need answering, and let moments linger. God Brina's death really caught me off guard. Straight up i cried, and I normally have pretty good defenses.... And that send off pffeww *breaths* that was beautiful, and once you realize what is happening it hits you hard in the gut.
Easter egg: you can See Breacher lying down in the hydrogen Bomb Crater You see that he is Just dead lying in the Crater The Crater must be 900 Meters Deep And 2 km Wide i think.
I just wanna know what was on the drive mei was given I would like to know if she actually looked through those memories because I don't remember her ever opening up that drive
I wish we saw the tape of Mei's memories that Shane gave to her when he died...Like we only saw 2-3 flashbacks
My main issue with season 2 wasn’t about the content of the season itself but rather how they decided to quickly end a series with too many questions unanswered.
Blame Netflix for that.

The Brina plot twist at the end completely devastated me. I legit thought they made it to Syndney base and that's where the final act would take place.
Same. I was like, "oh, they made it to the base. That was fast." I totally thought they were going to defend the base from a Kaiju attack in the finale.
I would give s1 8/10

I love how Loa (Atlas destroyer’s AI) had a mind of her own and her own personality, I wish we got to see that with the PR 1 jaegers

I didn't expect Shane to die and the fake out mother drift actually surprised and got me. While this season felt fairly quick in terms of events it was still pretty good. Before watching I would've said there could've been a third season, but I really don't think it needs it as the story is in a pretty neat bow. I don't really know what a third season would entail

Have you guys noticed that when atlas was getting chase by Kaiju he went inside the canyon and saw a bunch of Jaegers and then tripped the alarm and showed some Jaegers making noises and showed a blue version of coyote tango I was so surprised now are they making newer versions of old Jaegers like striker berserker
Apex would body preacher. Hes ridiculously fast compared to every other Kaiju in the show. Even boy.
Man i just got done watchin it and danm this is the best season so far so emotional and full of drama and fights and how loa sacreficed her self was it that really made me cry same with Shane and Brina too
I agree, I also feel as if it was rushed. However, I personally felt that the writers were trying to kill off characters as soon as possible, like for example, Brina, I personally think that she didn’t need to die for the story to progress since a sacrifice was already made by a parental figure, Shane, and the fact that show wants us to keep feeling emotional over deaths just felt unnecessary, these characters had so much more potential especially the sisters. The sisters were mysterious and I was genuinely interested in how their somewhat ‘hive’ network between the sisters actually works. However they were killed off before we got to understand them, as we knew they wanted a messiah, but we never knew their motivations(I mean yes they want the fall of humanity but it looks like they were originally human so like why). Lastly, Apex seemed a little weak compared to jaegers in the movies as a few punches took it down.
My conclusion: WTF bro ;-;

I wasn't really surprised with Shane's Death TBH - I couldn't think of anything else they could have done with his character, since continuing to be the guy who wanted to 'steal the jaeger,' or 'get mei back' had already been done in season one

The fact that the cat 4 in the original movie didnt die when hit by a fu**ing nuclear bomb and the breacher died of a training mech detonation is unsetling

Season 2 had a lot of really interesting ideas but it all felt very rushed. Nothing is given enough time to develop so the big impacts could hit much harder
the use and abuse of Acid Quill is a very large part of why i hate it as a kaiju. we could have seen more classic movie kaiju that were detailed down for the show, but no... they want to keep sending in Acid Quill after Acid Quill after Acid Quill.

Cried hard when Atlas Destroyer I loved that jeager just as Gipsy Danger they look similar and are both mark 3 jeagers and god Altas was durable as fuck
Atlas destroyer being destroyed by the breacher broke my heart and loa sacrifice ended shattering my heart how the fuck an anime made me feeling sad with a jeager and an AI death atlas destroyers isnt even close to a strong jeager but the journey made me also get attached to atlas destroyer he became one of my favorite jeagers along with apex and hunter

They should at least make an animated movie to wrap up a few things, plus have a few things happen that should be done like Hayley and Taylor work together in a new jaeger and are better and forgive each other for everything they been through and Taylor bonds more with boy, also the marshal gets some jaegers to take out all the remaining kaijus in the canyon and maybe richter tries to get revenge on Taylor and Hayley but he fails and gets killed by Mei or a kaiju

To me the most surprising part was the fact that the mother was alive and got captured and turned evil and was a part of the cult trying to kill them to me that was the biggest shocker in the entire series and I really wanted her to stay alive and make it but sadly the producers decided something else….🥲 so sad 😞

I realy disliked the mom's death. Like she was in so few episodes that her involvement almost seemed pointless. Like there's so much they could have done with her character in a possible 3rd season. Like the high priestess could have possessed her as she died and in S3 she could make her make the base vulnerable to an attack, turning the place of absolute safety into the most dangerous place they could be.
I just finished it and my heart is broken. I want more. 😭😭😭

Honestly we should have gotten more upgrades for atlas cuz I thought of an episode where they find another jaeger graveyard where they find atlases weapons and find a sword weapon cuz if atlas got more weapons then that would have made it a lot better in the final battle also I do want to see more of boy

My issue is that Apex didn't really get to do much and that Breacher died from a nuke. When slattern was weaken,but still very much alive,after being nuked by Strider Eureka. I know that the categories doesn't necessarily equate to combat strength but it just didn't feel as menacing as Slattern,yeah sure it did gave Altas one hell of a beatdown but then it just went out anticlimactically after being disintegrated by a nuke. It just doesn't have the final boss feeling that Slattern had in the first movie (TBF,slattern was the only category V or stronger Kaiju that felt really menacing and had managed to leave a lasting impression even after its death)
You know what makes me think of this Pacific Rim series? The Tales of Arcadia from Dreamworks, where all of its series will connect into one franchise at the end.
Odd to see this Pacific Rim story to be a short one. But I get the feeling that this is just the beginning of the Pacific Rim series.
The progress of the Coastal Walls. The messiah/s of the Kaijus (Taylor may not be the only one there). The origins of the Ghost Pilots.
I know there are so many plotholes here. But this series may be a start of connecting to other stories of Pacific Rim. Let's just give it time.

I believe there will be a continuation with a new title because they are no longer in the black or a spin-off about Cory or a new characters perspective. Cory is still out there, What happened to Herc? Who is Ferno? Wat will happen to Bogan? And don’t forget Mei’s memories
