SORRY! We totally missed a crucial part: STEP 4 - Cut out the Skyline YOU’LL FIND IT HERE: stefankunz.com/blog/2020/8/27/procreate-magic-trick-ipad-lettering-tutorial
Hi Stefan! This is Valentina from Italy! I discovered amazing tricks in this video, but I’m still blocked in cutting skyline step! Steps are: select the skyline layer drawned, now select the downloaded image layer and copy&past. Correct? Probably not, because it becomes all black :-(
go to layers. Tap on the layer shape, choose select. Then tap on the image layer. Hold the selection button to bring back up the menu and tap copy and paste
Thank you Stefan! I cannot wait to try this...this is one of my favorite 'tricks' that you do! You have stepped up your video skillzzz--well done!!! I LOVE the intro!!!
Love the video! But I think there’s one crucial step missing after tracing out the layer and before adding shadows. I can see myself trying to just trace out the buildings, duplicating the original photo then adding a clipping mask above the traced layer and then cleaning it up to separate the foreground from the background to achieve the overall effect
Hey stefan, I'm kinda confused... I kept repeating the part where you say... to "trace objects to separate from background." I don't get how to.. use the object (RED TRACED BUILDINGS) then SELECT it inorder to use it as REFERENCE to original image? How do you do that? I kinda figured out on my own how to do it... altho the process I've done is.. long or rigorous. Can anyone chat here what is/ HOW.. to do it? I would like to learn please..
Same - is there a missing step? I think maybe the red traced building should somehow become a copy from the background? Or there should be a way of the red traced block then covers the letters? I ended up duplicating the background and putting it above the red block, then set the bg to clip mask the red block 😂
@@jethrolismano9034 I figured it out from just playing with it. So you know that TRACED layer? place that on the top of the BACKGROUND (original photo make sure its just a COPY) then on the TRACED LAYER tap on that and make it a CLIPPING MASK.then merge that layer with the BACKGROUND. and that should do that trick! ya welcome :D
Here’s the text description: Now that we have pretty good shape, I’ll Tap on the layer and tap select. This will select the surface of the shape we just filled out. Symmetry line.jpeg Now tap on the layer with the image. press and hold select to bring back the selection menu and tap on “copy&paste”. This will create a new layer with the selected buildings
@@StefanKunz OHHHH! that was WAY easier! THANK YOU Stefan! that really helped! I've learned something NEW here from the select tool I had no clue that you can do that! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I am super lost at the step 4 despite going to the link you gave with the correction. I cannot connect how the red outline of the image then cuts out from the image??!!

hi Stefan, it's Rick from Taiwan! always follow your channel to gain the creative thoughts, it's great wanna ask you where the skyline cutout from? when I write the letter, the word can't behind the front objectives, not sure the problem is due to skyline cutout. thank you!
Oh snap this is super great! Getting a little lost with cutting out the skyline even though you just did (and answered someone else's question down below). But maybe do a separate video on that! We're from Raleigh, NC!
@@StefanKunz Nice! We have lots of friends in Charlotte! And I'm sure your answer is spot on, just haven't tried that method of layer masking yet and it was a little quick haha kind of like it "magically" happened! Usually use photoshop to intertwine between layers a little faster, but it looks like this method is also fast once I get the hand of it!

You can also use the layer masks to make the letters go in front of behind objects.
Who warmed up their fingers?
Stefan Kunz Never thought of this
The intro and the outro 😂 I love your humor! You make me laugh everytime.
nice Video. I do have a question though. How do you cut out the skyline after you filled out the shapes?
go to layers. Tap on the layer shape, choose select. Then tap on the image layer. Hold the selection button to bring back up the menu and tap copy and paste
@@StefanKunz I semi-understand this lol. Just need to go back and watch you do it a bunch.
@Stefan Kunz I love the Video, but still stuck on the copy and paste step! where and how to paste?
