- In 2020, we were able to secure a small e-mail interview with Ashif Hakik, the composer of Tomba 2.
In 2021, Ashif would pass away. We've been sitting on this project for quite some time now, but figured we'd complete it finally after all this time. Originally intended as just a curious interview, it transformed into this small tribute video detailing the story, the interview (coincidentally, perhaps his very last one), and the man himself.

Tomba 2 ost will always be in our Tomba fan's hearts!
So this is who we have to thank for Tomba 2's OST being good - as opposed to Tomba The Wild Adventures's OST.
I really can't think of a single composer, ESPECAILLY for video games that played with time signatures like he did
I don't think we'll ever get anyone like him but there's always his legacy to inspire future composers
I wish I could've asked him about laughing crying forest. That song got me into complex time signatures all on its own. Conversation & Events is complex on it's own bouncing between 7/8 and 8/8 is crazy but I've always come back to Laughing Crying Forest that goes from 7/8 to 8/8 to 9/8 to 8/8 it give it such an uneasy feeling in a way no other piece of music has ever gotten me to feel, which is perfect for the area its in of course. Haunting and confusing, it feels like you're getting lost in the hedge maze that is this mystical forest of a song.
Ashif you will be missed,
But not forgotten.
a man will die, but not his idea
RIP Ashif 😢
legend. this is a really beautiful tribute
Did we get the 44.1 KHz versions of Tomba 2's ost?
Unfortunately I don't believe we did :C
How did you get Sam Lake to lead the interview?
Is that good? 😅
RIP legend
What’s the music at the end called
It's a cover of the menu theme of Final Fantasy Adventure, using instruments of tomba 2 and the melody of the Fishermen Village from Tomba 2 on the chorus.
It's a song I always thought is very emotional, and when Ash said he had big influences from FF music I had that idea
How did he die?
Heart attack :c
A phenomenal video game music composer who sadly passed away too soon.
R.I.P. Ashif Hakik (1974 - 2021)
Very nice tribute to Ashif, nice work. It's fascinating to hear about composers from this era of game dev who sort of rolled into game composing as musicians. He had some pretty big scalps on his game dev CV. RIP.
Thanks for the interview, it was very interesting!
R.I.P Ashif
I miss him :,<
RIP
Que también van a remasterizar Tomba 2!!
Omg…RIP
Ashif Hakik was (AND STILL IS! HIS LEGEND WILL LIVE ON!) amazing. And to think that this was his first project!
...if anyone of you haven't listen to it... Fantavision soundtrack is outstanding. Guy was a true talent.
Thank you for this, Tomba Club. You're on a roll lately.
legend
This was a great watch and nice to get some insight on his work. I recall seeing the news of his passing pretty much right as I had gotten into the video editing portion of my Tombi 2 video. Only felt right to have a tribute to him considering how many times I stopped to discuss all the great tunes in that game. RIP man.
That dude was my musical hero
Same!
