Hi Bill! I live in Minnesota (zone 4b) & have always grown a few tropicals, mostly Cannas & Colocasias. Since discovering your channel I've been inspired to expand my tropical horizons. I have a large, sparsely landscaped yard & tropicals are just what it needs. At the moment I have 10 Abyssinian Red Bananas & my 1st Thai Giant under lights in my grow space, along with the usual array of Colocasias, Cannas, Castors (I'm lucky to have a lot of space for over wintering!) & various annuals started from seed. I have learned SO much from your videos and you've given me the confidence to try new plants. I'm super excited for Spring & can't wait to see how everything grows. Thanks for sharing so much information with us, I really enjoy your videos!
This Makes me so happy! I'm so glad you are trying new things... plants shouldn't be scary :) and for us in colder climates, it's so nice to add the lush feel of the Tropics :)

just bought and arrived from euro bulbs Arisaema sikokianum and Arisaema candidissimum bulbs to me in Ireland zone 9a.have no idea about planting time in Ireland for them.I am subscriber of yours so can you give me advice do I plant them in the ground and can I plant them now?Thank you.
Hi Bill. That's great you found those. I know those bags from the garden centers are hit or miss. They are dead by the time you buy them. Had that happen with some bleeding hearts. But those look good especially the white one. Jack In The Pulpit is an aroid like Amorphophallus. Same care other than it can take the cold. You're doing it right and if you plant deeper it's ok they are a tall plant and will still come out. Might be a year or more before you get a flower. Never heard them called "cobra plant". It's a selling tactic. How are your lotus doing? I am getting a mini one for the first time. I'm excited and don't know what I'm doing. Ha so different from the other stuff I grow.
excellent video my friend. Can you make a video on plant pests/insects that ruin and/or kill my hibiscus and coleus ? there are 2: one makes hundreds of tiny black granuals (not spots) and a clear sticky substance, but it does not seem to be deadly and is only on the hibiscus. The real killer that destroys both the coleus and hibiscus has a white residue like liquid marshmallow. I've tried 2 kinds of insect sprays and neither really works. :( I live in Florida, if that has anything to do with it. thank you.
The Tiny black granuals sound like Spider poop. Not sure what would leave a white residue with that consistency... mealies would look like while fluff... in my area we get spittle bugs that make a bubbly white mass that looks like icky spit... you have different pests that I might not be aware of. the cold here kills off a lot.
Hi Bill, Not sure if I missed you saying this....once you plant these outside, are you going to leave them in the ground permanently or are you going to dig up the bulbs/bring the plants in for the winter?
I had the most stressful day, and then I saw your vid and it took me to a happy place. (Ps. My mum thinks I need to get rid of plants because I have too many. Irritates me to no end)
"giant", heh. just take a look at arisaema tortuosum. when i first saw one of those i thought it was some amorphophallus, the inflorescense was like 2m tall. i bought one this spring. i just couldn't not get it.
Great video. I am wondering how you get to know about such unique plants. Looks like you are an encyclopaedia of plants. I do not have problem with deers but I have problem with pigeons. They eat my plant leaves and all my three plants in containers just perished in a months' time. Hence I cannot keep any planters on my window sill. It is a nuisance. Do you have any idea how to tackle the pigeons?
I went to school to study plants. that's where the base knowledge comes from... but the real knowledge comes from many years growing all sorts of weird and wonderful things... as for your pigeon.... there are bird spikes you can buy that stop them from lading on things... they might help... they come in metal and plastic.

Once you plant them in the garden... you Need to buy a rubber Cobra to mark the spot {eg}

I'm in Florida and neem is probably the best you can use but not in the sunshine. I spray about every three weeks. Best of luck 😀
