I can't understand for the life of me, that people who take wing views only ..then name their video the 'Syrian A340? There's only a wing & two engines - that's it!
    No aircraft anywhere!
Not a single decent Syrian A340 (and they have two aircraft now) in the year 2020, totally mind blowing! Do you see my video featured next this 'the Syrian 747SP'? That's how you shoot and advertise what you title claims. Even when no good shot is available, a decent shot 'of the airplane' can be taken before boarding (easiest) or after deplaning (hardest). Guys, wake up and shoot video of this plane before it is flown to the scrap yard.

@@mozesas in case you missed my point, he could have taken video of the plane before boarding or after he got off...then we would be looking at the plane itself...instead of a wing and engines. Search it ..there are no decent videos of a Syrian A340.

The Middle East in general didn't have a Plane Spotting community until the last few years with the rise of TH-cam and smartphones. Previously you could be arrested for taking photos or videos of airplanes, particularly if it is clear that you are focusing on the airplanes and the airport without anyone being in the photos/videos and you would end up in prison being accused of all sorts of things. It doesn't help that Syria, like many countries in the region, considers civil airports as part of its security apparatus which could be transferred to military basis when needed. I think you can get a good idea about the attitude from watching some Western aviation geeks shooting videos in Russia and how they are often approached by the police to have a word. That would be ten times worse for a local doing that in Syria if the policeman/security agent wants to be difficult or is looking for trouble. So that culture simply doesn't exist and people tend to only take brief videos of take off and landing which everyone seems to understand is the exciting bit, but they are less willing to stand out taking photos around the airport.
I think a westerner got into trouble in Dubai a few years back for shooting take off and landing at Dubai airport from an opening outside the airport. The UAE is way more advanced and open and still are not happy for people to do that all the time. Sometimes, it is just unlucky that you catch the attention of the wrong security guy, but who would want to risk loosing their job or worse for the sake of a few pictures of an aircraft when you don't have a powerful government protecting you?

@@RamiTeen Oh yes, cameras basically banned everywhere in the Arab world during the time you speak of. And that is sooo tragic aviation wise. I'm spend a lot of time searching news stories from the 1960s to the 1990s - worldwide. And Middle East is the impossible because virtually no 'news broadcast' exist. Western media did a decent job of covering Mid East news stories by nowhere near as detailed as other areas of the world. I saw some rare but very very short glimpses of things like a RAM 707 on a state visit to Moscow and more, But very frustrating! All historical events should be recorded! BTW Chicago O'Hare arrested plane spotters too unti 1990s.l
