Although I didn't manage to achieve a job related to concept art, I still fondly and lovingly recall when I used to watch the videos 10 years ago. They were always a source of motivation for me, and the values they conveyed are applicable to all aspects of life. I will always remember Feng Zhu as one of the mentors who have contributed to making me who I am today.
Seeing the latest comments, I would love for him to upload one last video to bring an end to this beautiful journey. Thank you for everything you've done.
    With love from Spain.

This made me tear up a bit. The pandemic made me quit school and decided to learn art more seriously. He's one of my go to teacher, almost like an art parent. Everytime a new vid comes out I'm very glad because I know it will be high quality learning. Now almost three years has passed, and I fondly recall those times when I'm passionately learning art with youtube teachers like Trent Kaniuga, Adam Duff, Moderndayjames, Feng Zhu, etc. But things has changed a lot ever since. Still, I'm very grateful to them.

Fzd school will be closing down soon some people say feng saw the ai outbreak heavily decline the amount of students and that was a critical blow after a pandemic and the recession plus steep korean laws basically caused him to decide to close down. This industry was already dead and with stable diffusion its been absolutely destroyed. Even top studios are letting entire art departments go. The advice, and motivation you have given me since 2012-to now from books to study schedule and approach. Has completely changed my life and approach to what’s possible in an artist life. I would have never made it to this stage and perspective without your help. I thought I would have to move to Singapore to learn all this , but you were able to show me what I need through this platform so thank you. I don’t care how often you post. I am curious on what he will have to say about the crazy progress AI has made in literally just the two years between this video and now.
He always said "If there was a make art button we would be teaching that" well, there kinda is now. Obviously it can't replace an artist, not even close in it's current state; but I wonder if they are going to be implementing things with it in their school process, what his thoughts on it are.....will be an interesting that's for sure.

I miss the times that passed a decade ago. Feng Zhu was so popular among us art students in the town I live. I couldnt even handle the wacom pen and I was full of enthusiasm. Nowadays its just get paid, get paid, draw some fantasy bullshit, get paid. Fuck that life, its lonely.
Recently I broke my old wacom pen and decided to buy a new tablet. Everyone who has wacom knows the distinct wacom brand new smell. That smell brought me back 10 years ago while I was unpackaging. It brought me back to the day I had my first one delivered. Made me cry.
And by the way, I hate that fucking illustrator job. Thank god I didnt attempt to become a concept artist. These jobs are a lonely hell.

I made a mistake by not being disciplined over 10 years ago and it took me until now to finally learn art. It's so insane that AI is here to ruin everything. I relate you unpackaging your first wacom tablet. I got my first one when I turned 20 and I regret not having mastered it there. The golden age of digital art was truly 10+ years ago and I envy those that had passion for it back then. It must have been cool to spend a day on a piece to have people respond to it. Now you spend 12+ hours on a piece just for the "wow" factor to have been ruined by AI. I have no choice but to work with AI and become a project creator, which was always the goal, but it feels more depressing now.

You are already doing most everything in one to three takes so its a solid idea. You solved my beginning design problems witht his and EP 104 mainly. I would get stuck with the most basic square room looking stiff and boring and then quit. I got stuck again this time and stated adding regular common things in there. Some lights here, some food there, some window there. Then it just started some type of snowball effect.
I was one of those ignorant beginners who wanted to make an alien world before even knowing how to make a normal world. I didn't have a process/workflow to build on now I do.
My goal: Earth in the future. Where we live in the skies hovering over the surface barely going down to it and letting other life evolve. Of course, most human descendants (In 1000 years, humans as we know it won't exist. Only descendants and history. ) have left the planet so it's more of a research and preservation hub. Maybe even a vacation hub.
The story would be about life evolving again on the planet having the equivalent of human intelligence. This is to keep reference to the human. Like when we draw humans in a painting. I tried making a story with 2 out of reference aliens and I realized only I knew what I wrote. Luckily, I am in no rush and the story and art is something I am building up so that I have something to do in retirement.

Chicken ! I always thought people were just drawing from insane amount of training, 100% muscle memory, that way of breaking down the process, having layers of logical thinking, it's mind opening, it's not random details, I like that. Really breaking down the process in everything we do in life to make things more simpler is the key :)
So from what I saw there is " no design" design, which is placing things in an environment and "design" where you do weird shapes on a single props for example, it's two different things? Is that the Form over function and vice versa? One is keeping the original form and design is to place them in your own world and the other is to change the property of the item and the design challenge is then to keep the function readable while making something new? Thinking about the whole scene vs thinking about the tiny details?
I'll definitely try that 8 steps to break down what I do next, thanks !
