Two part mold making can be a challenge for monster makers! Looking forward to seeing what kinds of monster gloves, props, and masks people make with these tutorials!
I`m 40 and if youtube and your video was existing when i was 14....gosh ! all my life would be completly different.. thank you so much for works ( art/channel/video) I wish you a long and prosper life.
I will never sculpt anything. I will never make a mold of anything. Here I am, after almost 2 hours, simply because I like watching you do what you do. Thanks for the videos and all the hard work.
Exactly the video i've been looking for. All advice i'd been given through other forums was to NOT use two piece plaster for hands. I did one 12 years ago and it worked great (but i cast my own arm directly into plaster, i know, bad idea but it worked luckily). These work great for a cheap reusable gelatin mold. Thank you so much for this and all your videos.
My man ,you rock!. this is straight up basic, hard work ,old school style. : D .I am about your age , and was taught the trade by dentists ,a taxidermy guy ,a cosmortitian ,and a sculptor that ran his metal molds. As a kid ,i studied b/w photo with a magnifying glass. Thanks for showing us this stuff. It has to stay relivent in a age of silicone's/&resin shells , THIS is where it started, based on old jewelers lost wax style.
as lenghty as awesome! jokes aside though awesome work and if anyone is intrested know that this kind of mold can also be used for casting silicones, you don't always need an expensive hard resin mold for those. (i learned about plaster molds from distortion's older videos but it was nice to look at an updated version and see what was different)
I've been interested in trying mask making for years and have a lot of experience sculpting. I've been watching these vids like crazy this weekend building up ideas where to start. Thanks so much for taking the time to post these and show us how it's done PS I always get a hankering for cake when you make the plaster casts 😋
Epic video Ed! Your information and advice provides an artist's education second to none. Currently working on my first mask sculpture but opted for monster clay since I'm a slow beginner and didn't want wed clay to dry out. Will eventually try wed clay as I get more practice. Making a 3/4-full mask. Figured I should play it safe and make it a two part mold although I'm tempted to see if I could get away with a one piece. Anyway, really appreciate your videos. The world needs more people like you. Kind and sharing their wisdom. The passion and generosity of your videos momentarily quell my doubts and negative thinking and bring me some level of peace and joy. Thank you Ed. Wish I had someone like you to look up to growing up.
Ha! Well thank! Ed has lots of practice as do our mold makers Mondo and Mon. Still there are challenges at times even after all these years of doing it.
Hope you enjoy this video! If you still need to sculpt your monster hand gloves check out our previous Monster Lab #25 th-cam.com/video/Eje_1q7tnj8/w-d-xo.html
Hay Ed, just for posterity sake I'd love it if you could do a documentary series on old monsters, monster movies, monster TV shows, fary tales or old folk tales where the original monsters come from😁 you could just read from a script and people could edit later 💚🇮🇪 I'd just love to see a hole series like that, much like your interview ones but longer. If you don't think it would be popular just ask your fan base💚💚💚💚god bless and keep safe💚💚💚💚🇮🇪🇺🇸
Do you have experience with rooting hair? I’ve seen how you guys do it with glue, just curious if you could possibly demonstrate that particular technique/ different ways to do hair? Awesome video btw!
Thanks for this video series! I’m confused about one thing. The last video left off with the clay sculpt and this video starts with the hands being a brown/red color. Did you put something over the clay hands before adding the dam?
I wonder if I can do this for sculptures? Two part silicone is a bit pricey, and I can't work with water based clay indoors(outdoors either) due to poor ventilation so I'm looking for alternatives to make something permanent after using something like monster clay to sculpt but need a cheap one time mold application.
Now, are there alternatives to hemp one can use, that will still allow the liquid latex to evaporate correctly? Like plaster "bandages", for example? Or is it better to just go without completely, if the hemp isn't available?
Question:...is there a way to make a silicone and foam mold from the Ultracal to make a master copy in case the mold breaks? I may have that issue and want to head it off before it happens
I'm a costume maker and have won 1st place almost every year . .lost 2 time 2nd place once and disqualified once . . that was complete b.s. anyway thank you for the tutorials . . we met once at transworld 2012
Great video! One question though. I can't seem to find any bales of hemp to purchase on Amazon for strengthening a plaster mold. Are there any alternatives that work for strengthening? Burlap strips, maybe?
I had tried to follow your 2 part mold tutorial for a mask but failed at it since I tried to improvise with my own materials and clay. I don't want to make that mistake again and want to follow your directions and material listings very closely, haha.
@@eviledwin777 this was the question I was looking for in the comments. I plan to use monster clay to Begin this venture. If I plan to break down the sculpture after making the mold and reusing the oil based clay, is there anything else you’d recommend other than paint, which could contaminate the oil base clay. Thanks in advance, love the work!
Hi Aurelio! Hello to those in Brazil and thanks for your support! Perhaps we will do another mask giveaway in a future video. We only do those give aways on occasion as they have to meet the specs and regulation of giveaway which is not always easy to do. But thank you for watching our videos and for being a fan.
Burlap also works if you can't get hemp. Just cut the burlap and soak in water then add to ur plaster etc.

This is great it's like Bob Ross making those hands!
Ed is THE MAN! Thanks for uploading these! Love watching you work, keep it up!
Hahaha you scared the crap out of me when you cut the clay on your finger. Great effects.
Ha ha, same.

yay i found a new channel that goes into detail and actuallycares about information more than monetization

Awesome!
Mesmerizing as usual!👍🥰
Yes!!!!! Thank u for the video!
This is awesome!
This is an epic video!
You are amazing! So much goes into this work.
this was amazing
You make it look easy Ed. My first mold brought on some colorful profanity lol.

Great videos as always. Please create a "how-to" video on your pneumatic prop building. Thanks.
We will!!
Awesome! 🎃

Actually I am thinking about something that would be right up that ally.
U inspired me to start making my own monsters
LOL...The world is coming to an end... total chaos and anarchy...and Ed is just walking the mold like a pro..now THAT"S pimpin'!
Ha! Just like Alfred E. Neuman!
Thanks so much for this.
This are so insane
Super helpful, thanks much!
this really was so helpful thank you ❤

Thank you for this amazing video! Can I use any glossy spray paint? Thank you :)
Thanks so much! We like using "Leather Brown Glossy"
DistortionsUnlimited thank you so much
im gonna try and sculpt the 2003 Leatherface mask and use your methods. wish me luck lol
All the best on your project!

Can someone tell me, how do you add something to hold a clay mask to your face?
I’m trying to make a mask for Halloween ☺️☺️☺️
Great stuff Ed. Question, what do i look up on Amazon for the loose hemp bales? I looked and unable to find. Also, do you recommend hemp over burlap?
Hi Chad! Hemp works better and is way stronger. Polytek has it 800-858-5990. I looked all over Amazon, no luck either!
Now, are there alternatives to hemp one can use, that will still allow the liquid latex to evaporate correctly? Like plaster "bandages", for example? Or is it better to just go without completely, if the hemp isn't available?
Where's the filling video ? of the latex? I love how realistic you are showing how we are panting and puffing..moukd making is hard ! 😅
Question:...is there a way to make a silicone and foam mold from the Ultracal to make a master copy in case the mold breaks? I may have that issue and want to head it off before it happens

After you make sculpture does the clay get hard before you put your dam up thanks I think you made me find new hobby
Sorry I watched longer and got my answer but you are awesome
Can you use any type of husk substance like coconut fibre.
I would like to know if strips of hemp bag be good for it instead of bushels?
What clay can I use when I have no acess to WED clay?
Just find a smooth non coarse water base clay!
@@eviledwin777 I'm not sure Ed, a lot of water based clays tend to crack when it is dry.
when using oil based clay, do you still recommend using spray paint?
Yes!

Someone else said it, but you are the Bob Ross of Horror.
So if I were to make a 3D mask, would it be absolutely necessary to make a two piece mold? Thanks.
I live in Montreal and for the life of me I can't find hemp or burlap fibers.
"...Like the dog died or something. It is pretty rough." ...I see what you did there :P
Looking for part 3😪😫
good morning, do I have any chance of winning any of your products? I love your work, I'm a fan, I live in Brazil, hugs, att Aurelio Araújo

Do feet next!🙂
yes ,thats cool ,& i wear a sz. 14 - great monster sized foot ,looks like Fred Flintstones foots. : /
👍👍👍👍👍
Is this Rob Zombie's dad?
First :D
I tried to sculpt my monster hands but I failed at it so I threw them away because I was so pissed off 😡
It's hard!!
Im sculpting two hands. What is the quickest way to make molds of them? Would plaster bandages work? Im busting my butt. Deadline is 27 days from now
Hi! Sorry for the late replay, how are the hands coming along?
Hey Ed would it be ok to send pictures of my work
