One my first dates with my wife, went to see this guy at Arni's in Lafayette Indiana. What an amazing artist.
Beautiful. The ultimate blues played brilliantly.
My deepest symapthy to his family.
He died this month, on the 4th of December, 2021.
RIP Roy, please hug mom for me , in the eland of light
My sister snuck me in when I was underage to listen to Roy in the clubs in Naptown (indianapolis). Still have some of the Christmas cards that he sent me.
Damn!!. This video should have a million views!!!
I first heard After Hours played by composer Parish with Erskine Hawkins on a 78 rpm record in the mid-1940s. I was 15 years old and hadn't known such music existed and it rocked me to the core. I haven't been the same since. 8-)
after hours was the name of a jazz radio program in 40s in new york and this was the theme song
Ron, I remember it. That station played with this same theme instrumental until 1965.
Avery Parrish's version was much more down to earth and raw, just like the people and clubs were back then. This version although more contemporaneous, is much too superfluous and overplayed to place a person's head into the time machine.
I saw him in Scottsdale Arizona in the 1970's.
I was thrilled to hear him play at the Crystal Pistol near Dayton Ohio. Love him!
Невозможно оторвать слух! Удивительная глубина и потрясающее мастерство! Гениальный музыкант - я бы бесконечно слушал бы его блюзы...
Killing it!
i love you roy!! jennifer
Nice!
Roy Died last year, he is now with my mother, his true love. Rest in peace Roy and Sherry Ross, and houdini too!
When was this great performance? (I can't read that without my reading glasses...)
Can tell right away the guy can't play very well. Doesn't have a good feel. Runs in circles and then goes down scale.
A great player, played at the Crystal pistol in Dayton, Ohio area. Loved heating him play. Beautiful!👍
thank you for remembering this gem. The original by Avery Parrish with Count Basie is unreachable!!!!
The original was actually performed by the Erskine Hawkins band, and you're right, it's the greatest!
@@stevereich2940 OOps! meant Erskine Hawkins. Was thnking of Lil Darlin' by Basie. Thanx.
I LOVE AND MISS YOU ROY-PLEASE HUG MOM FOR ME IN HEAVEN

Clinic on how to take the soul out of the blues and make it boring.
