"This was, sort of, stepping out of our spacesuit and coming down to Earth and putting on a pair of Osh Kosh and digging the furrows ... we would have to bring the music in, to support the texts: Hunter's Holy Grail" - Mickey Hart
The three-CD set featuring the original album with newly remastered sound, plus an unreleased complete concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, David Glasser, along with restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes.
If it's vinyl you're after, the WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC, limited to 10K, and Dead.net exclusive colored vinyl has just 2000 copies available. Both feature the newly remastered version of the original album.

Will you come with me? Won't you come with me? There's no better place to take a long strange trip with the Grateful Dead than right here. We've got music from every single studio album and a bevy of live albums, to boot. There are celebrated live performances from the 70s and 80s and official videos with more skeletons than you can shake your bones at, an exclusive seaside series on what's to come from the band's rich catalog and details on meet-ups all across the promised land. If it's community you’re after, try your hand at our yearly DEAD COVERS PROJECT competition and connect with fellow Dead Heads around the world. Heck, keep your eyes peeled you might even catch a glimpse of Pigpen on keys, Jerry in a GROOVE, Bobby tellin' tales, Mickey talkin' space, Phil and friends, Bill on the beach, or anyone from our extended family.
It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

RIP Phil Lesh. Your interplay with Jerry vocally and musically was a major reason that "Workingman's Dead" is quite possibly my desert island disc. Phil had a hand in this composition. Thank you for your musical stamp and a life well-lived.
When I was in grade school, I thought they were singing out of tune. When I listened again in high school, I realized that they're singing the most complex harmonies I had ever heard. What insane talent. This song is amazing and one of my absolute favorite Dead songs.
Workingmans dead 👍 great harmonys great 🎸 playing layer ed banjo playing and acoustic playing.
Absolutely
I think everyone in Corbin Kentucky loves this song!!
Yeth
My ex gf is from Corbin. Why do you say that?
I grew up in Appalachia. This song sounds like coal country. The only difference is that most mountain groups don't have drums.
The actual Cumberland coal mine is in Greene County Pa. along the Mon River. I'm sure there are more but was in it's heyday biggest in America
Jerry Garcia played banjo in a bluegrass band before he formed the Dead
But they have booze.
@@joshuasaltzman2403 Jerry was the CA State Banjo Champion when he was 14 or 15.
The banjo style influence is what makes his lead different that any other.
That's why they never liked T. Rex Bang a Gong (Get it On.) Won't hear them boys playing that.
I love this song. My girlfriend did keep me up till 4:Am. I couldn't stay with her anymore, I had to clock in at 5:30 Am LOL! That was a long time ago.
Squeeze Box by The Who. Ideas have their time.

I Suffer from severe depression I right this because a friend or two that I love helped me today. I've been as they say on for as long as this strange trip has been. Without the dead I wouldn't be alive and this album can't be taken away from me. This song can't be taken from any of us so I pay my due Everytime I'm sad because I did more for someone else then myself. I'll give until the trip is over.

Before they named themselves The Greatful Dead, they were called The Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, a traditional jug band
They went by the name The Warlocks, both blue grass bands. They started as teens with Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Ron "Pigpen." McKernan. Phil Leash was the last member to join The Warlocks before they went electric as The Greatful Dead.
