ABOUT THE ASEAN MONUMENT DIVE SITE
The dive site is the First ASEAN Underwater Mini Landmark (AUMiL)! This cultural project was launched by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, the Department of National Heritage, and Universiti Terengganu Malaysia in collaboration with all ASEAN Member States.
The AUMiL features eleven iconic landmarks from across the region, including the Petronas Twin Towers, the Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque of Brunei, and the Jose Rizal Monument of the Philippines. It also includes the Asean Symbol of Unity Monument, which symbolizes the togetherness of the ASEAN countries.
Other monuments featured in the AUMiL are the Merlion of Singapore, Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan of Thailand, Tran Quoc Pagoda of Vietnam, Shwedagon Pagoda of Myanmar, Patuxai Monument of Laos, the Indonesian National Monument, and Cambodia’s Independence Monument.
This significant cultural project was approved during the 20th ASEAN-COCI Sub-Committee on Culture and the 8th ASEAN Plus Three Cultural Cooperation Network meetings, with a total allocation of USD 70,000 under the ASEAN Cultural Fund.
