Bill is fun! I’m a huge Thor fan so I love those decks. My recommendation is that you play those guys into Zola. It’s brilliant and can get gnarly with multiple On Reveals
Imo he's a keystone card for affliction decks and as more cards like Casandra Nova are added to the game he'll become a must have for that archetype. So imo if you dont think affliction will ever be good or just don't like the playstyle then skip but if you like affliction style decks or think it may be meta some day then Id get it (its why I picked it up)
@@rayman17420 yeah well if he gets good at some point then I'll be happy when I pull him in as a spotlight when I'm going for the new card that is dropping that week. It's good to skip some cards and set yourself to have more valuable pulls in the future. Definitely not going to waste keys getting yet another darkhawk variant while pulling for ajax because he might be good some day. This mentality is why people are always crying about the spotlight system. I don't get hooked going for every card and I always get the stuff I really want plus I can pick up an older card that I skipped instead of wasting keys grabbing variants of something I probably wouldn't even use after it's release week.

@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 it’s not really that great tbh. 20 power in each lane used to be game winning, but now we have Arishem that plays multiple 5 and 6 drops, Blob turn 5 + mystique/abs turn 6; or Loki that will play a bunch of powerful on curve cards and then do your own Ajax + Mystique turn 6. Zoo Mockingbird Gilgamesh is much more reliable than affliction, doesn’t have an obvious counter like Luke, and even that deck doesn’t see all that much play. So no, Ajax is definitely not crazy powerful. Maybe not as bad as some people think, but not top tier by any means.
Ajax brought me back to playing High Evo, which was my favourite deck before skydiving out of the meta! Working really well and is an unexpected turn 6/7 drop to my opponents, which is helping the push to infinite!
Sadly I dont think Cassandra Nova can save him either. Even if you play Cassandra on curve, your opponent will draw 3 more cards that are afflicted, but they probably aren't playing all 3. Even if they did, these are cards you would hit with a turn 6 hazmat play anyway. Cassandra is a going to be a very good card, but its cope to think she'll make Ajax into one. I think he's DOA, at least in this meta.

I might ague she makes him worse actually because her existing might cause more Luke Cage. Ajax isn’t bad but I think he can never really be meta because of Luke Cage. If he is ever too good Luke cage comes in and kills a lot of what the deck is trying to do. I have had my best success with him in a toxic Sera build and often it ends up not playing Ajax because you have other stuff to do turn 6.
I think CN does buff Ajax but to me her use is for winning the non Ajax lane. Ajax can carry a single lane himself most of the time with a few other cards. Something like 1: 1 drop or pass 2: Scorpion 3: Cassandra Nova 4: Typhoid should be enough for a lane perhaps then either Ajax on 5 or 6
I just tried Ajax and I was surprised! It's SO weird not having Luke Cage in a Hazmat deck, but Ajax and Mystique made up for it! I got close to or over 20 power from one card each in two lanes from them, and while giving my opponent negative power as well! I didn't think it would work as well as it did!
@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 I feel like Luke is not necessarily a counter synergy since your net power remains the same. But if you have him you can do stuff like Wong Hazmat and he will actually save you more power than Ajax would’ve gained. The only obvious problem is Loki.
We need a new high evo card to evolve, if so i think it should be an on reveal version of ajax and a ramping evo card that gives you an energy when a certain number of afflicted negative power cards are met (eg. OnReveal +1 Max energy when 4 of opponents cards are afflicted with negative power).
After Cassandra is played on curve, which means you need to draw her by turn 3. There are only 3 draws left.. IF the opponent plays ALL of those 3 cards, then Ajax is a 5/10... How is that the "best synergystic card"?
I will say. You can run Luke Cage and not loose your power. U Can venom your Ajax, seal in power and follow it up with LC. I can’t risk rolling for him. 2 keys atm with copycat on the horizon
Think of it objectively, do you really think copy cat will be worth using your resources for ? Like a 3/5 right ? For a small chance to get a decent text . There’s going to be times it’ll be good of course but it’s not as amazing as everyone’s leaning towards. It’ll be a dud more often than not unfortunately.
@OPGrimmz thing is you'll know if it's a hand breaker or not. Your opponent does not. If I get a copycat Shungchi I'm snapping. I feel like surprise plays are super important to get cubes. Red Hulk is already good but if he didn't show he was powering up he would have been super broken.

@OPGrimmz Honestly I don't care if they ever draw it. I'm the Shangchi scenerio the benefit is now having a 3/5 Shang and the knowledge that I can play cards of 10+ power or more without fear. Also this is but one example. If they are playing LT and you steal any of their key pieces? Snap right away. They don't know that they weren't getting that ironman/onslaught/LT. I don't even NEED to play her and they don't have to play their last card for her to be useful.

I got him cuz I think a ongoing control using him manthing and us agent will be a actual threat. With typhoid Mary and Ajax being able to win lanes largely single handed. But this first week everyone gonna run luke and it's gonna be hell

Shouldn’t they just change him to an On Reveal like Gilgamesh? Then you could do stuff like playing Squirrel, maybe Mysterio, definitely Debrii, followed by Hazmat turn 4, Ajax turn 5 and Luke turn 6. Basically if its an on reveal, you could temporarily debuff yourself to buff Ajax, then revert it with Luke without making Ajax smaller. And it would make sense to play instead of just Gilgamesh because you are also debuffing your opponent.

But even if you play her on turn 3, your opponent will only draw 3 afflicted cards, and there’s no guarantee they will actually be played. So that’s like +3 power to Ajax in the best possible scenario. It’s kind of the same as Phastos and Arishem. When Phastos came out a common sentiment was “he’s not that great but he might be a staple in Arishem decks when he releases”. Well, Arishem released, but Phastos never made any of the good lists. Same will probably happen with Ajax and Cassandra. There are just way better things to do with her, i.e. Darkhawk (assuming she can steal from 0 power cards like rocks).
I ended up going for him because I really loved the Spotlight variants for Bill and Darkhawk. I do agree with the idea that he ends up good when Cassandra Nova comes out.
I made out pretty good for once; I was going after Dark Hawk with a spotlight key, one of the few cards that's managed to elude me, and I got Ajax instead. Then Dark Hawk finally popped up in the token shop for 3,000 tokens. So Dark Hawk and Ajax for 3,000 tokens and a spotlight key, not too bad.
I love affliction decks so having a big stat stick for the archetype makes me happy even if he’s not the best right now. As others say I doubt Cassandra Nova makes him better. If you play her on curve it’s a potential plus 3 on him. Doesn’t seem amazing. But she has synergy with dark hawk so potentially a hybrid of those two archetypes is legit.
i spent my first ever 6000 tokens on him but he seems ok in my High Evolutionary deck. You can play it on turn 5 and still can play hulk on 6 or 7. You were saying youd rather play hulk...but you can so i dont see a problem. I like playing Ajax on 5 then maybe playing nothing or wasp or misty knight or sunspot on 6 then drop She-Hulk, Abomination and Hulk on 7...Flawless victory!
I think he would fit into a Shuri build. The cards in that have high base Power, that -1 shouldn't hurt that bad. You wouldn't run Sauron in that obviously and get a secondary win condition
Ajax is crazy powerful! I've gotten 20+ power EVERY game I've played with him, and then Mystique to copy him! All while giving the opponent negative power too! Ajax is surprisingly great!
It was definitely a painful trail and error stream lol, however, i truly feel he gets significantly better with time and when Cassandra Nova drops. I think it's worth the invest for long term as he is considered a "bomb" for the archetype. Great video as always Alex!
Luke Cage isn't a problem. I never encountered him playing Ajax, but I have Enchantress and Rogue to get rid of Luke Cage or at least tale the positive power for myself so it's not a problem at all lol
Hi Alex, question. So I had 4 keys and used one on this weeks cache and got Dark Hawk (Still need mystique) but curious if I should use one more key for BRB, want to try Jane foster decks with the two thors but kinda over complicated all the cards I try to use. Or do I wait for thanos and Cull for next weeks cache?
I haven’t seen Luke Cage fsr.Idk why but my Ajax plays are pretty good hitting 13 14 up to 20 power sometimes.If Luke Cage does pop up I think I’ll throw down Rogue(I don’t have Red Guardian)to steal it and turn the deck into a hazmat Luke deck
A toad is a frog but a frog is not a toad. Ajax will have his place. Cassandra will pair nicely with him. But she will be just fine on her own without him.
If u put hazmat in the deck although ur main goal is to hulk it gives another win condition in case u don’t have a hulk it will also most of the time reduce abomination to a 0,9 Aslong as u do it later in the game to were turn 6 if you don’t have hulk is Ajax abomination
I want this card, but I only have 2 keys and don't want anything else from the spotlight. I like toxic, but the odds of getting anything else is not great
There are just so many non clumsy ways to put big power on the board. Even with Casandra. They have to play those cards to get your buff, and DarkHawk is just a bigger dude against Ari
To be fair , even if he was great I wouldn’t be able to spend keys on him, very limited since I don’t spend money on the game , and I’m leaning more towards getting cards I think I’ll enjoy even if it’s not meta (IE galactus ) I’ve had so much fun with him lol got to infinite somehow haha
Ill get it with tokens when it is actually good in a meta. Right now, it just isnt getting enough power for the kind of deck it is in. You either gotta over invest in infliction, or hope you draw Hazmat
Mailbag: Do people get the same cards over and over from the mystery Spotlight? I have most cards, and when I pull the mystery spotlight (which I do most weeks), I keep getting Nico, Werewolf By Night, Kitty Pryde and X-23. Over and over!!!! Its very frustrating. Has anyone else similar experiences?
Honestly, i love toxic decks do I was super hyped for him. But mext next two weeks are being mire hyped boxes in general , and unfortunately, i have to skip this week like i did last.
I don't think Nova is good enough for Ajax. If you play Nova on curve, that's still a +3 max to Ajax. I got Darkhawk onmy first key; I think I'm done for the week.
Ajax is SO much better than Gilgamesh! Much higher power and he's not stuck at a certain power. I was able to turn it around with a last turn Hazmat play, and an on reveal wouldn't have that extra power! Plus Mystique copies him! Ajax as an ongoing is SO much better.
rolled 1 key , got dark hawk.... have 1 key left this week. what should I do?? i dont have beta ray or ajax but dont really care for beta ray decks , would not mind having another series 5 option though so thats how I feel about it. what should I do guys roll another key?
I don't think Ajax is bad but if he ever becomes too strong luke cage counters him. I think he's too niche for me to spend keys. I don't own beta ray but he is also too weak

Personally I think 5/7 with a +1 effect is a pretty weak statline. Gilgamesh is 5/9 and gets +2 for each buffed, and SD didnt even bother to make this at least feel equal to it. It should be at 4 but I guess Ajax t4 into Spider Woman t5 is too strong for SD to make 4-cost Ajax live
Ths card really should have been released with cassandra nova, guess there copium backup plan in case this card sucks is to release nova a week later to force plp to buy it in case nova makes this card go from mid great. I still dont think nova will make this card that much better. idk
Everyone is trying to play AJAX straight up and that's just never going to work. With what they did to Hela and how she works now. AJAX has a role there because he doesn't need to get crazy big. He doesn't need to always be on the board. He just works in Hela
Ajax for me was the most skippable card since Proxima (and Proxima only because I’ll never play paint by numbers discard). Just not a fan of cards that push a specific deck build.

I love weeks like this. I have 12k tokens finally saved up so I can buy a card like Ajax when it inevitable gets buffed to be usable.

i spent my first ever 6000 tokens on him but he seems ok in my High Evolutionary deck. You can play it on turn 5 and still can play hulk on 6 or 7. You were saying youd rather play hulk...but you can so i dont see a problem. I like playing Ajax on 5 then maybe playing nothing or wasp or misty knight or sunspot on 6 then drop She-Hulk, Abomination and Hulk on 7...Flawless victory!

I think he would fit into a Shuri build. The cards in that have high base Power, that -1 shouldn't hurt that bad. You wouldn't run Sauron in that obviously and get a secondary win condition
Ajax is crazy powerful! I've gotten 20+ power EVERY game I've played with him, and then Mystique to copy him! All while giving the opponent negative power too! Ajax is surprisingly great!
It was definitely a painful trail and error stream lol, however, i truly feel he gets significantly better with time and when Cassandra Nova drops. I think it's worth the invest for long term as he is considered a "bomb" for the archetype. Great video as always Alex!
Luke Cage isn't a problem. I never encountered him playing Ajax, but I have Enchantress and Rogue to get rid of Luke Cage or at least tale the positive power for myself so it's not a problem at all lol

So I had 4 keys and used one on this weeks cache and got Dark Hawk (Still need mystique) but curious if I should use one more key for BRB, want to try Jane foster decks with the two thors but kinda over complicated all the cards I try to use. Or do I wait for thanos and Cull for next weeks cache?

Ajax is the definition of a “win more” card. When he’s good, you’re probably already winning and he just helps you win more in those games.
I haven’t seen Luke Cage fsr.Idk why but my Ajax plays are pretty good hitting 13 14 up to 20 power sometimes.If Luke Cage does pop up I think I’ll throw down Rogue(I don’t have Red Guardian)to steal it and turn the deck into a hazmat Luke deck

A toad is a frog but a frog is not a toad. Ajax will have his place. Cassandra will pair nicely with him. But she will be just fine on her own without him.
If u put hazmat in the deck although ur main goal is to hulk it gives another win condition in case u don’t have a hulk it will also most of the time reduce abomination to a 0,9 Aslong as u do it later in the game to were turn 6 if you don’t have hulk is Ajax abomination

There are just so many non clumsy ways to put big power on the board. Even with Casandra. They have to play those cards to get your buff, and DarkHawk is just a bigger dude against Ari
Ajax will be good when Cassandra nova comes out. Turn 2 scorpion, turn 3 Cassandra, turn 4 absorbing man, this play line is just toxic.

Is "drain" the same as "afflicted"? If Luke is played (and cards are no longer drained/afflicted) does Cassandra lose the power gained?
To be fair , even if he was great I wouldn’t be able to spend keys on him, very limited since I don’t spend money on the game , and I’m leaning more towards getting cards I think I’ll enjoy even if it’s not meta (IE galactus ) I’ve had so much fun with him lol got to infinite somehow haha
Ill get it with tokens when it is actually good in a meta. Right now, it just isnt getting enough power for the kind of deck it is in. You either gotta over invest in infliction, or hope you draw Hazmat

Mailbag: Do people get the same cards over and over from the mystery Spotlight? I have most cards, and when I pull the mystery spotlight (which I do most weeks), I keep getting Nico, Werewolf By Night, Kitty Pryde and X-23. Over and over!!!! Its very frustrating. Has anyone else similar experiences?
Honestly, i love toxic decks do I was super hyped for him. But mext next two weeks are being mire hyped boxes in general , and unfortunately, i have to skip this week like i did last.
I don't think Nova is good enough for Ajax. If you play Nova on curve, that's still a +3 max to Ajax.

Ajax is SO much better than Gilgamesh! Much higher power and he's not stuck at a certain power. I was able to turn it around with a last turn Hazmat play, and an on reveal wouldn't have that extra power! Plus Mystique copies him! Ajax as an ongoing is SO much better.

I don't think Ajax is bad but if he ever becomes too strong luke cage counters him. I think he's too niche for me to spend keys. I don't own beta ray but he is also too weak
Personally I think 5/7 with a +1 effect is a pretty weak statline. Gilgamesh is 5/9 and gets +2 for each buffed, and SD didnt even bother to make this at least feel equal to it. It should be at 4 but I guess Ajax t4 into Spider Woman t5 is too strong for SD to make 4-cost Ajax live

Ths card really should have been released with cassandra nova, guess there copium backup plan in case this card sucks is to release nova a week later to force plp to buy it in case nova makes this card go from mid great. I still dont think nova will make this card that much better. idk

Everyone is trying to play AJAX straight up and that's just never going to work. With what they did to Hela and how she works now. AJAX has a role there because he doesn't need to get crazy big. He doesn't need to always be on the board. He just works in Hela

Ajax for me was the most skippable card since Proxima (and Proxima only because I’ll never play paint by numbers discard). Just not a fan of cards that push a specific deck build.
