  • This video explains the procedure as given in IRC 117, 2014 for structural Evaluation of rigid pavements using FWD. Three parameters are evaluation, strength of concrete, Load Transfer efficiency of joints and voids below concrete slab.

    Respected sir, Excellent explanation ..I am interested to learn why we do normalization of deflections after computing area and radius of relative stiffness. Modulus of elasticity of concrete is computed after normalization of deflection. How this normalization is carried out ?

      Very tricky question to answer here. In fact IRC 117 has taken lot of material from AASHTO code given in the reference list. This code cosiders BISAR model to determine layer properties. The AASHTO code is not purely on PCC slab but several combinations of AC and PCC layer and therefore it normalises the deflection values to get it corresponding to layer thickness taken in field. I think you need to read this AASHTO code to get answer to your question.

    Hi sir, can you please explain why we consider equation 10 instead of equation 11 for LTE analysis?

      Equation 10 is used when deflections are measured on either side of the joint, and particularly when FWD is done on a new pavement. Eq 11 is when deflection sensors are 300 mm apart during the FWD tests. In our case, D1 and D2 were measured on either side of the joint, that is why I used Eq 10.

      There is very little effect of Poisson ratio in stress distribution.
