I'm an old, retired photographer. I also had a separate career doing commercial video. I'm 70 now and I have embraced the digital media for more than 20 years. All of your advice is really great, especially the part about location scouting. Color grading is something I usually do with stills, so I love what you are doing even when just doing the shots of yourself talking. As an old man I want to encourage you to keep at this. Also the courtesy thing when shooting is always the best path. Respect really makes friends better than anything in this world.
I hate location scouting. lol I don’t have a vehicle. But I have so many places in my town in mind.
Locating and light are everything. To give an idea, I work at a local coffee shop and they had to make a set happen there for a TV show. They weren't changing any of the decor in there. It was a simple dialogue scene by the front window. Almost all close-up and there weren't really any extras. Just that, the whole place was filled with gear top to bottom, pelican cases everywhere. The whole crew was about 20 people, and they had to get the fridges turned off during shooting because the buzz would get into the microphones - now personally I would've went with lavaliers but they wanted that and after all, they paid for it. People have no idea of the sheer amount of work that goes into producing a simple dialogue scene...!
Yes omg! I was an extra in some shows, and its absolutely insane how many people work on the set and how everything needs to be coordinated and super synced. One single scene, that lasts about 15 seconds in the show/movie can sometimes take hours to get done, its mind blowing...so its always like a little new years eve celebration when a scene gets done in the first take :D
This and honestly most of your videos are truly essential for any filmmaker or photographer. Always taking notes!
Hey bro we're missing you on TH-cam and Spotify. My wife and I love the way you put all your lessons in a very down to earth manner. Keep it going bro we need you out here.
This is why I love this channel. He's upfront and gets to the point.
This guy is one of the best on this platform. Round of applause for continuously creating engaging videos.
I’m just started my creative journey today with a bmpcc og rigged out and I’m having fun but man there is lots to learn. Thanks for being such a great teacher and keep bringing the 🔥.
One thing I love ab your videos is that just through the way you deliver tips and information and the examples you use, it's like sneaky motivaitonal as well. Idk if this is on purpose but you do a great job of speaking in a way that's super inspiring without using all the typical self-help speaker type junk.
Honestly you’ve become my favorite TH-camr, your style and asthetic really inspires me, keep it up
Bros the plug for the best free content on this entire site. I swear I’ve learned more from your videos than I have from years of formal education. God speed bro
This was my favorite video of yours, easily. Great tips brother.
The information in this is key, but the glasses steal the show
I always feel inspired after watching a video, thank you for sharing!
The reason I got into film photography and more into becoming a filmmaker! We appreciate you bro!!
Your editing and photography is simply stunning. I've been following for a while and love your vibe. Keep it up, man!
I just wanted to say that your shots are amazing, as well as your way of explaining your methods. A big inspiration for me when making my own. Neva change!
I really love your color grading. It looks so great!
You are my favorite TH-cam filmmaker. What you do with natural light is unbelivable.
best vibe for the sunday. and learned a lot as usual
Some of this advice is so basic but also so easily overlooked! Thanks for sharing. Funny though, in the UK you'd never get away with using natural lighting 🤣 your style so heavily relies on that lovely natural light you live in, you make the most of it though 🙏
Thanks for all the tips. Love the content ❤
Hello Brother, Thank you for the knowledge you giving to us. It has really stepped up my game in film making. Your Editing is great! I have noticed color grading is soft and also have a glowing look and It’s so cool. I would be glad if you can walk us through your color grading process on your next episodes.
Thank You
A few things more:
Lighting - throw some cheap LEDs inside of china balls, or muslin cloth as a diffuser is cheap as hell or even a shower curtain.
Vintage Glass - some vintage lenses can be had for under 100$ that genuinely have identical cine lens counterparts in circulation today. See the comprehensive FD lens guide from cinema division for more info
Grading - Getting good at grading can make the difference between that hollywood look and the student film look. The Movie LUTs YT channel has a breakdown on why short film whiplash looks so different from the feature film version and a lot of it is down to a more confident grade.
Thanks my brother I'm learning everyday. Much appreciated from South Africa
Good solid no bullshit advice here. Everything you say is true, especially the last bit about knowing your camera. So many TH-cam videos with people using different cameras each time, same with multitudes of different film. I spent years with HP5/HP5 and Agfa Pan 25, and my Mamiya RB67 Pro S. I'd like to say that I learned my camera/film back to front, including the film development. But, nope..I always learned something new most times I used my little combinations. Today it is a digital Hasselblad..same process, learn something new each time, but I stick with the same camera. Great to have found your channel..you are an inspiration to an old farty photographer who has never lost the zest for photography, who sees something new each time I go out with my camera. Best wishes, David in the UK.
Bruh while watching your short film no choice I have to say the funnest part was when he opened the pizza box as well as the pizza cover being left in the car really good work I will follow your teachings👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Watching this coming into my end of year film school project and this has inspired me
Thank you for this Vuhlandes - I love how you make each shot look like its done on a $50k camera, it looks like you have done it with a lot of love for the material and it looks beautiful. Your kind generous advice has really helped me in my filmmaking 😎
That car door shot was crazyyyy. Your compositions are inspiring man.
i love your use of aspect ratio omg
Useful Tips and on point
Would really love to see a video from you about how you plan and write for your videos/shorts!

I'm new to photography and short films but I love it. You are teaching me stuff, really. Don't stop.
I swear nothing better than a Vublandes video on a Sunday morning. Great insight on this one 😭🙏
Hey dude. Solid as always. When referring to budget I think we need to factor in the rental cost of the gear we use too, whether it's entry or pro.
Good point, cuz people never ever think about the rental cost and go straight to owning stuff and it's not wise!
Vuh you’re such an inspiration to me oh my god you make such beautiful art in photo and video form. oh my GOD
You never miss man ⭐, vuhlandes and gawx were the super inspirations that got me into shooting my videos.

THIS IS SO BENEFICIAL, I STARTED CREATING VIDEOS FEW MONTHS AGO, I TRIED LOOKING FOR RESOURCES TO HELP WITH MY STARTUP BUT IT FELT LIKE EVERYBODY WAS TRYING TO SELL AN AFFILIATE ITEM TO ME, I AM HAPPY I DIDN'T FOLD, I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY CREATED MY FIRST TH-cam VIDEO.
Thank you for sharing all these tips! I'm barely diving into video creation and this was inspiring!
Thanks for informing us that the storyline in "I Care A Lot" is "so bad". It was recommended to me recently and I was on the fence about it but now I'll save myself the time.
Thank you for sharing your perspective and knowledge. I hope you have a great day
Dope vid V! You my guy! So insightful on the important nuggets of filmmaking/storytelling. I recommend newbies to your channel. Fan 4ever bro!
Loved it..really thanks .. you are right about creating at low budget short films 🙏
Quality work as always. It's a pleasure to watch. Also you ever use haze in your videos? Some film makers say it's often a very effective option that many overlook. Such as a flashlight in darkness would reveal the light beam with haze.
Thanks Vuh we really do appreciate the content

Amazing channel. New subscriber. I've had 2 documentaries made about me, but I want to continue filming my journey and YOU stood amongst the many artist I've been looking for. Thank you Sir. Austin Crawford.
I'm taking notes! 🖋️
Awesome man ! So freaking inspiring !! I have a question, in your videos you always make people look so damn cool, so if you were to film content for a clothing brand with only one cine lens on a crop sensor camera, would you grab a 24 mm that would be a 35 mm or a 35 that would be a 50 mm ?? I only have the budget for one lens, and thinking about this is killing me lol. I would so appreciate your professional opinion on this. Not all of us who watch you are filmmakers, but we want to create good and pleasant videos, and you my man, are hella inspiring.
Very inspiring, thnx!
I needed this I make short films 🙌🙌🙌 new one coming this week
Bro, all that former noise is gone - fantastic :D
Appreciated 🎉❤
I really enjoy your videos and your work. Thanks. Very cool.
Hey! Thank you very much! For great video! - Like you said, it's not the camera. The only question is whether the filmmaker has creative talent or not. Nowadays, cameras have become more accessible than 50 years ago and everyone wants to make films. But unfortunately, not everyone will succeed. In addition, as more people come into the film industry, the more this area will depreciate. What is already happening. For example, music videos get far fewer views now than they did 10 years ago. The same thing happens with photography. Why? Very likely because music videos can now be made by people who can buy cheap cameras. Not selling 3 houses to buy Panavision. The same will happen with cinema. Therefore, large film studios monopolize specials. effects (special effect, SPFX, SFX, FX) Which are not yet available to low-budget film studios or individual filmmakers. And this is a big problem. And as long as there is a technological gap between low-budget studios and studios like Sony and Universal, they will have a monopoly. We need cool SPFX, SFX, FX for low-budget studios. I hope in 10-15 years neural networks will help with this, but I’m not sure. Film studios will come up with some other trick so that low-budget studios do not have normal profits from their activities.
Love this content!
you're such an inspiration dude, thanks for the tips. Do you have a color grading tutorial?
Don’t forget to like and comment on the video. It truly helps and is truly appreciated beyond words I can express
