      Land Rovers are generally speaking, very reliable vehicles I have found. However, like all 4x4 vehicles they do need (and must have ) more servicing than an ordinary family car. Truly speaking I would call them an enthusiasts vehicle and benefit highly from 'pro-active' maintenance. For example issues with air suspension. The air bags are made of rubber and like all things rubber they wear over time so I replace then every 5 yrs whether they are working correctly or not. They cost £60 each so not a fortune and are a very easy fix - 15 mins each - plus the compressor has a wear part that should be replaced at the same time - cost £15. With that work done, 99% of all air suspension problems will be avoided.

      High Peak Autos in your experience which 4wd has been worse?
      I like land rovers, but they are just hard work.
      Go to change a discovery auto box oil filter, oh have to remove exhaust and cross member.
      Own a 2009-2012 5.0l Range Rover, your timing chain tensioner will fail, it will. And to stuff this up after the 4.0 and 4.2 problems is crazy, yeah that was jaguar, but LR should have know.
      I’m not saying land rovers are bad cars, or incredibly unreliable.
      But they are below average in regards to reliability, they are more trouble than they should be, the question is are they worth the trouble?
      Talk to an Indy car mechanic who works on a good selection of cars, he won’t have nice things to say about any modern Land Rover.
      Yeah I know all cars have there problems, but Land Rover do excel.
      Edit, again I quite like the sport, looking at buying a 5.0 supercharged, but I don’t kid myself, I will be changing the timing chain, sprockets, tensioners and fuel injectors, add to that that the suspension bushings ain’t last in off road use, not a problem, just extra maintenance.
      When you come from jap cars, you know it just doesn’t have to be this way.

    In 2016 I traded my 2007 Escalade for a 2010 Range Rover Sport HSC with exactly 99,100 miles on it. Needless to say I was PETRIFIED since I too had heard the horror stories. But I'd always wanted a RR Sport so I took the leap. Today my Rover has 110,000 miles on it and I haven't had ANY issues at all. The thing is amazing.
    I say if you want one, buy one, but get a good past service history check like I did. It took me several months to find my particular Rover Sport, and I haven't regretted my purchase at all.

    Anyone contemplating buying a used Range Rover should also watch the video by Doug Demuro, who bought a 2006 model. Range Rovers deservedly receive many plaudits for their off road capabilities, for their abilities when it comes to dropping the kids off at school and for the ease with which they take up two parking spaces at Tesco. It has to be said, though, they have a bit of a reputation for being pretty expensive to repair and maintain and they don't have, say, Toyota's reputation for robustness - something, you would have thought, Tata Motors should have addressed by now.

Truly not much of an SUV for the money (well the new costs). If you're looking for a used one because you can't afford the new. Make sure you get a strong bumper to bumper warranty. Seriously. Had RR Sport 2010 3.6 V8 HSE, Audi Q7 and now an X5, which is best is very subjective. The Sport was fun to drive ,lovely feel and had all the extras, ex RR VIP fleet. Faults were the sunroof leaking into the car due to a blocked drain pipe, damp getting into the radio system causing the speakers to crackle until the car dried out, the DPF trying to kill me by causing the car to go into limp home made at the worst moment, on motorways ,dual carriageways etc and finally the warning light itus which seemed to crop up every so often. Q7 , good engine and gearbox and reliable, good air suspension just the car lost value badly and was frankly boring. X5 , realy good so far , my car has had only one problem in over 50k miles and that is the headup display has failed to come on once,stop and start and it was fine again, road tax is cheap for this thing and it makes me smile, I like the looks, the pan roof etc. Your experience could be different, would I buy another RR, yes if someone else pays the bills, I've had the 2012 westminster 4.4 TDV8 too. SQ7 would be fun to try, but the X5 will do me fine for the time being. Cheers.

Better than the 3.0 and 2.7.so I did my homework over the space of 6months and after reading a lot of comments on the Internet I decided to save my money!! To many horror stories and for eg if you need to take turbos out the whole body needs to come off!!!.. Yes it's a luxury car and there's no doubt the drivers seat is a good place to be. I've had lots at that age. Make sure the timing belt has been replaced (it has two belts), get the gearbox fluid and filter changed if it hasn't been done already, make sure you change the oil every 10,000 miles and you should be fine. The e/handbrakes are dear when they fail (but again, you can have them serviced - they grease up all the parts which extends its life). The suspension compressors can fail, but luckily there are lots of reconditioned ones on eBay etc.. Ownership (in my experience) is nowhere near as frightening as everyone makes out. Enjoy it!

      Dave Partner , You have to realise you have an 11year old vehicle and unless it has been serviced and maintained regularly you are asking for trouble buying one,I had a Range Rover Sport TDV8 3-6 Diesel that also was an 07plate,I chanced buying it because it was cheap and I have the facility's to repair it,when I sold it the mileage was 143,000 and I had done about 20,000 miles in it,the only thing I had to replace in that time was front brake pads and a suspension compressor which I had reconditioned for £150-00 and fitted it myself,buying these vehicles is a gamble and can be very expensive to maintain,a lot of people who buy them can't afford the repairs and should think very carefully before purchasing as major components like engines and gearboxes are horrificly expensive,I was lucky with mine.

A sunroof in a Sport is a rare optional extra in the UK - they hardly ever have them. Poor engine I own a garage in Manchester city centre and I currently have 2 3.0 tdv6's both snapped chains and bent valves.

    TDV6 has crank bearing failure problems. I’ve had it happen on two of them. Land Rover want around 14k to fix. Good engine builder will want around 7k. Even with extremely methodical maintenance you can’t guarantee it won’t happen.
    Main dealer service intervals will almost guarantee it will.
    When it does replace the turbo’s because they most likely will be shot and have it poly bushed while the body is off. Save you constantly replacing bushes. Not a cheep car to run but fantastic when working well. Oh forgot to mention Gearbox will go 2.5k to fix and air suspension pump will also eventually go!

    • @HighPeakAutos
      @HighPeakAutos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I've had a few comments about the crank bearings failing. Fortunately Ive never had that happen to me so I wasn't aware of it It annoys me when there is obviously a common issue and the manufacturer won't do anything about it as a recall etc... The new 8 speed box is much more reliable than the previous ones, Ive never had any issues with that. I did mention having all auto boxes serviced at 80-100k (which is something I do religiously) to extend the life of it. They are great cars, but not without their issues. Just like any other used car really.

    Great review and i love the informal format with both pros and cons and most importantly the way the car feels. I think that’s missing in most reviews today. You’re easily one of top 5 reviewers today. And now I want a Range Rover to go with the Jag on the driveway. Classic. :-)

      Thanks for the comments! The audio was really poor on this vid, it was my first attempt. Thanks for watching. Which Jag do you have?

    £550 road tax?? Jees, that's a deal breaker but I have to admit that all things considered, the early Sports are bargains right now.

      Paying £355 road tax on a 2.5l V6 Rover 75 over in Northern Ireland. £550 sounds about right but still would near make you cry haha

    NO NO NO .... Never ever even consider buying or even think about buying a Range Rover that’s over 5 years old it will break down on a weekly basis the dash will throw up fault lights daily and they burn more fuel than a jumbo jet .... AVOID AT ALL COSTS

    Your delivery is just so dope!! Funny I have spent the last 4 days researching the RR sport and I have my mind near made up on on 2010 with about 87k miles on it. The Dash just looks more solid and luxurious. The pre-2010 dashes are just a little too spartan and a bit too cheap looking. Thank you for helping make my mind. This was educating .

      Ennui New York Haha Thanks! I would definitely go for a 2010 onwards model. The interior is much more luxurious and the exterior looks fresher too. They also have a better choice of engines. Good luck with the new car! 👍

    Thank you very much for mentioning my home country of Kuwait 👍🏽 where ALL Range Rover sports are strictly petrol 😊 I still have my 2010 HSE V8 5.0 running in excellent condition and yes indeed the mpg is abysmal but the fuel is probably the cheapest on the planet which makes the petrol models far superior IMHO to the diesels …. It is a sport after all 👌. Cheers

    The single most expensive repair I've ever had to do on my cars was engine and turbocharger swap... For a Mk2 Hyundai Santa Fe, which is Asian and generally considered very reliable. Cost me over 7.000€ and that only got me a high mileage salvaged engine (new one was over 11.000€ without garage fees). Now I've been driving a BMW X3 E83 for 18 months, spent about 5.000€ on various repairs together and the damn thing still has some minor to medium problems ALL THE TIME. Plus, all the money wasted in the repairs haven't improved the E83 ride quality at all, the more I drive it the more I hate it.
    My next ride will be either W164 ML Merc, L32x Rangie (the mrs wont let me buy a Disco 4, because she thinks it's too ugly) or Wk2 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I don't mind the extra running costs, as long as driving the car puts a smile on my face.

      I agree. I've had Japanese cars that have cost me a fortune so now I'm of the opinion that most cars are unreliable so I might as well drive the car I want and worry later

    Don’t be fooled by this rose coloured review. Speak to someone in the trade who sells second hand ones and they will all tell you the same TROUBLE!!! I’ve been a motor trader for 30 years. Land Rover are historically the most unreliable cars on the road. Court case on wheels !!! Range Rover for vanity X5 for sanity!!!!

    • @HighPeakAutos
      @HighPeakAutos  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree. It depends how they've been looked after

    • @blahblah6968
      @blahblah6968 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m talking about direct from dealer part x with full history and low mileage. You obviously live in a parallel universe where Land Rover make reliable cars. I really wanted one but ALL my contacts in the trade who sell dozens very swiftly talked me out of it !!! Court case on wheels

      I didn’t !!! I listened to people with experience. What is it with Land Rover fan club ??? You remind me of a guy who was part exing his discovery in and told me how it had been great and had no trouble for 3 years. I then pulled out from his documents a head gadget repair bill 12 months old for £2500 !!!!! No problems !!!!! ??? Tell me a more unreliable top end 4x4 ?? There isn’t one. X5 3.0 d is light years better. My ass is in a 68. Couldn’t be happier

    Given the bad reputation that these have, does anyone think that the newer models are anymore reliable. I Mean after 2014 model. I would appreciate any advise as I have been thinking of buying one.

      I am currently saving up to purchase a roadtrip 4x4 for across Europe, I’m budgeting up to £7.5k (£1k in service and upgrades). From friends that own 4x4s and online research I’m most inclined for the M class mercedes given that the gearbox and engine are quite tough and wont leave you stranded.. range rover is tempting because its luxury appeal but range rovers (despite how much I love them) seem to be money pits after 100k miles
