Truly, happiness is watching this great video ! After having so many favorite videos, this is the one above all, showing intimate details of the great Hungarian virtuosos Kocsis Zoltan and Ranki Dezso.
Looks like one of Bruno Monsaingeon documentaries on these two young Hungarian masters. Very interesting, wish I could hear what they are saying in the interview - what with one thing and another I did not learn Hungarian enough to understand the voiceover.
Well, I can tell you at the beginning Kocsis is talking about their freindship, which did not begin because of music, but because they were in the same grade at school. He goes on to emphasize that while they were in the same studio (Kadosa) and are close friends (like brothers), they have completely different styles, temperaments, and careers, even though they perform together when they can. When Ránki was trying out pianos, Kocsis was talking about how different it is to be a pianist and subject to whatever instrument the concert hall has to hand, regardless of how large a role the instrument itself plays in performance. Let me know if there are other parts you want translated :)
yes, I think so.... Kocsis is really a legend , the most important musical figure of Hungary in the last 50 years....but, obviously Ránki is an absolute great pianist
Dear Richard from Hamburg! It's literally impossible to buy at any price because it doesn't exist. The scene which you're talking about is meant to demonstrate how to produce a piano reduction from an orchestral piece "on the fly" so to speak. In the film, Monsaingeon essentially "taunts" Kocsis that he couldn't possibly do this task if faced with a challenge hard enough for him. Daphnis et Chloe, a piece which is written for a very large orchestra is included for the purpose of further illustrating the point that Kocsis, could, in fact, make something of it on the piano effectively. I'm very much of the opinion that the whole thing was scripted beforehand but it makes for an interesting scene notwithstanding.
@@Kris9kris Dear kris9kris, I know this Video since 3 years - his possibility to transcribe orchestral pieces is absolute unique. His Philipps recording of Liszt 2Concertos,Debussy, Bartok 3 concertos,Rachmaninoff 4 concertos became best critics in the 1980s in german fono forum, the most interesting Pianist! And you have bis Talent, let me know what you are playing on video or in public, Richard
Delightful and thank you very much for posting this! For the variation beginning at 48:31, how does this seventh variation connect to the main theme? I have reviewed them both, but haven't found a clear answer yet.
My best guess would be harmonic contour (albeit only implied). If there is any more connection, it's lost on me. I'm sure many eminent musicologists could explain it much better than I could.
@@Kris9kris Thank you! I haven't heard the term harmonic contour before, but I look forward to reading up on this. If you have some more information to share on this topic, I'd be grateful for the opportunity to learn from your expertise. Do you have any more information about the Brahms music that you'd be willing to share?
Nagyon érdekes látni Kocsis mestert ilyen fiatalon, fantasztikus tehetség volt már akkor is
It is very interesting to see Master Kocsis at such a young age, he was a fantastic talent even then. from Google Translate.

Beautifull tecnique Ranki

Ни слова не поняла, но фильм понравился ! Браво !
Ces pianistes sont géniaux, beaux, sympathiques, magnifiques musiques
With all due respect to Ranki, a great pianist without doubt, this is the Kocsis show. Kocsis is on another level to anyone , frankly.

Ránki Dezső külseje pontosan olyan mint akkoriban a rocksztároké. Pl. Révész Sándor ugyanígy öltözött és ugyanilyen hajat hordott a '70-es években.
Bizony, simán filmszínész lehetett volna....csak...zongorázni szeretett jobban...
Kocsis could play organ! Cool : )
Kocsis says 17 min 36sec-40sec: You know, if some one really would like to understand Bach it could not be possible without playing organ.
