One of the best video stories found online, from someone who served on board from 1998-2000: thank you for sharing!

Thank you for posting this video, it brings back memories. I bought a book from the Doulos back in 1978 or 1979 when it visited Argentina. The book is a small, yellow, English-Spanish, Spanish-English dictionary with a picture of the Doulos on the front of it. I used it so much while I was learning English and a lot more when I moved to Australia. This dictionary seemed to have all the words I looked up, never let me down, that's why I treasure it so much and will never let it go. The experience of entering the Doulos was unique, I often remembered it each time I used the dictionary. Unfortunately, I didn't realise the Doulos was coming to Australia before it was retired, otherwise I would have visited it once more as an adult. Thank you, Doulos crew, if you ever see this post.

Thanks for sharing this! I was a crewmember when Doulos was in Argentina in 1979, a very special time. Glad it made such an impact... God bless!

I remember boarding the MV Doulos back in the mid 90s when it was anchored at the Kenyan coast in Mombasa. I was about 10 then. I have very fond memories of this ship. I'm glad they are preserving her on dry land now, the old lady needs a rest too. Future generations deserve to see this record-breaker... such a beauty! As someone who can't swim and yet is fascinated by the deep blue ocean, I can say that this beauty and her endless bookshelves took my breathe away.

This was my home and workplace in the early 1980s. A wonderful international community to live with. The Doulos was retired from Maritime travel somewhere around 2012. The ship is berthed in Singapore and functions as a hotel and conference center, rechristened as the Doulos Phos, “Servant Light”.

I'm really glad that it is being preserved now, especially after it was almost scrapped.

The MV Dolus docked at Kidderpore (Calcutta , India) in 1987(if I remember correctly).. I still remember visiting it twice in December that year. As a grade 4 student, climbing up the stairs starting from the ground and into it was an experience...still clearly remember the white colour body with Blue fonts.

I had a good chance to have visited on board mv.Doulos in 1979. The ship was berthed at PSA 2, Singapore , next berth to our passenger ship, and displaying books exhibition . The ship's structure and layouts, and accomodations with old wooden decks looked distinctive of aging old ship since those days. Afterall it was a good beautiful looking passenger ship of old days.

Was on Doulos back in 2006 in Malaysia was still in school and a classmate of mine won a trip from a local radio announcer and got me to tag along. Just got news her successor Doulos Hope will be stopping at Port Klang this July and that's what got me back to look up those times and this ship.
