I looked into building a Moxon vise from one of the kits, but given the cost of the kit and lumber, it was only a few dollars more to get this one. One of my best bench tool investments. My benches are task specific, and this Moxon vise gives me more options on both the low bench, and my high bench.
    Cheers

Beautiful vise. Simple yet beautiful. I especially like the portability option.

I am in the process of building one kind of like the "Crazy Russian" but modified to my needs. It maybe a while before I finish because we are in the path of Hurricane Harvey right and I don't know long it will take to get back to normal around here. I originally bought parts and pieces to assemble what is more closely aligned with the Benchcrafted hardware, to save money. I have discovered that to really make it right, it is more expensive than I had thought. I really like the lake Erie screw I got for my leg vise but I have found that a leg vise alone is simply not enough. Good luck with your site Joshua.

I made one from laminated SYP 1" x 6", and 1" dumbbell handles. I should have used 3 layers-it flexes more than I would like, and placed the screws more towards the top, but it still works well.

I recently purchased a couple of dumbbell handles for the same thing. I cut one in half, then I will make a base to insert the two pieces into. Did you just use the standard nut or fabricate something to screw the nuts to? I'm thinking of screwing them to round pieces that I make of the same wood that the chops are made of.

Mike PierceI bought three handles. I don't have anything to cut them down with, so they are still full length. I inset one nut into the rear jaw, then used the nuts from the extra handle as jam nuts. I didn't make any handles/covers for the tightening nuts, since I never intended this to be my permanent Moxon vise.

Nope, sorry. But it shouldn't be hard to make from eye. But one vise chop is slightly taller than the other to accommodate stabilizing it against a workbench. I'm sure there are some plans somewhere!

Wood and Shop I went to the site.
Wrote an article then tried to upload pics from my phone. But my pic files where too large so I guess the article was lost as well.

Hey Phil, it's probably better to do it on a computer so you can shrink the photos. Or shrink the photos on your phone before uploading. Hope to see this!
