The carpenter bees destroyed my deck. I got a tennis racket and practice my swing on them.

I have great fun hunting those with badminton racquets, I think some of the neighbors think I'm crazy, they see me swinging but they can't see the bees.

I have a problem with them going in behind by facia boards that are covered with aluminum on my vinyl siding on my house. Ive been here since 1996 and they keep returning every year. Possible have them getting inside the knee wall area that has doors in my upstairs. Any suggestions on how to get rid of them behind my vinyl siding and facia boards...no holes to see reference filling them with wood putty. Can only see the stain on siding where they go in and leave either a sap or their deposits!!

Nice looking yard, Doc! I'm envious. Thanks to your tips though, my yard is starting to look better.

I have a simpler solution. Take 1 brown paper bag, stuff it full of anything to create a form and hang it up. The bees thinks it's a hornets nest and will stay away.

I had a Carpenter Bee problem in the second year after I moved in my house. They literally were burrowing into my siding and making that side of the yard useless for the kids. I had to call someone to take care of it. It was at infestation level. The stuff used in the holes kept them from returning.
Key thing to understand is if you don't get rid of them the first year. They'll come back the next year. The offspring will take advantage of existing holes and burrow new ones. The problem will continue to duplicate itself year over year until you finally put a stop to it. But by then the damage can cost you thousands to fix. Bees are good but you can't let Carpenter Bees make a home around your home just as you wouldn't with Carpenter Ants or Termites.

I used to have carpenter bees boring holes in my shed door at my old house. After using a product to kill them, and plugging the holes I heavily painted the door and the other unpainted spots. That seemed to fix my issue.

Does painting or staining wooden fence keeps them away?

Hey Doc! I would think spraying an insect repellent into a trap designed to attract insects would have the opposite affect? Keep doing what you do!

Doc, so maybe I missed it but what repellent do yo use with the stain? I know permethrine is used to spray on hiking gear etc to stop ticks etc.....is this what you use in the stain....?

Why did you leave the posts higher than the fencing? I’ve also read that these bees bite, not sting.

I have been reading up on the carpenter bees. The traps some are also putting a little feromone on the trap jar that help attract them to crawl into the trap.

  • @donaldnewton4947
    @donaldnewton4947 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I’ve always heard that carpenter bees are not pollinators. Typically you can walk right up to a bubble bee while they’re pollinating and I’ve done that. Carpenter bees react very differently and are more aggressive and skittish.

My county agent suggested to put several inches of water in the pint jar attached to my trap so when the bees go in they can't get out. It works.

I have a lot of redwood on my house, they have made swiss cheese out of the redwood, I used to have a commercial building trimmed with cedar, they love that also, chewed it up, lots of holes. After the bees drill their holes the woodpeckers come along and do the damage you showed on your posts.

Absolutely beautiful lawn Doc! I’m going out to puff some Tempo dust soon and I think I’m going to use flex paste to cover the wood. It’s the exposed wood over the basement windows. Don’t know why it’s exposed maybe air or wicking feature of the construction. What’s your thoughts on sealing the wood with flex paste?

What area of the country are you win? As a pest control operator in California I very much enjoyed your video and have shared your link to about a half a dozen people in the last week. Two questions I had from customers is what area of the country you live in and I did not know.

This really hot the nail on the head for me. I have a small carpenter bee problem and this really out it in perspective for me. I see them here and there but only one hole.
I'll deal with a hole or 2 if they pollinate my garden haha

Doc, Enjoy your tutorials and videos on many topics, I've held off on asking any help on a big problem I have, today is Tuesday after memorial day, I have been using the super juice for two weeks in between the treatments but the topic I want to ask you about is the ground moss that's out of control here. I reside in Middle Ga. and I am reaching out to you on some advice. I would send some pictures but not real tech on how to do that yet. But, will try. But, do you have an answer ? Thanks Doc.

    • @HowTowithDoc

usually people change the PH of the area to help with moss or get a moss killer. It's an annual problem that usually keeps coming back fyi

man they are all up in my fence and deck, I have to spray for them weekly and have the exterminator out doing treatments or else yea, there might be 100 or more (I can get 20 of them in a half hour with a tennis racket at the start of the warm season). I can keep them in control but our neighbors do not seem to mind getting buzzed every 10 seconds by a swarm of bees so they do nothing so surprise they come back every year in force

  • @Rize_Inn

Thanks, I didn't know my bee problem is carpenter bees. They come back every spring. I usually try shooting them down one by one with wasp spray. Because I can't find where they live and I didn't even know what to look for. I have soffit that has a mesh design on my deck. So I think their holes must be hidden behind there. At least now I know what I'm dealing with. I'll try some of your suggestions. Thanks again.

Thx for making this video. We live in a log cabin so the carpenter bees see our home as a buffet 😂😂😁😜 It’s funny yet it’s not. Anyway, we use the jumbo sized bee traps and they work great but there’s always those defiant bees that we have to use the electrified tennis rackets on and the wasp spray, but that spray scares me bcuz we usually have wind here. I went on your link and ordered the spray foam. I’m really looking forward to that bcuz I think it will be fun and satisfying all at the same time. I hope you get a percentage of that sale. God bless and keep making those videos. We love watching them.

If carpenter bees like thicker wood why not completely remove the thickest part of the fence build, the post? Metal post instead of wood.

Wood and metal age differently and when you stain them they end up with a different look.
