    I like how the George Bailey voice is slowly morphing into Bane

    My only annoyance with this movie is that I had to see this EVERY year. We watch it at this old theater which only shows older movies that aren't from the 90's-2010's. I don't get how it's cursed content, it's annoying but not cursed.

    My only experience with It's a Wonderful Life was a stage production my high school did while I was in 10th grade. I helped make some of the sets during class which was an absolute pain, we made a giant fucking bridge at one point and I hated making it but it was fun to sit on. I ultimately went to see the full production because a friend of mine played Uncle Billy and he said this was his favorite movie of all time. I barely remember anything plot wise, and the bridge was used for a singular scene and then demolished a week after. When I saw this in my subscription box memories started flowing back, and now I am mad because of that bridge.

    Do you think part of the reason why people love this movie so much might be because every cartoon episode that copied it trimmed all the fat and added a bunch of other stuff to it? Because I remember genuinely liking the Tiny Toons episode of this.

    Miracle on 34th Street holds up. It has like, jokes, the scenes don't stretch on for painful 10-minute chunks, and the characters are good and likeable people with defining traits. It's also shockingly progressive.

      The problem is that Gigaboots doesn't understand that George Bailey's sacrifices are the only thing that is keeping the town from going to complete shit. Mr. Potter owned like 95% of the town's work and the Bailey Bank is the only thing keeping the town's decency from being lost. You would THINK DAN WOULD RELATE TO THIS GIVEN HOW MICROSOFT KEEPS BUYING COMPANIES LEFT AND RIGHT, but no?
      If anything, it's does reflect an old time take of how one small alternative can push back against what is seemingly a giant corporation that controls almost all. THAT is why It's a Wonderful Life got popular in public domain.

    • @GigaBoots
      @GigaBoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1. That isn't why, them playing it nonstop was why it got popular and that's because it was in the public domain.
      2. Just because the idea or theme behind a movie might be good that doesn't make it's 2+ hours long ass a good film.

    • @Gackt4awesome
      @Gackt4awesome 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@GigaBoots
      1.Plenty of movies get played nonstop. Doesn't make them popular. Many Christmas movies get played every year but they never get popular. Does anybody care about Christmas with the Kranks? No! Yet it gets played every year.
      2. The issue is that the two hour movie just shows a guy's life. I'm not saying it's good. It's annoying at times, HOWEVER given how many people try to make faster paced Christmas movies that focus on wacky hijinks and turning characters into assholes for the majority of the movie to just say "oh, you should be tolerate them because it's Christmas" shows how much Hollywood and many Christmas based movie writers have forgotten the human element in the movies.

      "These others movies are bad so this movie is good" isn't a very solid argument for the movie. Also, this isn't subjective or arguable, being public domain is literally why It's A Wonderful Life got popular. It's history.

    I can’t agree with this movie being bad (and especially not your citizen Kane take that movie is genuinely great not just because it’s old and important but because it’s full of great scenes). But I will say you do make a good point about this movies pacing being intentionally meandering, and you did a good job at repeatedly explaining why you hated this movie even if I don’t agree with it

      Yea, I couldn't remember who it was. By the end of that sentence what I was trying to say (but it's ROUGHLY expressed) is that someone who disagrees with me, like I recalled that you did, about the quality of Citizen Kane also though IAWL was a good film. I didn't think it was you specifically, but I remembered they also disagreed with me about Citizen Kane. While editing this I went "man, I fucking butchered expressing that" but it wasn't fixable in the edit so I thought I'd clarify here instead of doing a weird "insert clarifying statement" or "chop out large segment of conversation" cause either of those would've been insane.

    It just occurred to me I haven't had to care about this film since like middle school where my school performed a play where the lead got to jump off a chapel balcony to mimic the suicide attempt. I only think about it because The World Ends with You's Japanese Title was considered to be incredibly close to this.

    Every scene in this movie is at least 5 minutes longer than it needs to be. It wouldn't have been so bad for me if there wasn't so much useless fluff. We don't need his whole life story to know that he was hard working, honest man who would bend over backwards at the drop of the hat to help someone in need. Also, This is a christmas movie is the same way Die Hard is. calling it one is pretty dumb.

    Holy crap, I feel so VINDICATED listening to this. I was never a fan of this movie, but I've always been the only one I knew to think that. You guys basically hit all the nails on the head. It's super boring with terrible pacing during the summary of George's life. Then when George goes into Furious Mode it becomes uncomfortably real and way too close to home for me. Then the only part of the movie that I find interesting, the Bad Timeline, George ruins it by being a dumbass that just CAN'T GRASP THE CONCEPT OF AN ALTERNATE TIMELINE despite having it explained to him what is going on constantly and repeatedly throughout the whole segment. And on top of it all: Potter wins! He never gets found out or gets a comeuppance, and he gets to keep the stolen money. Truly, he was the hero of the film that we deserved.

  • @SingForAnactoria

    This movie was SO bad but somehow all the part with the angel are SO MUCH WORSE. It's like the movie was a 1/10 and the parts thirty minutes from the end were -3 at best

    • @SingForAnactoria
      @SingForAnactoria 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would have been a better movie if he had just killed Potter, and the angel had to find a way to make him not go to hell despite killing a man
