The film here was shot in Los Angeles, and truly captured the L.A. of the studio era. Many of the recognizable background buildings in this film are either replaced or are on the list for demolition... Check out the backgrounds during the hot rod stunt scenes... Sunset Blvd. They filmed where the Viper Room is located. Scott Michaels of Dearly Departed Tours has videos of these streets, and identifies movies, deaths, etc.. that were filmed or happened there.
Judy Bamber is listed like last in the credits here. I think this was her first credited role, as it says "Introducing" above her name. She played a street tough in this movie, she worked as a pin-up model and had roles in some slasher and horror movies.
John Ashley was a spoiled punk in this movie. I never really understood why he was supposed to be so hot. Singing voice wasn't all that. His acting reminds me of John agar, one dimensional. Agar always looked creepy, beady eyes, and wooden.
"Ashley had not meant to audition for the film. He accompanied his girlfriend to her audition and they asked if he wanted to try out as well; he was successful, although she was not. Ashley subsequently signed to a long-term contract with AIP. The film was shot in six days." "Diabolique magazine said Ashley was "a terrific delinquent, full of scowls and swagger; he’d never had an acting lesson, but he has a natural presence and easily steals the movie from the "good guy", Steve Terrell (though in fairness, Ashley has the better part)."" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragstrip_Girl_(1957_film)
It's about time some squirrel uploaded this. And thanks too. I hope it stays up
