    Blues is something magical.
I was not into the blues in the beggining, always loved guitar and rock, the grunge was of my time.
And thats why Blues is so special, because is like a red wine, with the years it get better and better.
Thank you for the list, iam making my personal collection of Vinyl, now that iam 40 years old. History is music.

The first Paul Butterfield Blues Band album is a must have for any blues lover. When I first put it on my record player and ‘Born in Chicago’ came blasting thru my B&W speakers, I knew that album was going to be something special.

Mazzy seems like he has most of the essential records ever issued, but his videos are nice and relaxed , informative , never a show off and seems like a real nice guy. My tip for the Blues , you can’t go wrong with Slim Harpo.

You sent me a John Mayall/Blue Breaker (w/ E. Clapton...yes), in a random pick box during one of your auctions and it's never been far from the turntable! Thank you for the videos and sending it in the box. Amazing.

Just found this video Mazzy, nice man. I do like the Blues for sure. The Blues had a baby and they named it Rock & Roll ! ! Eric Clapton said the album that got him into Blues was B.B. King live at The Regal. I don't have that one yet. Blues is so deep. From Robert Johnson to John Mayall to Joe Bonamassa man the list goes on and on. Thanks Mazzy

    Hi Mazzy,
Wow. What a sumptuous blues collection. What a diverse and complete collection. Love your genuine passionate and scholarly as usual. You do it with such a natural way. Love it, love it, love it.
To top it off you mentioned that a professor played the Animals.. one of my all time favorites. And oh yes, we talk you seriously.. hat or no hat. Love BB King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker. I know of the Super Session. It is often shown and talked about. Thank you for this incredible overview of the blues. Definitely not feeling the blues after this video... quite upbeat actually.
God bless you, angel of the VC

Ohhhh yeahhhhh. I was looking forward to this video. I love the British Blues sub-genre so much that I have a small British Blues section now (and even that can have sub-genres of its own, ugh). You're right, it's hard with the crossovers/subs ... and I have a muchhhh much smaller collection overall than you do and it stresses me out so I can only imagine your dilemma. That John Mayall CD looks awesome. If you're going to pick up Mayall on vinyl, you gotta grab Beano & A Hard Road first. His Bluesbreakers stuff is flawless. Muddy, Buddy Guy, Albert King, SVR, Elmore James, ... so much good stuff. Added some new albums to my want-list too. Sweet collection. Thanks for sharing.

The dreaded, “running out of room on the shelves”... yikes😬... I don’t separate genres either because of the cross over. I managed a record store for 5 years and it was a pain in the ass debating whether or not to put an artist in a particular area. In my own collection I like to keep things strictly alphabetical by last name. I think i May make a Jazz section at some point because there isn’t too mush crossover there. I’d keep the blues rock artists such as Paul Butterfield, Clapton, etc.. in rock as well. I’m still watching the video but I had to comment once I saw you show Van Ronk. I’ve just really started getting into him over the last few months. He’s been one of my most played artists so far for 2020. He’s incredible! Hope all is well. I was worried about you because I haven’t seen a new video in 2 days or so. Hahaha
    Cheers,
    Brian🍀

Ah yes Da Blues. I'm an old rocker that loves the blues. Muddy didn't like that Electric Mud album. No Siree he didn't. LOL .. I saw Muddy and The Wolf and Willie Dixon and all the Kings, Freddie, Albert and BB.. I saw a lot of great blues artists white and black. In a bar is my favourite venue for the Blues. Some great stuff here. That's a nice collection you have there Mazzy... Very nice.. If it was me I'd be keeping them all in their own little lighted shrine. LOL

Van Ronk, isn't he the guy that was playing casually with several people including a very young Dylan and he said to a couple of ppl afterward that Dylan was the guy that will go far. The ppl he was talking to were surprised, noting that he wasn't a very good guitarist, couldn't sing very well, etc. But Van Ronk said he had something that the others didn't. I could have that wrong, I misremember often.

Segregation of my blues section LMAO! Personally the only genres I'd keep separate would be Jazz, soundtracks, and I guess hip-hop (if I had any!). Anything rock-related can stay in the 'main' collection. Everything in alphabetic order, keeps it simple as possible.

  • @christopherkibler511
    @christopherkibler511 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Nice, loose grouping of blues albums. The gray areas are why I generally don't separate by genre. I have soundtracks separated, but some artists do an entire soundtrack so it goes with the artist. I couldn't see separating Fleetwood Mac into blues and non-blues categories. Would be a good follow-up discussion with Amanda. I see that Tom Rush Blues, Songs & Ballads album on TH-cam. I am off to listen to it. Thanks, Chris

I organise my records into Classical, Jazz, and the rest (Rock, Blues, Heavy Metal, Funk, R&B, Folk, Country...) in alphabetical order, close to 3000 records and still find every record in 3 seconds. Maybe after 10.000 I have to change:-)...and still I can't decide where to put Steely Dan.

and one of the the most important musicians in american blues history. i enjoy some of mazzy's vids where he recommends artists and lp's and explains why, but vids like this are just a spoiled materialist guy showing off his toys. any fool with money can go shopping and flaunt their purchases. missing bloomfield on the golberg 2 j blues lp was frankly depressing
