    I have been watching you for years. I keep thinking there has to be a repeat coming up soon. No, I guess that is what keeps you motivated to keep inventing new patterns. All the best, Sean

    Another simple, but effective fly. I really like the CDC wings. These look great if you have quality CDC...makes all the difference! I too tie flies with CDC and the fish really seem to like them. John

      Hi John,
      I do have very good CDC feathers, they came from a company called Premier Angling Supplies in Ireland the gentleman that owns the company is Pat Nolan and he's one of the best..I'm glad you liked the fly..

    Surprised to see you didnt varnish the body! love the fly as always davie. I have become partial to using Rite bobbins, was wondering which brand and style you prefer. Keep those videos coming, best wishes from New York!

      Hi Scott,
      I've found the superglue holds the body really well and varnishing it will certainly make it much more durable as you know...I've used a few bobbin holders over the years and been quite happy with most but I have been using the Tiemco Heavy Duty version since 1990 so I would say I'm happy with this one as you are with the Rite bobbin holder so stick to this one as you do get used to the feel and the way it works with the threads and spools you use...I will certainly keep making the videos and all the very best from Scotland..

    like a lot off lads I bet

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Patrick,
      There's one or two good videos on youtube showing how to strip the herl from the peacock eyes, I have attached the video for you to see..I would always dye the peacock eyes first then bleach the herl off, then I'll soak the quills in hair conditioner to help keep them soft which stops them going brittle...

    Great video Davie ...love the 'V'' wing you created and then secured with UV resin....thank you for sharing...as a 'UV beginner ' may I please ask what UV resin and torch you typically use these days ?...lots of choices /varying prices/quality on the internet...guessing you've probably tried most resins and torches out there so would welcome your opinion...many thanks

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi T K,
      The first resin that came on the market was the bug bond and I have used it from the start,I even have their pro torch that came with the resin ad it still works perfectly today..I mostly use the lite version though the regular is better for the larger flies as it's much thicker and builds up far easier..I have tried a few others but I find many of them have a strong smell coming from them which I don't like..I have attached a link to the setup I use for you to see..

    Hey Davie,
    I have been looking for the video of the dry you tie where you split the cdc wing with another cdc feather. Cant seem to find it maybe you know what I am talking about. It's very similar to the one you split the wing with foam but its cdc. Thanks.
    All the best,
    Brock.

      Hi Brock,
      I was tying this style of fly today but on size 16s 14s and 12s, it a great way to split the wing...I have attached a video of one of the videos which shows this method for you to see..

    Cool, nice fly.... One question: Fly tying amd everything around, you this for fun or is it your work you do (earning money with it)?
    Great vid's.I would say the most professoinal Fly tying Channal by far👍🎣

      Hi Jaron, Markstahler,
      Tying flies and working on the videos here on TH-cam is now my all time job though I still would say the it's my hobby as well..I'm glad you enjoy the video and that you feel they are of a high standard which does mean a huge amount to me so thank you very much..
      All the very best Davie..

      Thanks for quick answering.
      I have just one other quest.: If I'm allowed to know it, if I would tie flies, do vid's and sell my flies, would it be enough to earn enough money or live with it. Or otherwise asked:
      Are you selling your flies, do you earn your main money through fly tying vid's(TH-cam), could you tell me a little what's about your circumstances?
      You don't have to answer, it would be just extremely useful for me.
      All the Best
      Jaron Markstahler 🎣

      Hi Jaron,
      If I had to be honest tying flies and making the videos will not make you rich as I just get by, but I would say though I rather do this than work in a job I didn't like...I have always looked for sponsors but they would rather give you a shirt or a packet of hooks than pay you but you can't live on this..I hope this answers some of your questions...
      All the very best Davie..
