- Dr. Pat Farrell, aka wineking Patrick, goes to Costco to buy cases of bubbly from burgundy which are on sale as part of a close out special. Bernadette asks him to explain his thought process in evaluating some of the other wines on sale this month: A Portuguese Red blend, Simi, Laguna, and a Rioja. Watch until the end where Pat will blind taste the Rioja.

If you live in the United States, you can buy alcohol in many states at Costco without a membership.
The current list I found is in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Texas and Vermont.

I often get weird looks and comments from some friends when I buy the Marques de Riscal. It has been already one of my favourite Riojas when I was a beginner and mainly went for supermarket wine but to this day, I still like to buy it when it's on special offer because of the price/value. And the same goes to bubbles - I tend to buy Crémant (although it's usually from the Loire) as it's simply so much more affordable in comparison. Watching you go to Costco to buy affordable but still good stuff is reassuring to me and great fun and I'd love to see more of that. Thank you and I wish you great luck with your own channel!

Marquis De Riscal is one of my go to wines. At the sale price, this wine is a steal!
Great video, the right message. Understandably, people are curious about expensive wines, big names! But the most surprising discoveries are made among affordable wines. There are the best price/pleasure wines to find. Like the Marqués de Riscal reserva 2015. "No go for me" I can understand. Casa Santos Lima is a large producer but reliable. Maybe it's a red blend from various Portuguese wine regions. Portuguese are champions, when it comes to affordable an exceptional wines, in general.
I agree. I love wines from Portugal, which are often great values. A multi-region red may be delicious. My point was that I wasn’t going to purchase a case without having tasted the wine. One concern is that European producers sometimes view “the American palate” as desiring sweet and oaked, and would provide that product, which is not my preference.

As another former wine professional I enjoyed your video. I was able to buy a single bottle of the Portuguese Red Blend and, for $4.58 it is a true bargain. I've been back for 2 more cases. We also love the sparkling wine from Burgundy. Our other favorite is the Kirkland Pinot Grigio for $4.50.
Thanks for the information. As a rule, I really like Portuguese wines but was hesitant to buy an untasted case.

Hello , Am about opening a wine shop in my area Tarkoradi. Western part of Accra, Ghana. Any advice when ordering .
i'll have to try a case of that when i go there to get a case of boxed cabernet.
We don't see that selection or those prices here in Michigan. And never do I see close outs. Next time I go to SF, I'm driving, and going to stock up!

Trader Joe’s sells a fantastic cremant de bourgogne sparkling wine for $9.99. I find it equal to Veuve and because of the price being 4 times less, it’s a better bubbly.
Does the Cremant from Trader Joe’s taste like brioche and croissants? If it does that’s a heck of a deal. That’s what a Vintage Veuve Cliqout tastes like to me. Thank you
@@Kindlyone777 Yes, to me, the cremant has the proper, yeasty bready taste that I find in good Champagne. Also, it has tiny pin-point bubbles, not cola-sized bubbles I find in cheap sparkling wine.

@@Love_Conseillante 그런 와인들은 보통 수입사에서 마진을 높게 잡기 때문에 그렇습니다..ㅎ 운송비 때문이라면 모든 와인들이 다 가격이 이만큼 차이나야 할텐데 다 그렇지는 않않아서요
@@earthizmhalbae 수입사의 장난질도 있지만 직구하다보면 운송비도 큰 영향도 있는거 같습니다
100만원짜리 슈발블랑도 30만원찌리 사시까이아도 만원대인 까시에로도 운송비는 750ml운송요금 이거든요
사시까이아에 5천원 만원 추가되는거야 별거아니지만 만원짜리 와인에 운송비 5천원 만원 추가되는건 체감이 크거든요
실제로 후안길은 장난질이 심한데 마르케스 리스칼은 저정도면 많이 싸지고 현지가대비 납득할만한 가격이라고 하는 분들도 많더라구요
@@earthizmhalbae 이건 직구 일반 구매에 비행기편 운송이라 큰차이가 있긴하지만 10유로 와인 직구하면 46퍼 세금보다도 운송비가 20유로 나와서 저런건 구매 메리트가 없거든요
도매가에 배편 운송이라 좀 다르겠지만 진짜 대량구매하는 수입사 아니면 이런 케이스도 있을거같습니다

I've been drinking few bottles of wine from Rioja but never smelled lemon🤯(maybe because I've never expected that??) Probably I should focus on the smell of lemon next time(I'dd love to bring some money to be invited for the party as a bribe(jk jk🤣))

와인킹의 제이가 멤버쉽을 통해 금전적 이득을 함께 하려 했고 패트릭은 그걸 반대 한 것 정도는 대부분 와인킹과 패트릭 구독자들을 다들 유추는 하고 있었지만 패트릭의 마지막 조크는 제이와 관계가 틀어진 이유를 애둘러서 분명히 한 것으로 보이네요. 패트릭은 유튜브를 통해 자신의 와인에 대한 지식과 경험을 많은 사람들에게 공유하면서 순수한 지적 충족에 목적을 두었고 아무래도 제이는 사정상 유튜브를 통한 금전적 이득도 함께 하려고 했겠죠. 개인적으로는 멤버쉽이든 뭐든 양질의 컨텐트를 통해 와인을 공부하고 세 사람의 와인을 즐기는 삶을 공유 할수 있었으면 좋았겠지만 각자 가치관이 다른 것이고 이미 틀어진 관계가 쉽게 봉합되진 않겠죠. 언젠가 시간이 흐른 후에 관계가 회복되어서 다시 와인을 함께 즐기는 모습을 보고 싶다는 희망의 끈을 살짝 적어봅니다.

Why do you buy your wines at Costco when you could be hunting and supporting smaller family-run properties?
He doesn’t just buy them from Costco. He does do it for videos often though because they usually have a good selection of wine, are discounted and therefore cheaper, and many of the international viewers in Korea can find these wines in their local Costcos.
What small proprietor do you propose has 9 boxes of the particular sparkling wine Pat was seeking?
@@marilynbeardslee2163 to just walk in and stumble upon? Could call any bottle shop and have them throw something on their next PO.
These bigger brands control over 60% of the market. How about a wine that is made for a living and not for a corporate pocket? Share the story of the wine as the messenger you are as a wine professional. Pat is afraid to overwhelm by becoming technical, but a little here and there would be nice.
We the larger outlets we can reach and more people, but we love our small shops and shop at them often
