    I know this is 2017 but which way did you go, N or S ? Heading out there in a few days.

      Thanks for your question. When I fish Depoe Bay, I rarely leave the bowl of the bay. There’s enough structure and plenty of fish. Either north or south are both good bets. Head to the buoy and then find your structure. Good luck.

      @@Madocthevindicator that is really a personal decision and has to do with experience and comfort level. For me, I’m fine up to 4’ swells, provided the periods are at least 10 seconds. Shorter periods and it’s like a washing machine out there. I also don’t like minus tides due to the big tide swings. I hope this helps.

    Whose music at the end?

      Hey Jim. Thanks for watching and for your comment. Great song. It's from the TH-cam Studio free audio library, it's called In The Shadows. You can search the Library for In_the_Shadows and find it. Thanks for watching.

    Hey man, loves your videos. I would love an explain-like-I'm-5 rundown of your cold weather gear and safety equipment. I am really wanting to get into kayak fishing off the coast without anyone having to fish my body out of the ocean.

      Hello Paul, Thanks for your comment and question. What you see on me and my kayak are the mandatory items for going into the salt: Wet or dry suit, PFD, VHF Radio, GPS/Compass, rescue knife. The parts you don't see are also important: My Contact info and description of my kayak on the dash of the truck, telling someone where I'm going and when I will be back, knowing the weather and surf forecast ahead of time.

      Hello Darren. Going out of Depoe bay is pretty easy, even on days that are not idea. We always radio the harbor master on the way out and on the way in through the channel and get cleared before proceeding. Once you are out of the hole, it's a matter of getting out of the main channel where the boats race in and out, and sometimes can't see us in between the swells.

    Does fishing those lings with lite tackle make the difference? Makes for a better fight for sure Ii am headed out that way in a week. You ever fish the jetty out of Astoria for lings?Love the yaks also Fish on .....

    • @DADventurerNW

      David, I fish lite tackle for everything. For jigging, I love the Shimano Trevala S, 10-30 line weight. It's very flexible, but has the backbone to handle big fish too. I think the lite flexible rods make the jigs and swim baits have way more action than a heavy rod. I also fish with the minimum amount of lead. Most days I fish a total of 3 or 4 ounces, and all of my swim baits are rigged weightless, with a single, tear drop sinker at the bottom. The weightless swim baits, flexible rod, and lite lead give so much more action to the baits than a heavy rod. It's also easier on your arms. I haven't fished that spot you are talking about, but it sounds fun. Good luck.

    Hey, my dad and I kayak fish depoe bay a lot but we always have a hard time finding the fish, any recommendations? We have a fish finder onboard.

      Hey Paul M. Depoe Bay is tricky to find fish. They generally aren’t in the same spots every time. If you head out to the first buoy, you can go left or right and find structure. I just paddle around until I find structure or suspended fish. I usually don’t need to leave the Depoe Bay inlet area to find the fish. I try to stay. Between 50-70 ft and don’t fish with more than 3-4 oz of lead total. Let me know how you do next time you are out there!

      DADventurerNW Weather was supposed to be nice, but right at 6 am was real choppy. Took us two hours to find the fish and then we had to deal with tons of small Cabezon but I also hooked a nice one, my dad estimated it was around 10 lbs. Ended up getting our limit in 4 hours which is pretty long.

      Paul M , that sounds lake a great day to me! Gotta wait a few more weeks to keep that Cabbie! I hope you marked that spot because they tend to stay in the same areas.

    What rods were you using

    • @DADventurerNW
      @DADventurerNW  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Daniel. Thanks for your message. For rockfish and lings, we are fishing Shimano Trevala jigging rods in the 10-30 lb rating. We are also fishing Okuma low profile coldwater line counter reels. These rods can handle up to 6 ounces of lead, but we usually fish with only 3-4 oz . The rods have great action but enough backbone to haul up big lings and cabezon from the bottom. I also like them because the are light, and won't make your arm hurt after a day of jigging.

    Which model is the yellow kayak?

    • @DADventurerNW
      @DADventurerNW  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both kayaks are 2014 Hobie Mirage Outbacks. Best all around for fishing and crabbing.

      Thanks. That was my guess, but the cameras do strange things to the perspective.
