    What about the reach of that lead hook while you retreat? I don't see how that can be effective, it covers far less distance and your goal here is to create space. Would a jab be better here?

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can jab, yes. Also hooks don't have to always be short range -- you can extend your arm and make it a longer, looping hook.

    Ik you’re moving backwards but what about the rule not to cross your feet and move with what ever foot is closest to the direction you are going first? Just curious

    • @CarlyDayDay
      @CarlyDayDay ปีที่แล้ว

      He and some others made a video about that a while back. Basically, it's a rule that's meant to be broken.

    • @epicboi3213
      @epicboi3213 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the first combo he did the rear leg is moved first, so the rule not broken. For the 2nd its something you need.to.judhe by yourself in each situation if you can get away with it.
      A commom way to not cross my feet i do is instead of backing the lead leg first, i do it sideways first, then back the rear leg way back, while pivoting the leas leg. Hope it helps

    Completely the opposite of what your footwork should be when you’re moving back and punching just saying

  • @elibuster4569
    @elibuster4569 ปีที่แล้ว

    Proper hook is 45 degrees not overextended 90. His overall idea is good but is lacking. You get more speed and power from 45 degrees

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Proper hook is the one that lands; you adjust the angle dependent upon the range.

    • @elibuster4569
      @elibuster4569 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fighttips not true. Just because it lands doesn't mean it's correct form. Just because I get bigger at the gym doesn't mean my form is good. You want maximum efficiency for multiple reasons: one being longevity of body. Another is that it uses the hips better and generates more power. It's also quicker because you don't load up as much. And the distance think doesn't make a lot of sense either. Distance hooks leave an unwanted opening. Try it I promise you that it's better. Your lead foot still turns so it's the same fluidity of motion from the lower body. I will say though the same idea doesn't apply with body hooks. That one's more like 90 but only because you're using more hip and turn than anything else. And your elbows are much closer to you body so you're not leaving yourself too exposed. I mean youre still exposed are but you turn your chin into the shoulder and it's way less exposed. And just another tidbit (this one's just me sharing because I like boxing and isn't a criticism at all) the jab works so much better when the elbows aren't flared out. Think of those kangaroo boxing pens they just extend straight. It's so much less telling and can be done with zero load up. In general you want to keep elbows in as much as possible. If you do, then you don't telegraph as much. That goes for them hooks too
