James, glad to see the content of this video. My Pinay is from Lahug Cebu. It's where the IT Park is in Cebu City. I have tried to learn as much as I can about her culture. I myself find it very interesting. I met her here in Iowa and she'd tell me a lot and i thought she was pulling my leg. I was surprised when we came and visited. One has to be amazed at how family oriented they are. How happy and friendly. You don't find that here in the US. Anyway, love your videos and keep them up. Great content. You take good care of Miss Mel as she will for you.

I stayed in Lahug for a month when my wife and I got married, because she worked at a bank there and I could walk to have lunch with her on days she worked. Nice neighborhood. There's a little tablea chocolate cafe there in JY Mall, good sikwate and champorado.

I think a lot of people, mostly older, either living or planing to live in the Philippines will also die in the Philippines. That’s not a bad thing. Out bones or ashes are going to land some place no matter what.
We should all plan for life and know life ends somewhere sometime. But take up that portion of the burden from your loved ones left behind. Plan what you want done and provide for that occasion when it comes.
No worries to your wife or GF it was handled by you and paid for by you. Have ready paperwork done including notification of family back in your country of origin. Financial plan with insurance and possible savings distribution. Lock it down and tight so there’s no argument.
Foreigners can’t own property including a grave plot, so what’s your plan? Think of these things and personally I hope the Philippines will allow for cemetery plots to be sold permanently to foreigners.
Me cremation is fine and scatter my ashes at sea 🌊 but I would need to have that arranged ahead of time. Heck mix me into concrete and cast a block for that matter and toss it overboard 😊I truly wouldn’t care at that point as long as family has nothing to worry about. Want to remember me on all saints day, just go to the beach 🏝 I will be with you in spirit, and you get a day at the beach. I like that idea.
My condolences to family and friends there. Loss is difficult as anyone who had a loved one pass on. God bless to them and Rest In Peace to your friend.

I have been to both my wife's parents funerals and I loved them both, the cultural process they do is far better than the west (wrap and pack mode). We head back to the Philippines in May for the June Death anniversary of both parents and enjoy the family celebration of there lives with much joy.

Sorry about the passing of your neighbor. May his family have peace. As for dealing with disagreements with your spouse, I ditto you and your wife's method of resolution. Me and my Filipina do exactly the same. We just give each other space and time. Seems to work for us. I stopped getting too upset about it a long time ago. Arguing never works. We see some things differently and have cultural differences. Yet, we're still together! I told her she's stuck with me no matter what. Thanks Pete for sharing. 😊

Life is diverse. Many may not get the opportunity to experience it like some do. What enlightenment. To be blessed enough to have known (and know) people that you otherwise might not if you weren’t placed on your current path in life and make the choices you have. One’s life is based on choices they make and how they react to situations that come along. It’s what one makes it to be. If we didnt have times to celebrate and times to mourn it wouldn’t be worth the journey. Y’all take care. We are glad y’all started this channel. God bless!

Condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Harpon! Thanks for sharing James & Me! For all my years, I’ve always thought the games/gambling was primarily to keep the “night watchers” occupied and entertained, it never dawned on me that it would to raise funds for the burial.

I lost my next door neighbor/best friend a week before I was supposed to return to the States, last month 😢
    He was only 62.
I’ve been learning about Filipino culture, and the way they handle deaths, from my Wife.
My late Wife (Filipina) had also taught me things, but we always lived in the States, and never came to the Philippines 🤔🇵🇭🌴
Hey James, take good care of my Kuya Mike and Janet, while they’re there. ❤️ I told Janet to tell you ‘HI’, this morning, when you walked past, during her livestream. Looking forward to getting to southern Panay Island, later this year!

Good job. I put money into 2 different coffins back in the 80’s when I was at Cubi Point in Subic Bay. The first was around 35ish, the second was around 15. You dun good. You told it like it is and has been there probably for a long time. My mother is actually still alive. I spend as much time with her as I can. Once she is gone I’ll be heading to the Philippines myself with my wife of 34 years

Yes, all people are going to go sooner or later...
Readying things for that eventuality is another mission to get done by all of us...
    It is expensive too...
Two of my sisters passed last year, and the cost was over $10k for each...
In The Philippines, I like the traditions they have...Much more respectful...
In the USA too often it's not that way (although there are some that still respect those who have passed)...
You've helped out that family needing a top off to get the final burial done, that's the definition of a good community member and person IMO...
Death and what comes after is never a pleasant thing, whatever we can do to make it easier on everyone left behind is something to take care of now...
Life is shorter than you think, unfortunately...
Condolences to the family of that neighbor...
    🙏🙏🙏

Sorry about your neighbors passing. I think it’s kind of cool on how the Filipino celebrate things. I didn’t know a lot of that. I know last night my Filipino was upset with me because her father died of a heart attack when she was very young and I have been building up stores and businesses within the whole family, the Filipino family that is to make them strong independent and so sufficient so when I want to retire and or one, my Filipino comes here to United States to stay with me, we don’t have to worry about them, but she was mainly upset because I also explained to her with the land purchases And apartment building purchases and all the stores I don’t have to worry about her if I passed in my sleep someday she worries because I’m still in the United States and I do I work seven days a week. I don’t take time off, but I don’t work as many hours as I used to, so I don’t burn myself out. But I’m like you I’m very open and very honest about how life really works and when I do build my retirement home in the Philippines, I will definitely embrace their lifestyle because I want to leave this lifestyle of the United States and the drama of most people over here Behind I try to live drama free every day. It doesn’t always happen but that’s my. I’ll look on life. Don’t get me wrong. I’m very capable of handling any situation at any time and any place but I definitely prefer I didn’t have to elevate things to that point. Am I Filipino, I always ask her her opinion on things because I honestly want her opinion but she also knows don’t be upset if I don’t take her advice I always wait the pros and cons of every move. I make sometimes people definitely have a better idea so that’s why I always ask. You just never know.

Good talk James. I process relationships with people pretty fast. I'm there or I'm long gone. I recognise good people for long term acquaintance / relation to. Have have family members I have exiled because they do sh*tty things to family. I can't tolerate 2 faced, being fake or doing distrustful evil things like its ok. ( yeah example inc... )One of my sisters stole an inheritance from our uncle. She lived with him a short while and did a few things for him as his health declined. Once he passed she cleaned out his account and life savings and sold his house and destroyed his Will in his safe.

Someone you could relate to & have intelligent conversations I've tried to deal with the lady's there in thier 20s it's like baby sitting lol to me lmao 🤣. So I've moved my age upwards a good bit lol 😆. Take care my friend see ya on the next one Peace out .

Thanks again for sharing. Yes the culture is very different.
Perhaps you can do a video of your local cemetery come all saints.
I am sure the families, remembering their loved ones, would be happy to share about their deceased relatives.
Across the road from us, is a large cemetery ( where the wife bought a plot, big enough for 4 graves ( side by side) many years ago! Is now worth half a million pesos( we live in a small town in a rural part of Pangasinan!).
So we get many funeral processions every week.
Very noisy, sirens going, flashing lights, singer and keyboard mounted in back of a pick up, monster sound system.
But in its own way respectfull!!
Had my brother in law's wake at our place, after he had a few days at his home( 7 Kms away).
Two weeks only, he was out on our front terrace, surrounded by flowers, lights ect. Many visitors ( he was a local guy( born and brought up).
And, yes we had half the road, shut off, for a large canopy, covering the tables and chairs for the eating, drinking and all night card playing!
Being an early riser( 3 to 4 am). I was out there helping to clear all the garbage, every morning and happy to do it,!!!
Condolences to all, especially muk muk.
    Roger

Thats a real life topic. You are correct that it needs to be had. No matter where we may live, death will happen. My wife's family always refused to talk about arrangements for her grand mother's death. So when we moved here, I made them all sit down with my wife and discuss what they will do since she is Muslim. How much money they are saving each month for preparations and where they will have the body laid to rest. It was a tearful but productive conversation. My wife is the youngest sibling, but she was basically the one in charge of telling them what was expected of each household. I too will cover where they are short, but did not allow her to tell them that (just so they would actually do their part). My plan for me is to be cremated just as I had my mom cremated. No sense in taking up space for the living... And it's cheaper... lol

I had a neighbor a few doors down that passed away a few years after his girlfriend died. He was retired and I only met him a few times. He stayed to himself. Well he had passed several weeks before he was discovered. Sad that in America many folks end up alone and lonely for many reasons but what ever the reason alone is alone. We all need to keep in touch with our friends and family. We are social animals. Don’t let yourself isolate.
