    One of the most impressive videos I’ve seen on TH-cam. Thank you. I played this song as a radio DJ in 1978 and this song, along with “Name of the Game” made me a lifelong ABBA fan. ABBA is to the 70s what The Beatles were to the 60s. Masterful songwriting combined with the highest levels of musicianship.

    From an older ABBA fan to a newer one, I love seeing appreciation for their brilliance from a younger generation.

      Me too! You may love their music but you’ve no idea how deep it runs in our bloodstream - we were there from the start, when they were ‘uncool’ and not given the massive respect they deserved. Well, we’re thoroughly vindicated now! Thank you.

    From another old ABBA fan, thank you for demonstrating just how complex and technical these songs are. They were so considered light weight and throwaway in their 10 years together and its good to see younger fans have already made the same connection with this music that we made....around 45 years ago in the case of Knowing Me Knowing You. There will always be those that think ABBA were two song writters and 'hit makers' with two ok singers who wore flares and platform boots as all the tribute bands seem to do, but there are some among us who know these songs are works of art from four very talented people who just happened to be two couples for part of their journey together.

    • @scootermom1791
      @scootermom1791 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ABBA is anything but mediocre. They are legend! 😀
      I've been listening to them since the 70's when I was a little kid. I've been trying to pick out their harmonies on my own since that time, too.
      I never knew that people thought this group was anything but some of the most talented singers that ever blessed us with their music. I'm so sad to hear that! 😢
      Bjorn had (and still has) an incredible way of putting different sounds together, and IMO wasn't afraid to experiment with those sounds. For example, Chiquitita, I believe, is in a minor key, which isn't often used in rock music - or even country. And the song "I wonder," where Frida (I think?) is lamenting about whether or not she made the right career choice. And "Fernando," where two friends are reminiscing about their time serving their country in a war. I could go on and on.
      The variation of unique musical themes they produced, along with their harmonies, are in a class of their own. I only wish they never stopped making music all those years ago.

    Super! For so long in my life i was difficult to spot the different voice layers you hear in Abba songs. But i discovered some updated tools where you can filter the voices, voice layering and the instruments. It's awesome to discover the secret of that magic Abba sound. Great explenation video, thanks for uploading. More Abba please! ;-)

      Thank you for this. I've always suspected it was the buried lower harmonies that were the "magic touch" giving their harmonies that soaring valkyrie sound.

    • @jay_ooh
      @jay_ooh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yeah those are the ones that usually slip by people when listening, from the first time I ever heard this song I picked it out almost immediately, just knew that was a blend of high/low harmonies but never imagined it was a layering of this much proportion! Amazingly done!!!

    • @scootermom1791
      @scootermom1791 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always picked up their harmonies (or tried to) when I first heard their music in the 70's (yes, I'm that old). I was really young and didn't even know what "harmonies" were. I just knew I liked the sound of their different voices and wanted to try to sing them myself. I ended up singing a combo of Soprano/Alto/Tenor during most of their songs as a result. I even "sang" the instrumental parts when there was no singing going on. Lol I still do that to this day!

  • @augustjologs1
    @augustjologs1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Amazing deconstruction. No wonder it's so hard to sing this song and make it sound good with just two singers/voices. The recorded version had 7 singers/voices and we thought there only Agnetha and Frida (Ok, Bjorn too) singing.

    This was absolutely incredible! I always try singing the different parts to ABBA's songs but can't usually pick them out separately like this. There's probably vocal music scores that could be purchased, but I'm just singing for the fun of it. I've been mesmerized by ABBA's harmonies since I was seven. I tried picking them out at that age - even before I knew what Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone and Bass was. Lol 😂
    Do you have any more breakdowns of ABBA's harmonies like this?

The latest comment I heard was from Cher who was amazed how complexed harmonies the songs have and almost "tricky" even for a very competent singer as Cher. She was commenting the songs she sang in Mamma Mia - Here we go again; Fernando, in a press conference.
