Marlon Brando is the greatest actor because of his unmatched acting range. From 1950-60 he played a paraplegic in THE MEN, Stanley Kowalski in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, a Mexican revolutionary in VIVA ZAPATA, Mark Anthony, a Hell's Angel in THE WILD ONE. Terry Malloy in ON THE WATERFRONT, Napoleon in DESIREE, sang and danced in GUYS AND DOLLS, a Japanese man in TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON, a contrite nazi in YOUNG LIONS then directed ONE EYED JACKS.

In a way he's just a dumb mug, living almost like an animal, but Edie calls forth something in him, and it's sort of agonizing, but it's also a relief because he DOES have a fully-formed conscience and he is able to unburden to her (I love the scene where he finally tells her about Joey, and you can see, but not hear her reaction, then there is this incredible reaction shot of Father Barry, and we can read his mind: "By God, he finally did it!" That's your opinion. She is lovely. Had she been some sex bomb like Taylor or Monroe. This wouldnt have worked. Try to get over your obsession with looks for 5 minutes and understand that.

I like Marlon Brando but I don't like this film. I prefer a street car named desire and brando looks good in that film.

Streetcar named Desire had superior story and acting. And Marlon was an unbelievable sharpened veteran on the Broadway version. Almost any movie ieven with Brando in it will pale in comparison to Streetcar named Desire.
